Only containers or sets of containers containing base component and curing agent from the same batch shall be packed together in a bulk container. 4.2 Marking Each set of

、 containers shall be legibly and durably marked with the following information: a) the manufacturers name and the brand name of the product; b) when and as relevant, the words “Base component for polyurethane sealing compound“ or “Curing agent for polyurethane sealing compound“; c) the type; d) the

、colour; e) the mixing instructions; f) the application instructions, including instructions for the application of the primers recommended for use on specific surfaces; g) the batch identification(s); h) the expiry date (i.e. the date before which the materials must be used); i) the storage temperat

、ure range; and j) the date of manufacture (unless indicated by the batch identification(s). 5 Inspection and methods of test 5.1 Inspection Inspect the containers in the consignment for compliance with the requirements of 4.1 and 4.2. 5.2 Preparation of test samples and test substrates 5.2.1 Test sa

、mples Unless otherwise stated in the method, condition (before each test) the closed containers of base component and curing agent under standard test conditions for 16 h to 24 h. Then, using the proportions stipulated by the manufacturer, a square-tipped spatula, a cylindrical vessel of appropriate

、 size and a mixing time of 10 min, prepare by hand not more than 500 g (at any one time) of the sealing compound. This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 1077:2009 Edition 1.2 7 5.2.2 Test substrates a) When appropriate, before the

、 application of primer or sealant, clean substrate materials in accordance with the procedure given in the relevant test method in SANS 110. b) Subject, when relevant, to the procedure given for the preparation of test specimens, when so specified by the manufacturer of the sealing compound, prime s

、ubstrate materials with the recommended primer in the manner specified. NOTE Include in test reports the use of such primers and the manufacturers designation of the primers. 5.3 Application (work) life 5.3.1 Equipment a) Caulking gun. An air-powered caulking gun that has a tapered nozzle with an or

、ifice of internal diameter 6,35 mm 0,5 mm and a nozzle of length 75 mm 0,5 mm. b) Compressed-air supply. A supply of clean dry air at a constant pressure of 550 kPa. c) A balance, sensitive to 0,5 g. d) Filter paper. e) A stop-watch with second hand. 5.3.2 Procedure a) Condition the caulking gun und

、er standard test conditions (see 2.1) for at least 4 h. Prepare (see 5.2.1) approximately 400 g of the sealing compound and place it in the gun, taking care to avoid entrapment of air. Connect the gun to the compressed-air supply and, by compressing the compound, eliminate possible air pockets by ex

、pelling about 30 g of the compound from the gun. b) Then, just less than 90 min after the base component and curing agent first came into contact during mixing, carry out the test (under standard test conditions) by extruding and discarding at least 25 mm of the compound, and then extruding (and sta

、rting the stop-watch simultaneously) 50 g of the compound onto filter paper placed on the pan of the balance. Record, to the nearest second, the extrusion period by stopping the stop-watch and extrusion simultaneously, and consider the work life of the compound to be over if this period exceeds 60 s

、. c) If the extrusion period did not exceed 60 s, repeat the extrusion procedure given in (b) above four and a half hours later, and consider the compound to comply with the requirements of 3.5 if the extrusion period exceeds 60 s. 5.4 Storage stability Store the set of sample containers taken for t

、he storage stability test (see C.2.2) for 9 months from the date of manufacture under standard test conditions, and at the end of this period examine and test the sealing compound for compliance with the requirements of 3.4. 5.5 Application temperature range Condition adequate quantities of the base

、 component and curing agent at 5 C and at 35 C for at least 16 h. Prepare (see 5.2.1) and apply the sealing compound, first at 5 C, and then again at 35 C, using the method described in 5.3.2(a) and, immediately after mixing, carry out the extrusion procedure described in 5.3.2(b) to assess whether

、the material is suitable for application. This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 1077:2009 Edition 1.2 8 5.6 Colour Prepare (see 5.2.1) enough sealing compound and spread it evenly to form a film of thickness at least 1 mm over an

、 area of at least 70 mm 75 mm on a suitable steel panel. Allow the sealing compound to cure under standard test conditions for 7 d. At the end of this period, compare the colour of the sealing compound with the specified colour standard by viewing it and the standard placed adjacent to it, under conditions of diffused southern daylight or its equivalent. Ensure that the light falls vertically on the surfaces being compared and that the viewing is done at 45 from the normal. 5.7 Tack-free time Use the relevant method described in SANS 110. 5.8 Rheological
