SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of sheet in nominal thicknesses 0.01

6、6 through 0.1874 inch (0.41 through 4.760 mm).1.2 ApplicationThis sheet has been used typically for parts requiring high strength, toughness, and fatigue strength up to 750 F (399 C), but usage is not limited to such applications. The product can be superplastically formed above 1500 F (816 C) and i

7、t can be aged after air cooling from the solution treatment or super-plastic forming temperature to increase the strength.1.2.1 Certain processing procedures and service conditions may cause this sheet to become subject to stress-corrosion cracking; ARP982 recommends practices to minimize such condi

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 CompositionShall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1; carbon shall be determined in accordance with ASTM E 1941, hydrogen in accordance with ASTM E 1447, oxygen and nitrogen in accordance with ASTM E 1409, and other elements in accordance with ASTM E 237

The first melt shall be made by vacuum consumable electrode, nonconsumable electrode, electron beam cold hearth, or plasma arc cold hearth

17、 melting practice. The subsequent melt or melts shall be made under vacuum using vacuum arc remelting (VAR) practice. Alloy additions are not permitted in the final vacuum arc remelting (VAR) melt. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4898D Page 3 of 73.2.1 The atmosphere for nonconsumable electrode melting shall b

18、e vacuum or shall be argon and/or helium at an absolute pressure not higher than 1000 mm of mercury.3.2.2 The electrode tip for nonconsumable electrode melting shall be water-cooled copper.3.3 ConditionHot rolled, annealed, ground, and pickled. Surface appearance shall be comparable to a commercial

19、corrosion-resistant steel No. 2D finish (See 8.4).3.3.1 AnnealingHeat to a temperature within the range 1300 to 1650 F (704 to 899 C), hold at the selected temperature within 25 F (14 C) for a time commensurate with product thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and cool to room tem

20、perature at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster. Pyrometry shall be in accordance with AMS2750.3.4 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements, determined in accordance with AMS2368, except tensile testing shall be determined in accordance with 3.4.1.1 and bending shall

25、duct 0.1874 inch (4.76 mm) and under in nominal thickness, shall have a test sample prepared nominally 0.750 inch (19.06 mm) in width, with its axis of bending parallel to the direction of rolling. The sample shall be bend tested in conformance with the guided bend test defined in ASTM E 290 through

26、 an angle of 105 degrees. The test fixture supports shall have a contact radius 0.010 minimum, and the plunger shall have a radius equal to the bend factor shown in Table 3 times the nominal thickness. Examination of the bent sample shall not show evidence of cracking when examined at 15 to 25 X mag

31、emperature within the range 1600 to 1700 F (871 to 927 C), holding at the selected temperature within 25 F (14 C) for 15 to 60 minutes, cooling to room temperature at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster, followed by aging within the range of 900 to 1000 F (482 to 538 C), holding at the select

34、 purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from “oil canning” (See 8.6.1) ofdepth in excess of one-half of the flatness tolerances, ripples, foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the sheet.3.6 TolerancesShall conform to all applicable requiremen

35、ts of AMS2242 except the variation in flatness, unless otherwise specified, shall not exceed one-half of the standard flatness tolerance.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of sheet shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the per

36、formance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), surface appearance (3.3), tensile properti

37、es as annealed (3.4.1.1), bending (3.4.1.2), average grain size (3.4.1.3), microstructure (3.4.1.4), and tolerances (3.6) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsSurface contamination (3.4.1.5) and tensile properties after solution heat treat

38、ment and aging (3.4.2) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by the purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingIn accordance with AMS2368 except for the following:4.3.1 For Acceptance Tests4.3.1.1 Tensile TestsSpecimens from s

39、heet 9 inches (228 mm) and over in width shall be taken with the axis of the specimens both perpendicular and parallel to the direction of rolling.4.3.2 For Periodic TestsAs selected by the vendor, unless otherwise specified.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4898D Page 6 of 74.4 Reports4.4.1 The producer shall f

40、urnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity and country where the metal was melted (i.e., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the results of tests for composition of each heat and for the hydrogen content, tensile properties as annealed,

41、 bending, average grain size, and, when specified, tensile properties after solution and aging heat treatment for each lot, and stating that the sheet conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS4898D, specific annealing

42、 treatment used, product form, size, and quantity.4.4.2 When the product size is thinner than the sizes covered by 1.1, the report shall contain a statement to that effect.4.5 Resampling and RetestingIn accordance with AMS2368.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 IdentificationIn accordance with AMS2809.5

43、.2 PackagingSheet shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the sheet to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall includ

44、e this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7.
