SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a corrosion and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form o
3、f bars, wire, forgings, flash welded rings, and stock for forging, flash welded rings, or heading. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for parts, such as bolts and turbine blades, requiring high strength up to 1500 F (816 C) and oxidation resistance up to 1750 F (954 C), but usag
4、e is not limited to such applications. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E354, by spectrochemical methods, or by other an
15、alytical methods acceptable to purchaser. 17、Page 3 of 7 3.2 Melting Practice Alloy shall be multiple melted using consumable electrode practice in the remelt cycle or shall be multiple vacuum melted. If consumable electrode remelting is not performed in vacuum, electrodes which have been produced by vacuum induction melting shall be used for
18、remelting. 3.3 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition: 3.3.1 Bars Hot finished, solution heat treated and descaled except round bars shall be ground or turned. 3.3.1.1 Bars shall not be cut from plate (Also see 4.4.1). 3.3.2 Wire Solution heat treated and cold finished. 3
19、.3.3 Forgings and Flash Welded Rings Solution heat treated and descaled. 3.3.3.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on purchasers part drawing. When supplied, rings shall be manufactured in accordance with AMS7490. 3.3.4 Stock for Forging or Flash Welded Rings As
20、ordered by the forging or flash welded ring manufacturer. 3.3.5 Stock for Heading Type 1 - Bar - Solution heat-treated, cold reduced and centerless ground. Type 2 - Bar - Solution heat treated and centerless ground. Wire - Solution heat treated and cold finished. 3.3.5.1 Unless a specific type is or
21、dered, type 1 shall be supplied for bar product. 3.4 Heat Treatment Shall be as follows; pyrometry shall be in accordance with AMS2750. 3.4.1 Bars, Wire, Forgings, and Flash Welded Rings Shall be solution heat treated by heating to 1975 F 25 (1079 C 14), holding at heat for 4 hours 0.5, and cooling
22、at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5708L Page 4 of 7 3.4.2 Stock for Heading Shall be solution heat treated by heating within the range 1900 to 1975 F (1038 to 1079 C), holding at the selected temperature within 25 F (14 C) for 1 to 4 hours, and cooling at a rate equ
23、ivalent to an air cool or faster. 3.5 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements: 3.5.1 Bars, Wire, Forgings, and Flash Welded Rings 3.5.1.1 As Solution Heat Treated 3.5.1.1.1 Hardness (Bars 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) and Above) Shall be not higher than 302 HB, or equivalent (See 8
24、.2), determined in accordance with ASTM E10. 3.5.1.1.1.1 In lieu of 3.5.1.1.1, bars less than 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) shall have a tensile strength not higher than 145 ksi (1000 MPa). 3.5.1.1.2 Tensile (Wire) Shall have a tensile strength not higher than 145 ksi (1000 MPa). 3.5.1.1.3 Average grain size
25、 of heading stock shall be ASTM No. 3 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E112. 3.5.1.2 After Stabilization and Precipitation Heat Treatments The product shall conform to the following requirements after being stabilization heat treated by heating to 1550 F 15 (843 C 8) holding at heat for
26、4 hours 0.25, except that blade forgings shall be held at heat for 24 hours 1; cooled in air; precipitation heat treated by heating to 1400 F 15 (760 C 8), holding at heat for 16 hours 1, and cooling in air. 3.5.1.2.1 Hardness Shall be 32 to 42 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.2), determined in accordance
27、with ASTM E18. 3.5.1.2.2 Stress-Rupture Properties at 1500 F (816 C) A tensile specimen, maintained at 1500 F 3 (816 C 2) while a load sufficient to produce an initial axial stress of 47.5 ksi (328 MPa) or higher is applied continuously, shall not rupture in less than 23 hours. The test shall be con
28、tinued to rupture without change of load. Elongation after rupture, measured at room temperature, shall be not lower than 8% in 4D. Test shall be in accordance with ASTM E139. 3.5.1.2.2.1 The test of 3.5.1.2.2 may be conducted using incremental loading. In such case, the load required to produce an
29、initial axial stress of 47.5 ksi (328 MPa) or higher shall be used to rupture or for 23 hours, whichever occurs first. After the 23 hours and at intervals of 8 hours minimum, thereafter, the stress shall be increased in increments of 5.0 ksi (34.5 MPa). Time to rupture and elongation requirements sh
30、all be as specified in 3.5.1.2.2. 3.5.2 Forging Stock When a sample of stock is forged to a test coupon having a degree of mechanical working not greater than the forging and heat treated as in 3.4 and 3.5.1.2, specimens taken from the heat treated coupon shall conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.2
31、.1 and 3.5.1.2.2. If specimens taken from the stock after heat treatment as in 3.4 and 3.5.1.2 conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.2.1 and 3.5.1.2.2, the tests shall be accepted as equivalent to tests of a forged coupon. 32、eading Specimens taken from the stock after solution heat treatment as in 3.4 and stabilization and precipitation heat treatment as in 3.5.1.2 shall conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.2.1 and 3.5.1.2.2. 3.6 Quality The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, s
33、ound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.6.1 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain flash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow. 3.7 Tolerances Bars an
34、d wire shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2261. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to s
35、ample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests The following requirements are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable: 4.2.1.1 Compositi
36、on (3.1) of each heat. 4.2.1.2 Hardness (3.5.1.1.1) of each lot of bars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings as solution heat treated, tensile (3.5.1.1.2) of each lot of bars and wire (as appropriate) and average grain size if heading stock (3.5.1.1.3). 4.2.1.3 Hardness (3.5.1.2.1) and stress-rup
37、ture properties (3.5.1.2.2) of each lot of bars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings after stabilization and precipitation heat treatment. 4.2.1.4 Tolerances (3.7) of bars and wire. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Forging stock (3.5.2) and of stock for flash welded rings or heading (3.5.3) to demonstrate ab
38、ility to develop required properties, and of die forgings for grain flow (3.6.1) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be as follows: 4.3.1 Bars, Wire, Flash Welded Rings,
39、and Stock for Forging, Flash Welded Rings, or Heading In accordance with AMS2371. 4.3.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2374. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5708L Page 6 of 7 4.4 Reports The vendor of bars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings shall furnish with each shipment a report showing vendors name an
40、d country where the metal was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting) and the results of tests for composition of each heat and for hardness and tensile as appropriate (and average grain size if heading stock) as solution heat treated, and hardness and stress rup
41、ture properties after stabilization and precipitation heat treatment of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS5708L, size, and quantity. If forgings are supplied, the size and
42、 melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be included. 4.4.1 If the ship size/shape is cut from a larger cross section, report the nominal metallurgically worked size (Also see 3.3.1.1). 4.4.2 The vendor of stock for forging and flash welded rings shall furnish with each shipment a
43、report showing the vendors name and country where the metal was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting) and the results of tests for composition of each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS5708L, size, and quantity.
44、 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be as follows: 4.5.1 Bars, Wire, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Forging, Flash Welded Rings, or Heading In accordance with AMS2371. 4.5.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2374. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Sizes Except when exact lengths or multiples of exact
45、lengths are ordered, straight bars will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 24 feet (1.8 to 7.3 m) but not more than 25% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths of 6 to 9 feet (1.8 to 2.7 m) except that for bars weighing over 25 pounds per foot (37 kg/m), short lengths down to 2 feet (610 mm)
46、 may be supplied. 5.2 Identification Shall be as follows: 5.2.1 Bars In accordance with AMS2806. 5.2.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2808. 5.2.3 Flash Welded Rings and Stock for Forging, Flash Welded Rings, or Heading As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 47、3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6.
