、Fork Pocket Interface RATIONALE AS5389 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE Five-Year Review policy. FOREWORDIt is often desirable for containers and equipment to have built in fork pockets that can provide handling capability by both pallet lift trucks and forklift trucks. This AS is useful b
、ecause of the large number of different pallet lift truck designs. It should be noted that the dimensions given in this AS will not work with all pallet lift trucks currently available. Container and equipment designers can use this standard to help them design a product that pallet lift trucks can
、handle. Buyers of pallet lift trucks can use this standard to procure trucks that will work with the containers and equipment designed using this standard.1. SCOPE:This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) details the design of fork pockets on containers and equipment foruse with pallet lift trucks and forkl
、ift trucks.1.1 Purpose:The intent of this document is to standardize a design for built in fork pockets on containers and equipment that pallet lift trucks and forklift trucks can use.2. REFERENCES:There are no referenced publications specified herein.3. FORK POCKET DIMENSIONS:Figure 1 depicts a typ
、ical container with built in fork pockets and essential dimensions. A portion, orthe entire fork pocket bottom, must be open to allow the wheels of the pallet lift truck to extend downand make contact with the floor. The bottom of the fork pockets must be open a sufficient amount toallow placing con

Figures 2 and 3 are isometricviews of two equally acceptable different container designs (Figure 2 being the preferred method) withpartially open fork pocket bottoms and essential dimensions. Partially open fork pockets allow forsafer handling, as
