Processing of Material from Commercial Sources (Subclause 5.3) Heavy grid rolling- It is a moot point whether tlre material should he windrowed to the side aFter the second series of grid roller passes.

15、 Should the contractor attempt to compact the material in position, oversize material will be hidden by the broken down surface of Lhe layer and it is to prevent this that an additional windrowing may be necessary. The contractors rate covers four passes in terms uf Subclausc 5.3(h)(2) of SABS 1200

Where necessary. specify a further method of processing (by crushing) in a clause such as the following: PSME 1. CRUSIIING (Subclause 5.3) PSME 1.1 Method. Where ordered and hefore

Where the material is such that the oversize material can be screened out and is suitable for tire subbase, the oversize material shall be crushed and combined with the screened material. PSME 1.2 Measurement and payment for crusling. The ope

19、 proportion, as determined by the Engineer, will be measured under the process of screening under Subclause 8.3.5(a) of SAAS 1200 ME and the remainder under crushing above. No payment will he made under Suhclause 8.3.7(a) of SARS 1200 ME Ear the crushing of oversize material. . b) Crushing plant Uni

State whether a mi.nimum density other than 9; X of modified AASIITO maximum density in the case of subbase,

23、or other Lhan 93 X of modified AASHTO maximum density in the case of shoulders and wearing course, is required. Slaking of lime. Where lime has to be hauled a Long distance and the use of slaked or part.ally slaked lime could prove economical, include a clause such as: PSME 2 SCABILlZATION PSME 2.1

24、Partially slaked or unslaked lime (Subclause 5.5.4) a) When partially slaked or unslaked lime is used, the Contractor shall inform the Engineer of the manufacturers recommended technique for slaking the lime. b) Unless otherwise approved (see (c) below), the Contractor shall slake the lime (after it

25、 has been spread as specified in Subclause 5.5.3 of SARS 1200 ME) hy keeping it wet until conplete hydration has taken place. (ln the case of uwlaked lime this shall be for at least 36 h.) Slaking shall be completed and the time allowed to dry out before it is mixed with the naterial to be stabilize

26、d. (The line hall not be mixed with this material while the lime is still damp.) The lime shall then be mfxed in, the moisture content adjusted to optimum moisture content, and the layers compacted as specified in Subclause 5.5.4 of SARS 1200 ME. c) As an alternabive to the procedure give in, (b) ab

27、ove. after partial hydration of the lime has taken place and the lime is dry and loose, the Engineer may allow a preliminary mixing of the material to be stabilized with the lime, with the addilion of water, so that the remainder of the slaking period is combined with a preliminary moisture curing p

28、eriod of the material to be stabilized. The layer being stabilized shall be kept mist for 2 to 3 d as required by the Engineer. At the end of this period the material shall be thoroughly mixed and the moisture content adjusted to 1-2 X wet of opLLmum (mod. AASNTO). After a Further 12 h the moisture

29、content shall be adjusted to about l Z dry of optimum (mod. AASHTO) and the layer compacted as specified in Subclause 5.5.4 of SABS 1200 ME. d) The stabilizing agent shall be applied only to an area of such size that all processing. watering, compacting, and finishing can be completed within 48 h. e

30、) The Contractor shall carry out tests to prove that the lime has been properly slaked. The slaking oE the lime shall be deemed to have been completed if in not more than one test per lot or days work carried out in acnrdancewith Suhclause 4.1 of Section ME of Part 3 of the code, a rise in temperatu

31、re of more than 1 C is recorded. Actual stabilizer content where direcL supervision not pracllce (Subclause 7.3.2). Where it may not be practicable for the engineer to control the quantity of stabilizer placed on a road (see Subclause 5.5.3 of SABS 1200 ME) consider including a PS clause such as the

32、 following: PSME 2.2 Actual stabilizer content (Subclauses 5.5.3, 7.3.2 and 8.3.8) a) Notwithstandtng the requirements of Subclause 7.3.2 of SARS 1200 ME. the Engineer may order chemical analyfys to be made of the mixed but uncompacted layer by one of the appropriate methods given jn TMti 1 . h) Whe

33、re the results of at least 18 out of 20 chemical analyses on a selected section indicate a stabilizer content of 60 X or more of the specified content. the Contractor will be paid for the mass of stabihirer computed from the percentage ordered, and for the cost of the tests, and where the results in

34、dicate a stabilizer content of less than 60 X of the specified content. the Con- tractor shall take whatever steps are ordered by the Engineer and the Contractor shall meet the cost of the tests and of such further tests as are ordered. Stahilizatlon by means of bituminous emulsion. Where stahiliaat
