SABS 1350) covers the supply for normal situations, of suitable quantities of bolts, nuts, washers, and other materials to fix the rails to the posts and to assemble a continuous guardrail system. Where addition

NO preservative treatment need be specified because SABS 457) gives details of the preservative treat- ment that all posts and spacer blocks must be given in order to bear the SABS mark (see also
9、 1.3.6 below). Timber Posts to SABS 47). Subclause 3.1.2.1 of SABS 1200 MM requires posts to have a top diameter of between 145 mm and 175 mm so as to ensure that standard bolts and nuts can be used for attaching guardrails. Such a requirement assists the contractor to a small extent during construc

Where appropriate (e.g. to ensure that the requirements for details of such items as steel guardrail posts, breakaways, road stu
11、ds, retro-reflective backgrounds, etc., are clear), include suitable drawings in the tender/contract document. In the case of large signs for freeways, give details on drawings. Schedulinq (Subclauses 3.2.1 and 3.2.2). Where a particular breakaway detail or surface treatment is required, ensure that
12、 an item is provided in the schedule to cover the cost of such breakaway or surface treatment. Retro-reflective Material (Subclause 3.2.9). The requirements given in Table 1 and Subclause 3.2.9(b) of SABS l200 MM are requirements for Type I1 sheet reflective materials (encapsulated lens sheeting) gi

Depending on whether poles are to be of pine or eucalyptus, state the number of the applicable SABS standard specification. SABS 73) covers pin
14、e, SABS 754) covers eucalyptus, and both cover preservative treatment. Fixing Details for Reflector Plates (Subclause 5.1.1.1). Ensure that details for the fixing of reflector plates are given on the drawings. 1.3.8 Road Signs (Subclause 5.2.1.2). Do not specify particle board for road signs that ar

Where the quantity of structural steelwork or the exposure conditions or local requirements necessitate a different form or degree of corrosion protection, include in the contract document a specification that covers co

BREAKAWAYS IN ROAD SIGN SUPPORTS (Subclauses 3.2.1, 5.2.1.1, and 8.3.3). Depending on the details of the
17、construction, provision of breakaway devices for road sign supports may be relatively expensive. Consider the risk of collision with each support, and so design the breakaway devices as to prevent injury to persons and to ensure the minimum of damage to signs and vehicles in the event of such a coll
