SCOPE 1.1 AS81969 covers the general requirements for installing and removal tools for use in installing and removing electrical contacts used in connectors and other electrical and electronic components (see section 6) 1.2 Classification. Installing and removal tools covered by this spec
7、ification shall be of the following types, classes, and compositions, as specified (see 3.1 and 6.2): TYPE I - Installing tool II - Removal tool III - Combination installing and removal tool. CLASS 1 - Front release of contacts. 2 - Rear release of contacts. 3 - Side release of contacts. COMPOSITION

15、nstalling also to freedom from defects, burrs, sharp edges, corners, and points. 3.5 Performance (see 4.9). Tools shall perform as specified. 3.5.1 Rotation-removal tool (see 4.9.2.1). When tools are rotated in the connector, there shall be no cuts or tears on the grommet sealing member, scratching
16、of the contact surface exposing the base metal, and there shall be no evidence of breakage, cracking, chipping or any other damage to the tool that would impair the service function of the tool. 3.5.2 Thrust (see 4.9.2.2). When tools are inserted in the connector, there shall be no cuts or tears on
17、the grommet sealing member, scratching of the surface exposing the base metal, and there shall be no evidence of breakage, cracking, chipping or any other damage to the tool that would impair the service function of the tool. 3.5.3 Impact Strength- Tool with plastic probe (See 4.9.4). The tool shall
18、 be subjected to an Impact Strength of 1.50, -0.00, +0.25 foot-pounds per inch. There shall be no evidence of breakage, cracking, chipping or any other damage to the tool that would impair the service function of the tool. A Resin properties datasheet that details the mechanical properties including
19、 hardness for the material may be provided in lieu of the test. 3.5.4 Hardness-tools with metal probes (See 4.9.5). The tool shall be subjected to the hardness at each end of the probe and be as specified in the detail specification sheet. 3.5.5 Salt spray (4.9.6). Only tools with composition A or C
20、 shall be subjected to Salt Spray. There shall be no evidence of extensive corrosion or corrosion that could effect the operation of the tool and marking shall be legible. 3.5.6 Durability (4.9.3). When the tool is inserted in the required connector for the specified cycles, there shall be no eviden
21、ce of breakage, cracking, chipping, or any other damage to the tool that would impair the service function of the tool. There shall be no overlap or collapse or misalignment of the tool tip and the marking shall be legible. 3.5.7 Plunger force-Tools with plunger tips only (See 4.9.7). When tool plun
22、ger is compressed, the operation force shall not exceed the value specified in detail specification. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all contract inspec
23、tion requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier may use any qualifying activity approved facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein. The Qualifying Activity has the right to perform any
24、of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Responsibility for Compliance. All items must meet all technical requirements of the product specification. The inspection set forth i
25、n this specification shall become a part of the suppliers overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the supplier of the responsibility of assuring that all products comply with all requirements of the contract. Sam
26、pling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective units nor does it commit the purchaser to acceptance of defective material. SAE INTERNATIONAL AS81969 Page 7 of 14 4.3 Test Equipment and Inspection Facilities. Test and measuring equipment and inspection facilities of suf
27、ficient accuracy, quality, and quantity to permit performance of the required inspection shall be established and maintained by the supplier. The establishment and maintenance of a calibration system to control the accuracy of the measuring and test equipment shall be in accordance with NCSL Z540-1
28、or equivalent standards approved by the qualifying activity. 4.4 Classification of Inspections. The inspections specified herein are classified as follows: a. Qualification Inspection (see 4.6) b. Retention of Qualification Inspection (see 4.6.4) c. Quality Conformance Inspection (see 4.7) 4.5 Inspe
29、ction Conditions. The conditions for the inspections are specified as applicable and all test data shall be compiled in accordance with SD-6. 4.6 Qualification Inspections (see 6.3). Initial qualification inspection shall be in accordance with Table 2 and 3. Tests shall be performed in sequence. A r
30、equest for qualification shall be made to the qualifying activity prior to initiating testing. Testing cannot begin until the supplier has received an authorization letter. The supplier is recommended to provide the qualifying activity a test plan based on the authorization letter to ensure the supp
31、lier and qualifying activity maintain communication and document changes as needed. The qualifying activity has the authority to modify the specification test requirements to resolve test failures/discrepancies and to wave testing to verify specific product manufacturing changes or qualifications by
32、 similarity. For each component tested, the supplier shall use the same materials, manufacturing procedures, and methods of inspection as would be used to provide the component to a purchaser. Any change by the supplier that does not agree with requirements used to provide qualification approval req
33、uires additional qualifying activity concurrence. A change in the product that does not comply with this specification shall result in qualification disapproval of that product and family products represented by that product. The qualifying activity shall perform the tests specified in Table 2 and s
34、upplier shall perform the tests specified in Table 3 in a laboratory of their choice. All test laboratories requires qualifying activity approval. 4.6.1 Sample size. Four tools of each size shall be subjected to qualification inspection to assure that all sizes of tools work in applicable qualified
35、connectors without damaging the connectors, contacts, or tools. The tools shall be divided evenly between Table 2 and Table 3. 4.6.2 Optional sample size. At the discretion of the qualifying activity, a modified sampling plan may be approved in lieu of sample sizes specified. Failure of a component
36、to conform to a requirement shall be cause for refusal to grant qualification approval for that group of components represented by the similarity sample.
