、J899 Revised DEC88-2-3. Discussion3.1 All seat dimensions and adjustments (if provided), are referenced to the SIP as determined by SAE J1163.3.2 Nominal values (see Note 1, of Table 1, for definition) are included wherever possible and their use willgenerally provide maximum ergonomic benefit.TABLE

、ADJUSTMENTS3.3 The nominal values are based on the body dimensions of SAE J833 and will accommodate operator sizes fromthe 5th percentile female through the 95th percentile male of that document. Dimensions or adjustments (oruse of), other than those in this standard may be used if they will provide

、 equivalent or greater ergonomicbenefit. Consideration may be given for specific controls or operator requirements (that is, smaller worldwidepopulation body dimensions, etc.).3.4 On work machines where a higher SIP is desirable, a reduced back and seat cushion angle should beconsidered.3.5 Armrests

、 the 5 Year Review of all practices.2. This recommended practice has been changed to a standard due to minimum requested changessince 1980.3. All dimensions per SAE objective are given in metric only.4. All references to SAE documents in the text or references reflect the latest version.5. Reference

、 to H point omitted in order to standardize on the use of SIP.6. Scope - identifies the machines affected by referencing SAE J1116.7. Removed unneeded SAE callouts and references (Ref. 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10) and properly identify theother SAE references.8. Eliminated dimension (A), SIP to heel rest and

、all references to it, because SAE J899 dimensionsare related to the SIP and not the heel rest or other parts of the machine.9. Broadened the designers opportunity to accommodate unique control systems and provide goodergonomic possibilities by increasing the maximum height of the armrest (K) to 160

、mm. Theexisting upper limit dimension, which favored more reclined or relaxed working positions restrictedthe designer of machines needing positive support for control operation or erect working position.Dreyfuss Humanscale 1/2/3 (page 21 and measurements of Male and Female - page 1518) wasused for

、the nominal dimension of 140 mm and Damon-Stoudt-McFarland, the Human Body inEquipment Design (pages 78, 80 and 92) for the upper and lower limit. These maximum andminimum limits assumed a 25 mm slump which is justified to avoid too high an armrest.10. Dimensional changes reflect a correlation betwe

、en Dreyfuss, Damon-Stoudt-McFarland and SAEJ833. It should be recognized that body data as in SAE J833 is for nude, erect sitting people andneeds to be modified. Dreyfuss and Damon-Stoudt-McFarland treat more directly to the real worlddimensions for the designers use. The data for womens shoulder he

、ight to seated surface in SAEJ833 does not compare to Damon-Stoudt-McFarland (although the male information was the same)and; therefore, the womens data was not used to develop the values.11. For the limits of armrest height adjustment, use of the maximum and minimum values of K areencouraged. Clari

、fication of where dimension (K) is to be measured has been included.12. Editorial changes include revising chart format to make reference to notes easier, rewording of note(6) and wording changes to convert the recommended practice to a standard.Relationship of SAE Standard to ISO StandardThis stand
