DYNAMIC TEST REQUIREMENTS Storage compartments shall be tested in accordance with test conditions and applicable procedures outlined in SAE J2917, Occupant Restraint and Equipment Mounting Integrity Frontal Impact Ambulance Patient Compartment, and

、/or SAE J2956, Occupant Restraint and Equipment Mounting Integrity Side Impact Ambulance Patient Compartment and/or SAE J3044, Occupant Restraint and Equipment Mounting Integrity Rear Impact Ambulance Patient Compartment. The Storage compartments will then be evaluated in accordance with sections 4

、and 8 of this document. 5. TEST CONDITIONS The following conditions apply: 5.1 Due to the large number of mounting locations possible for each interior storage compartment, these tests shall be conducted on a sled system and mounted appropriately to simulate the intended mounting surface as best as

、possible. The following four examples should be considered: 5.1.1 If the storage compartment is designed to be mounted on the side wall of an ambulance patient compartment, the appropriate transverse load would be generated using SAE J2956. Whereas, the appropriate longitudinal load would be generat

、ed using SAE J2917. See Figure 2, cabinets C and E. 5.1.2 If the storage compartment was intended to be mounted on the rear wall of an ambulance patient compartment, the appropriate transverse load would be generated using SAE J2917, while the appropriate longitudinal load would be generated using S

、AE J2956. See Figure 2, cabinet D. 5.1.3 If the storage compartment was intended to be mounted on the front wall of an ambulance patient compartment, the appropriate transverse load would be generated using SAE J3044, while the appropriate longitudinal load would be generated using SAE J2956. See Fi

SAE INTERNATIONAL J3058 NOV2016 Page 4 of 8 5.1.4 If the storage compartment was intended to be mounted on the side wall of an ambulance patient compartment with an exposed surface facing toward the rear, the appropriate transverse load would be generated using SAE J2956, while th

、e appropriate longitudinal load would be generated using SAE J3044. See Figure 2, cabinet B. NOTE: The longitudinal load test would be specifically important to a sliding door to test the ability of the door to stay in place during a crash. This also tests the ability of the storage compartments str

、ucture on sides other than that which contains the door or opening. Figure 2 - Typical ambulance layout. A & D are represented in Figures 3 and 4. B, C, & E are represented in Figure 5. The red line represents the location of the test analog(s) for storage compartments with a depth greater than 100

、mm (3.94 inch) 5.2 The manufacturer is responsible for specifying the design weight of the storage compartment. 5.3 This test is considered destructive, therefore deformation and fracture that does not result in the release of the analog device(s) is considered acceptable. If deformation occurs, it

、is recommended a new storage compartment be used for subsequent test attitudes (transverse or longitudinal loads). 6. DYNAMIC TEST PROCEDURES Each storage compartment wall or opening shall be capable of meeting the requirements of Section 4. The interior storage compartment manufacturer is responsib

、le for determining the recommended orientation(s) of the storage compartment relative to the patient compartment of the ambulance. Interior storage compartments, including hinged and sliding doors and latch mechanisms, shall pass in all possible orientations. In lieu of testing all orientations, the

、 worst case orientation shall be tested while other orientations can be shown sufficient by comparative analysis. SAE INTERNATIONAL J3058 NOV2016 Page 5 of 8 6.1 Install the storage compartment to the sled device utilizing all mounting hardware per the manufacturers directions in order to represent

、the installation of the storage compartment in an ambulance patient compartment. Preservation of the storage compartment door design intent and attachment points shall be maintained in order to replicate performance when in an ambulance. 6.2 A riser shelf shall be installed as described in Figures 3

、-5. The horizontal surface of riser shelf shall have a static dry coefficient of friction of 0.4 or less. Possible materials may include thin sheets of acetal plastic, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) or a similar low friction material. 6.3 Test analog(s) shall be used as ballast f

、or the weight capacity in each storage compartment. 6.4 The test analog shall be positioned vertically at 30% of the total height of the storage compartment interior on the riser shelf. Reference Figures 3-5. Figure 3: - Analog distribution in single shelf cabinet/storage compartment. (Note*: For ca

、binets less than 200 mm (7.87 inch) deep, mass shall be centered between door and rear surface.) 6.4.1 The longer of the two sides on the horizontal plane of the storage compartment shall be used to determine the lateral distribution of test analogs as described in Table 1 and illustrated in Figure

、5. 6.4.2 For storage compartments with a depth of 200 mm (7.87 inch) or greater, place a line on the riser shelf 100 mm (3.94 inch) from the longest side of the horizontal plane parallel to the interior face of the storage compartment. 6.4.3 For storage compartments with a depth of less than 200 mm

、(7.87 inch), draw a line through the center of the storage compartment and parallel to the longest side on the horizontal plane. 6.4.4 For storage compartments with hinged cabinet lids, only the interior vertical faces will be tested in accordance with the requirements described in 6.4.1 6.4.3. 6.5

、Place the analog(s) or ballast immediately behind the line described in 6.4 SAE INTERNATIONAL J3058 NOV2016 Page 6 of 8 Figure 4 - Analog distribution in multiple shelved cabinet/storage compartment.
