SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of die forgings 1.000 to 12.000 inches inclusive (25 to 305 mm) in nominal thickness at the time of heat treatment and of forging stock (see 8.4). 1.2 Application These fo
7、rgings have been used typically for machined structural parts subject to warpage during machining and requiring high strength and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, but usage is not limited to such application. 2. Material shall be free of conditions tha

29、andard) (22.0 MS/m). 3.3.1.2.2 Forgings not conforming to 3.3.1.2.1 may be given additional overaging and retested to determine conformance to 3.3.1.1 and 3.3.1.2.1 3.3.1.3 Stress-Corrosion Resistance Specimens, not less than 0.750 inch (19.05 mm) in thickness cut from forgings tested in accordance
30、with ASTM G47, shall show no evidence of stress-corrosion cracking when stressed in the short-transverse direction at 35.0 ksi (241 MPa). 3.3.1.4 Fracture Toughness When specified, plane strain fracture toughness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E399 and ASTM B645 for forgings 1.000 to 8.000
31、inches (25 to 203 mm) inclusive in nominal thickness. A valid KIc meeting the requirements of ASTM E399 or a KQ “useable for lot release” in accordance with ASTM B645 shall meet or exceed the values specified in Table 5. 34、oduct, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from conditions detrimental to usage of the product. 3.4.1 When specified, each die forging shall be subjected to ultrasonic inspection in accordance with ASTM B594 and shall meet C
35、lass B acceptance criteria. 3.4.2 When specified, each die forging shall be subjected to fluorescent penetrant inspection in accordance with ASTM E1417. Forgings shall be free from surface defects such as seams, laps, bursts, and quench cracks. 3.4.3 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which
36、 contain end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow. 3.5 Tolerances Forging stock shall conform to all applicable requirements of ANSI H35.2 or ANSI H35.2M. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of
37、forgings shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements 4.2 Classification o
38、f Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), tensile properties (3.3.1.1), electrical conductivity (3.3.1.2.1), tolerances (3.5), and when specified, ultrasonic inspection (3.4.1), fracture toughness (3.3.1.4) and fluorescent penetrant inspection (3.4.2) are acceptance tests and, except for com
39、position, shall be performed on each lot. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Stress corrosion cracking (3.3.1.3), is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2355 4.
40、3.1 Tensile specimens machined from forgings shall be excised from the area specified on the engineering drawing. 4.4 Reports The producer of the forging shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the product conforms to the composition, tensile properties, electrical conductivity, toler
41、ances and when specified, ultrasonic inspection, fluorescent penetrant inspection, fracture toughness and showing the numerical results of tests on each inspection lot to determine conformance to the other acceptance test requirements and stating that the final product conforms to the other technica
42、l requirements. This report shall include the forging producer, purchase order number, inspection lot number, AMS4403A and the section identification number. 43、o that effect. 4.4.2 When material produced to this specification, is beyond the sizes allowed in the scope or tables or other exceptions are taken to the technical requirements listed in Section 3 (see 5.1.1), the report shall contain a statement “This material is certified as AMS4403A(EXC) because
44、 of the following exceptions.” and the specific exceptions shall be listed. 4.4.3 The producer of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the chemical composition of the stock conforms to specified requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspec
45、tion lot number, AMS4403A, size, and quantity. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be as follows: 5.1.1 Forgings In accordance with AMS2808. 5.1.2 Forging Stock As agreed upon by purchaser and producer. 5.1.3 When technical exceptions are taken (see 4.4.2), the material shall be mar
46、ked with AMS4403(EXC). 5.2 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B660 and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGM
47、ENT A producer shall mention this specification number in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7.
