9、lts and nuts 1 Scope This standard gives the requirements for one type of mushroom-head bolts, four types of countersunk-head bolts and hexagon and square nuts. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this stan

19、, as relevant Amdt 1 3.2 agreed upon as agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser 3.3 bolt-head eccentricity the displacement of the axis of the head in relation to the axis of the shank 3.4 effective length of the thread the distance between the extreme end of a bolt (including any cha
20、mfer or radius) and the unchamfered, non-countersunk leading face of a nut that is so threaded to give a free class of fit (see 4.7), that is screwed on as far as possible by hand and that is hand-tight 3.5 scant shank a shank in which the diameter of the unthreaded portion is approximately equal to
21、 the minimum pitch diameter of the screw thread 4 Requirements 4.1 Types 4.1.1 Bolts Bolts shall be one of the following types, as required (see A.1(a): a) mushroom-head nib bolts (see table 1); SANS 1143:2008 Edition 2.1 5 b) 90 countersunk-head nib bolts (see table 2); c) 90 countersunk-head slott
22、ed bolts (see table 3); d) 90 countersunk-head square-neck bolts (see table 4); e) 120 countersunk-head square-neck bolts (see table 5). 4.1.2 Nuts Nuts, with or without a washer face and with one or both faces chamfered, shall be one of the following types, as required: a) hexagon nuts; b) square n
23、uts. 4.2 Grade of bolts The grade of bolts shall be 4.6 or 4.8, as agreed upon. 4.3 Mechanical properties 4.3.1 Bolts Bolts shall comply with the mechanical property requirements of grade 4.6 or 4.8 of SANS 1700-5-1. 4.3.2 Nuts Nuts shall comply with the relevant mechanical property requirements of
24、SANS 1700-5-2, other than that for resistance to proof load. 4.4 Nominal size of bolts The nominal size of bolts shall be as required and shall be one of the sizes given in column 1 of tables 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, as relevant to the type of bolt specified by the purchaser (see A.1(b). 4.5 Dimensions of b
25、olts 4.5.1 General The dimensions (other than length) of bolts shall conform to the appropriate values given in tables 1 to 5, as relevant, except that when bolts with scant shanks are required by the purchaser (see A.1(c) the diameter of the unthreaded portion of the shank shall not be less than th
26、e minimum pitch diameter of the screw thread. 4.5.2 Nominal length The nominal length shall be as given in SANS 1700-3-5 or as given in table 6, as required. The actual length of a bolt shall not differ from the nominal value by more than the appropriate of the tolerances given in SANS 1700-4-1. SAN
27、S 1143:2008 Edition 2.1 6 4.5.3 Thread length 4.5.3.1 Bolts of normal length The effective length of the thread on a bolt shall, subject to a plus tolerance of two pitches, conform to the appropriate value given in SANS 1700-3-1 and SANS 1700-3-5. 4.5.3.2 Short bolts Bolts that are too short (i.e. i
28、n which the nominal length/shank diameter ratio is too small) to allow the thread length specified in 4.5.3.1 above to be achieved, shall be threaded to as near to the neck, the nib, or the head (as relevant) as possible. 4.5.4 Thread run-out The thread run-outs shall comply with the requirements of
29、 SANS 1700-3-6. 4.5.6 Ends of bolts The ends of bolts shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1700-3-7. 4.5.7 Eccentricity Any bolt-head eccentricity and any eccentricity between the shank and the thread shall not exceed the appropriate maximum given in SANS 1700-4-1. 4.6 Dimensions of nuts The d
30、imensions of the nuts shall comply with the relevant requirements of SANS 1700-14-1, SANS 1700-14-2, SANS 1700-14-3, SANS 1700-14-4 or SANS 1700-14-5. 4.7 Screw threads 4.7.1 The screw threads of bolts and nuts shall be parallel throughout their length and, in the case of bolts, may be rolled or mac
31、hine cut. 4.7.2 They shall comply with the relevant requirements for coarse series threads of SANS 1700-2-1 and SANS 1700-2-2. The tolerances shall be those given in SANS 1700-4-1 for free class of fit (7H/8g). 4.8 Finish Bolts and nuts shall be free from defects such as burrs, seams, laps, scale, a
32、nd irregular surfaces that may affect their serviceability. If so required by the purchaser, bolts and nuts shall have an anti-corrosion protective coating of the type agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser (see A.1(d) and A.2). 5 Testing and acceptance inspection All nuts and bolts shal
33、l be tested and inspected in accordance with SANS 1700-6-2. SANS 1143:2008 Edition 2.1 7 6 Packing and marking 6.1 Packing The units shall be packed in strong bags, in barrels, or in other acceptable containers. Only units that consist of the same types and dimensions shall be packed together in any
34、 one container. 6.2 Marking 6.2.1 Bolts Each bolt shall be legibly marked (by indenting or embossing) with the name, trade name or trade mark of the manufacturer. 6.2.2 Containers The following information shall be given in legible and indelible marking on each container or on an acceptable label se
35、curely attached to the container: a) the name, trade name or trade mark of the manufacturer; b) a description (that includes the type) of the contents; c) the nominal size; and d) the net mass (in kilograms) or the quantity of units.
