SCOPE: The materials defined by this U.S. CAR / S.A.E Recommended Practice are low VOC water based coatings for automotive tooling and general maintenance. 1.1 Purpose: The purpose of this document is to: 1.1.1 Standardize the paints and primers used for tooling, and general facil

5、ity maintenance to low VOC water based coatings. 1.1.2 Provide a method for specifying these materials by the use of the Munsell color numbering system. 2. TESTING RE

9、QUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONING: 3.1 Test Requirements: Test Specimens shall be prepared per paragraph 5 and paragraph 3.3 The following requirements must be met after 21 days cure. 3.1.1 ASTM B117 Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (250 Hr.) ASTM D1654 Procedure A Rating 8-9. 3.1.2 ASTM D3363 P

10、encil Hardness (HB) 3.1.3 ASTM D522 Method A Mandrel Bend Test of Attached Organic Coatings (3.2 mm with no cracking) 3.1.4 ASTM D3359 Standard Test Method for Measuring Adhesion by Tape Test, Rating (5A) 3.1.5 ASTM 2794 Impact Resistance (Direct 28 in.-lb / .32 kg m) using Indenter of 12.7 mm. 3.1.

11、6 Substrate for Testing CRS Q-panel (S-412) 3.2 Statistical Data: Material suppliers must conform to Quality System Requirements, QS-9000. A control plan for ongoing production verification is required. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data and assure consistent

12、processing of the materials. SAE/USCAR-9 December 1998 CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOTIVE TOOLING, MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT LOW VOC WATERBORNE PAINT SYSTEMS - 3 - 3.3 Curing Conditions: All test panels shall be cured in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2C and 50 +/- 5% relative humidity. 4. INITIA

13、L CHARACTERIZATION OF AUTOMOTIVE MATERIALS: The following test results shall be submitted for review. 4.1 Infrared Spectrophotometry and/or Thermal Analysis: Infrared and/or thermal analysis spectra shall constitute the reference standard for the material supplied to a specification based on this cl

14、assification system and shall be available on request. 4.2 Composition (Volatile Organic Compounds) - ASTM D3960 or EPA Method 24: All coatings used to meet this recommended practice must be water based or reducible and have an applied VOC of under 2.8 pounds per gallon (336 grams per liter) minus w

15、ater, or lower to meet local and regulatory requirements. 5. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION / PAINT CHARACTERISTIC: 5.1 Substrate Condition or Part Cleanliness: The surface to be coated must be cleaned to minimum SSPC SP2 and or SP12. 5.2 Primer: When necessary to meet requirements specified in paragraph 3 a

16、 primer may be used. This primer must also be a low VOC water reducible product. 5.3 Dry to Handle: Check manufacturers product data sheet. 5.4 Recoat: Check manufacturers product data sheet. 5.5 Curing Time: The material shall be completely cured after a maximum of 21 days. PROPERTIES: 6.1 Color: Each color shall match the corresponding Munsell color standard (ASTM D1535) within one (1) DS (Delta E) co

19、pecified by the purchasing organization. 6.2 Film Thickness: Check manufactures product data sheet or Purchaser requirements. 6.3 Gloss: ASTM D523 80 +/- 5 gloss units for enamel. 5 units of gloss maximum for flat.
