SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a premium-aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. 1.2 Application These products have been typically used for parts that may be welded during fabrication and require through-h
7、ardening to high strength levels, for use up to 600 F (316 C), but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conf

15、 vacuum process in the remelt cycle. 3.3 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition; hardness tests shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM A370. 16、ht or atmosphere annealed, and descaled if necessary; or hot rolled, annealed or normalized at a temperature of 1725 F 25 F (941 C 14 C) and tempered, and descaled; having hardness not higher than 30 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). When spheroidize anneal is specified, hardness shall be not higher tha
17、n 100 HRB, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.3.2 Plate Hot rolled, annealed or normalized at a temperature of 1725 F 25 F (941 C 14 C) and tempered, and descaled having hardness not higher than 30 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). When spheroidize anneal is specified, hardness shall be not higher than 100 HRB,
18、 or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.4 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370. 3.4.1 Macrostructure Visual examination of transverse sections as in 4.3.1, etched in accordance with ASTM A604 in hot hydro
19、chloric acid (1:1) at 160 to 180 F (71 to 82 C) for sufficient time to develop a well-defined macrostructure, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions, and other imperfections shall be no worse than the following macrographs of ASTM A604. Table 2 - Macrostructure limits Class

21、ographic Method A cross section taken perpendicular to the surface shall be prepared, etched, and visually examined metallographically at a magnification not to exceed 100X. The product shall not show a layer of complete (ferrite) or partial decarburization exceeding the limits of Table 3. 3.4.3.2 H
22、ardness Traverse Method The total depth of decarburization shall be determined by a traverse method using microindentation hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E384, at a magnification not exceeding 100X, conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent
23、changes in surface carbon content. Depth of decarburization is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is not further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarb
24、urization on the adjacent surface. Acceptance shall be as listed in Table 3. 3.4.3.3 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the above limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width i
25、s 0.065 inches (1.65 mm) or less. 28、selected temperature for a time commensurate with section thickness, but not less than 20 minutes, and quenching in oil, stress relieved by heating to 400 F 10 F (204 C 6 C), holding at heat for 60 minutes 5 minutes, and cooling in air, and tempered by heating to not lower than 1000 F (538 C), holdi

32、s are met. 3.5 Quality 3.5.1 Steel shall be premium-aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2300. 3.5.2 The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.6 Tolerances Shall
33、conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2252. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and
34、 to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests Tests to determine conformance to all technical requirements of this specification are classified as acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat o
35、r lot as applicable. 4.3 Sampling Shall be in accordance with AMS2370 and the following; a heat shall be the consumable electrode remelted ingots produced from steel originally melted as a single furnace charge. 4.3.1 Samples for macrostructure rating (3.3.1) shall be full cross-sectional specimens
36、obtained from the finished billet, slab, or suitable rerolled product representing the top and bottom of at least the first, middle, and last usable ingot of each heat. 4.4 Reports The producer of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing producer identity, country where the meta
37、l was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, average grain size, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating each heat and for tensile properties and hardness of each lot after heat treatment and st
38、ating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS6439E, product form, size, and quantity. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be
39、 in accordance with AMS2370. 40、gulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Prod
41、uct not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8.
