SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an age hardenable nitriding grade of aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 CompositionShall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E 350, by spectrochemical m

Bars ordered cold finished may have hardness as high as 255 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3).3.2.1.3 Bars shall not be cut from plate.3.2.2 ForgingsAs ordered.3.2.3 Mechanical TubingCold finished, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not h

19、le testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A 370:3.3.1 MacrostructureVisual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, tube rounds (not hollows) or forging stock, etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 381, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity,

30、 shall be measured by the metallographic method, by the HR30N scale hardness testing method, or by a traverse method using microhardness testing in accordance with ASTM E 384. The hardness method(s) shall be conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent c

31、hanges in surface carbon content. Depth of decarburization, when measured by a hardness method, is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface below which there is no further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent

32、 surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the adjacent surface. In case of dispute, the depth of decarburization determined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern.3.3.3.5.1 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided th

33、e decarburization of such areas does not exceed the limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less.3.3.4 Response to Heat Treatment 3.3.4.1 Hardness After Hardening and Tempering of Each LotSpecimens having full sections, except that bars over 3 inches (76 mm)

34、 in nominal diameter or distance between parallel sides may be reduced to 3 inches (76 mm) in nominal diameter, shall have hardness not lower than 285 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3) after normalizing at 1700 to 1750 F ( to C), air cool, hardening at 1650 F ( C), oil quench, and tempering at not lower t

35、han 1100 F (593 C). For purpose of the test of 3.3.4.2, the tempering temperature shall be adjusted above 1100 F (593 C) to produce a hardness not higher than 302 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3).3.3.4.2 After Simulated Nitriding of Each HeatTensile specimens conforming to ASTM A 370, prepared from the s

36、pecimens used for determining hardness after hardening and tempering shall meet the requirements shown in Table 5 and 3.3.4.2.1 after being heated to 975 F 10 (524 C 6), held at heat for 20 hours 0.5, and cooled in air. Sampling for this requirement and 3.3.4.2.1 shall be at least one per heat. TABL

38、as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2301.3.4.2 Bars and mechanical tubing ordered hot rolled or cold drawn, ground

39、, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard stock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the machined, ground, turned, or polished surface.3.4.3 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain flash-line end grain, sh

40、all follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow.3.5 Tolerances3.5.1 BarsIn accordance with AMS2251.3.5.2 Mechanical TubingIn accordance with AMS2253.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all s

41、amples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComp

42、osition (3.1), condition (3.2), macrostructure (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2), decarburization (3.3.3), response to heat treatment (3.3.4), frequency-severity cleanliness rating (3.4.1), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Per

43、iodic TestsGrain flow of die forgings (3.4.3) is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and Testing4.3.1 Bars, Tubing, and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2370.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with

44、 AMS2372.SAE AMS6475K Page 7 of 84.4 Reports4.4.1 The vendor bars, forgings and tubing shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, frequency-severity cleanliness rating, and tensile properties and hardness after simulated nitriding of each

45、heat and for average grain size, and hardness after hardening and tempering of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to all other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6475K, product form and size (and/or part number, if appli

46、cable), and quantity. If forgings are supplied, the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be included.4.4.2 If the ship size/shape is cut from a larger cross section, report the nominal metallurgically worked size (See 3.3.1).4.4.3 The vendor of forging stock shall furni

47、sh with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, frequency-severity cleanliness rating and tensile properties and hardness after simulated nitriding of each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS6475K, size and quantity
