5、 OF STANDARDS SABS 0120 : Part 2 Section MM-1984 Ancillary roadworks SABS l200 MM : ANCILLARY ROADWORKS NOTE a) Number the PSMM clauses in Portion 2 of the project specification in the sequence in which the clauses to which they relate appear in SABS l200 MM. b) The clause number(a) given at the beg

6、inning or after the heading of a clause is/are, unless otherwise stated, the number(s) of the relevant clause(s) of SABS 1200 MM. 1. ESSENTIAL PROJECT SPECIFICATION CLAUSES 1.1 Set out suitable clauses in portion 2 of the project specification to provide essential information, as follows: a) (Subcla

7、uses 3.1.1 and 5.1.2.1) State the material to be used for guardrails and, if they are to be of steel, state whether plain carbon steel or weathering steel is required. In the case of plain carbon steel state whether a painted or a galvanized finish is required (see also 2.l(a) below). State also the

8、 following requirements: 1) When relevant, that double length guardrails are required; 2) the number of post bolt holes; 3) the overall length and thread length of post bolts; 4) when relevant, that splice bolts are to be supplied with recessed nuts; 5) whether straight or curved guardrails are requ

9、ired and, if curved, the radius and direction of curvature; 6) the type of end wings required; 7) when relevant, that reinforcing plates for post bolts are required; 8) when relevant, the type of finish on coated surfaces of carbon steel guardrails and end wings. b) (Subclause 3.1.2.1) State the typ

10、e of timber that is to be used for timber posts and spacer blocks. C) (Subclause 3.1.2.2) If steel guardrail posts are required, state type and size. (See also Sub- clause 1.3.3 of Section MM of Part 3 of the code.) d) (Subclause 3.2.2) State whether zinc coating of a structural steel article is req

11、uired. (See also Subclause 1.3.4 of Section MM of Part 3 of the code.) e) (Subclause 3.2.8.1) See Subclause 3.2.5 of Section H for more data on paints and painting. f) (Subclauses 3.3.2 and 5.3.4.3) Where road markings of materials other than paint are required and scheduled, set out the requirement

12、s and state the minimum skid resistance values under wet road condi- tions. g) (Subclause 5.2.1.6) State whether signboard frames and supporting structures are to be galvanized and, if so, whether painting is also required. ESSENTIAL DATA 2.1 The availability of certain essential data may affect the

13、 prices tendered. Except where such data have been given in the schedule or in the tender drawings, set out suitable clauses covering items such as the following in Portion 2 of the project specification: a) (Subclauses 3.2.1 and R.3.3) If required, give full details of the provision that is to be m

14、ade in supports to ensure safe breakaways in emergencies. (See also Subclauses 1.3.3 and 2.2 of Section MM of Part 3 of the code.) b) (Subclause 3.3.3) If required, state the type (non-reflecting or reflecting), shape, size, and colour of road studs. (See also Subclause 1.3.3 of Section MM of Part 3

15、 of the code.) C) (Subclause 5.1.2.1) Where applicable, set out details of the paint and colour scheme to be applied to guardrail elements (see 3.2.2 below). d) (Subclauses 5.2.1.2 and 5.2.2.5(c) Give details of the road sign faces, if not given on the drawings. e) (Subclause 5.2.1.6) Where so requi

16、red. state that galvanized steel frames and structures shall be painted and give details of the paint system to be used. f) (Subclause 5.2.2.4(d) (2) If structural steel paint is to be used for the finishing coat, state the colour required. (See also Subclause 1.3.3 of Section MM of Part 3 of the co

17、de.) g) (Subclause 8.3.21 If required, state details of retro-reflective background, symbols, characters/legend, and borders. h) (Subclause 8.4.1) Where a proprietary brand plastics road-marking material is to be used, set out the requirements. 3. ADDITIONAL CLAUSES 3.1 GENERAL. Where it is necessar

18、y to amplify or otherwise to vary the terms of SABS l200 MM to render them suitable for use in projects to be carried out in particular locations or under particular circumstances, include in Portion 2 of the project specification clauses dealing with matters other than those covered by Clauses 1 an

19、d 2 above. SABS 0120 : Part 2 Section MM-1984 Ancillary roadworks 3.2 NORMAL PROJECTS NWE: To meet requirements imposed by various norms of economic development, projects are classified as normal, prestige, subeconomic, and labour-based projects (see Clause 4 of Section 0 of Part 3 of the code) . 3.

20、2.1 Materials for Guardrails (Subclause 3.1.1). Consider specifying a weathering steel for guardrails instead of galvanized steel as it may be more economical. In such a case, except in regard t,o the materials used, the relevant requirements of SARS 1350) will still be applicable. A project specifi

21、cation clause containing such a requirement may he required for guarcrails in the Johanneshurg municipal area. 3.2.2 Painting of Guardrails (Subclause 5.1.2.1). Include a clause ouch as the following for contracts for guaxdrails in the Johannesburg municipal area: PSMM 1.1 Painting of Guardrails (Su

22、bclause 5.1.2.1). Guardrails shall be painted and finished with black enamel and reflectorized yellow road paint on the road side as shown in Drawing . . . . . . , and with white paint on the back. 3.2.3 Painting of Timber Elements (Subclause 5.1.2.2). Where the ancillary roadworks include existing

23、or new timber elements that are required to be painted for a particular reason, consider including a clause such as the following: PSMM 1.2 Painting of Timber Elements (Subclause 5.1.2.2). Timber posts and spacer blocks and timber elements shall be painted as set out below: a) 5.ce preparation. All

24、dirt, peeling or cracking paint, and other foreign matter shall be removed by wire brushing, scraping, approved wax-free flushable paint remover, or other approved means. All checks, shakes, knot-holes, and knot cavities shall be puttied up flush and, when relevant, the surface allowed to dry before

25、 painting is started. The moisture content of the timber shall be not more than 200 g/kg at the time of applying the first coat. h) Primeir. One coat of wood primer shall be applied. c) Finishing. Two coats of high gloss enamel of . . . . colour (or of the colour ordered) shall be applied. 3.2.4 Pla

26、stics Coatings on Concrete. Where it is required that concrete be coated with a plastics material, set out the requirement in a clause such as the following: PSMM 1.3 Concrete in . to be coated with plastics (Subclause 5.2.2.6). The finishing coats on the . shall consist of an approved textured plastics film, applied by means of a sponge roll.er or in the manner recommended by the manufacturer and approved by the Engineer. PRESTIGE AND SUBECONOMIC PROJECTS. Not applicable to this section. 1) Guardrails for roads; (W-section) .
