SCOPE 1.1 Form This specific
6、ation covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for general use where deep drawing and forming are required, but usage is not limited to such applications. Product may be through-hardened to a minimum t
7、ensile strength of 180 ksi (1241 MPa) in sections 0.125 inch (3.18 mm) and under in nominal thickness and lower strength in heavier section thicknesses. 2. 15、k Analysis Composition variations shall meet the applicable requirements of AMS2259. 3.2 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition; hardness shall be not higher than 85 HRB, or equivalent (see 8.2), determined in accordance with ASTM A370. 3.2.1 Sheet and Strip Cold rolled o
16、r hot rolled, annealed to develop a uniform microstructure of spheroidized cementite in ferrite matrix, and descaled. 17、wed by the purchaser, cold rolled, annealed to develop a uniform microstructure of spheroidized cementite in ferrite matrix, and descaled. 3.3 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.3.1 Respo
18、nse to Heat Treatment Product 0.249 inch (6.32 mm) and under in nominal thickness and thicker product reduced to 0.249 inch 0.010 inch (6.32 mm 0.25 mm) in thickness shall have tensile strength not lower than 125 ksi (862 MPa) or hardness not lower than 26 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2), after being h
19、ardened by quenching in oil from 1600 F 10 F (871 C 6 C), and tempered for not less than 30 minutes at not lower than 900 F (482 C). 3.3.2 Average Grain Size Average grain size shall be determined by either 3.3.2.1 or 3.3.2.2. 3.3.2.1 Shall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM
20、E112. 3.3.2.2 The heat shall be considered to have fine austenitic grain size if one or more of the following are determined by heat analysis (see 8.5): 3.3.2.2.1 A total aluminum content of 0.020 to 0.050%. 3.3.2.2.2 An acid soluble aluminum content of 0.015 to 0.050%. 3.3.2.2.3 A vanadium content
21、of 0.02 to 0.08%. 3.3.2.2.4 A columbium content of 0.02 to 0.05%. 3.3.3 Decarburization Decarburization shall be evaluated by one of the methods of 3.3.3.1 or 3.3.3.2. 3.3.3.1 Metallographic Method A cross section taken perpendicular to the surface shall be prepared, etched, and visually examined me
22、tallographically at a magnification not to exceed 100X. The product shall not show a layer of complete (ferrite) or partial decarburization exceeding the limits of Table 2. 3.3.3.2 Hardness Traverse Method The total depth of decarburization shall be determined by a traverse method using microhardnes
23、s testing in accordance with ASTM E384, at a magnification not exceeding 100X, conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content. Tempering is generally not recommended, but if tempered, the tempering temperature shall be not
24、 higher than 300 F (149 C). Depth of decarburization is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is not further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburizati
25、on on the adjacent surface. Acceptance shall be as listed in Table 2. 27、ocal areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the above limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less. 3.3.3.4 In the case of dispute, the total depth of decarburization determined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern.
28、3.3.4 Bending Product 0.749 inch (19.02 mm) and under in nominal thickness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E290 using a sample prepared nominally 0.75 inch (19.0 mm) in width with its axis of bending parallel to the direction of rolling and shall withstand without cracking when bending at ro
29、om temperature through the angle and bend radius shown in Table 3. In case of dispute, the results of tests using the guided bend test of ASTM E290 shall govern. 31、4.1 Steel shall be aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2301. 3.5 Tolerances Shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2252. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for t
32、he performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 33、eptance Tests Composition (3.1), hardness (3.2), response to heat treatment (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2) decarburization (3.3.3), bending (3.3.4), frequency and severity (3.4.1) and tolerances (3.5) are classified as acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. 34、f grain refining elements (3.3.2.2) are not present, the ASTM E112 grain size test (3.3.2.1) shall be conducted on each lot. 4.2.1.2 Periodic Tests If grain refining elements (3.3.2.2) are present, the ASTM E112 grain size test (3.3.2.1) shall be conducted on a periodic basis and shall be performed
35、at a frequency selected by the producer (not to exceed one year) unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.2.2 Continuous Cast Product 4.2.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), hardness (3.2), response to heat treatment (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2) decarburization (3.3.3), be
36、nding (3.3.4), and tolerances (3.5) are classified as acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. If grain refining elements (3.3.2.2) are not present, the ASTM E112 grain size test (3.3.2.1) shall be conducted on each lot. 4.2.2.2 Periodic Tests If grain refining elem
37、ents (3.3.2.2) are present, the ASTM E112 grain size test (3.3.2.1) shall be conducted on a periodic basis and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer (not to exceed one year) unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. Frequency and severity (3.4.1) is a periodic test
38、and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 4.4 Reports The producer of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity, country
39、 where the steel was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of steel processed by multiple melting operations), results of tests for composition and hardness, response to heat treatment, average grain size, if measured, and bending of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other techni
40、cal requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6351K, product form, size, and quantity. If the grain size requirement of 3.3.2.2 is met by the aluminum, vanadium and/or columbium content, the aluminum, vanadium and/or columbium content shall be report
41、ed and a statement that the chemistry satisfies the grain size requirement shall be included. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 42、eatment Product shall be protected from corrosion prior to shipment. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ens
43、ure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7.
