10、08 Edition 1.1 3 Electrical terminals and connectors Part 2: Flat push-on connectors 1 Scope 1.1 This part of the specification covers flat push-on connectors, comprising rectangular tabs and their mating receptacles, intended for use in a.c. and d.c. medium and low voltage electrical circuits and h
11、aving various maximum operating temperatures up to 300 C. 1.2 This part of the specification does not cover screw and screwless terminals1). NOTE a) The standards referred to in this part of the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Information regarding the verification of the quality of flat
12、push-on connectors produced to this part of the specification, and the sampling plan to be used to assess compliance with this part of the specification of a lot of flat push-on connectors are given in appendix B. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this part of the specification the following def
13、initions shall apply: conductor connection the electrical and mechanical connection between a conductor and a receptacle or tab flat push-on connector connector an assembly of a tab and a receptacle, enabling a core or conductor to be connected to an item of electrical equipment or to another core o
14、r conductor maximum permissible operating temperature the highest temperature, as specified by the manufacturer, that a connector is allowed to attain in normal use and that is produced as a result of ambient conditions and induced heat nominal cross-sectional area (size) (of a conductor) the electr

17、r capacity 3.1.1 Nominal size A flat push-on connector shall be of one of the nominal sizes given in column 1 of table 1. 3.1.2 Conductor capacity A connector shall be capable of accepting a conductor of one or more of the rated areas given in column 2 of table 1, appropriate to the nominal size of
18、the connector and as stated by the manufacturer (see 5.2.2(a)(3). SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 5 3.2 Design and construction The tab and the receptacle of a connector shall be so designed and constructed that a) they cause no
20、 danger to persons or surroundings even in the event of such careless use as may occur in normal service; b) the required reliability and degree of safety are maintained throughout the life of the connector; c) they allow the connection of stranded (flexible or rigid) or solid conductors without add
21、itional preparation of the conductors other than stripping of the insulation. The receptacle of a connector shall be self-adjusting to enable it to accommodate a tab of the appropriate nominal size and, when provided with a combined means of retention and location, shall be so designed that proper l
22、ocation occurs only when the receptacle is in full engagement with the tab. 3.3 Dimensions When measured in accordance with 6.3, the dimensions of each tab shall conform to the values given in figure 1 and the dimensions of each receptacle shall conform to the values given in figure 2. 4 Electrical
23、and physical requirements 4.1 Mechanical strength of conductor connections When a connector is tested in accordance with 6.4, the conductor shall not break at the joint with, or become detached from, the tab or the receptacle, as relevant. 4.2 Mechanical reliability of receptacles When a connector i
24、s tested in accordance with 6.5, the insertion force shall not exceed the appropriate maximum value given in column 2 or 3, as applicable, of table 2 and the withdrawal force shall not exceed the appropriate maximum value and shall not be less than the appropriate minimum value given in the table. 26、.1 6 4.3 Voltage drop When a connector is tested in accordance with 6.6, the voltage drop across any connector or conductor connection shall not exceed the relevant value given in table 3. 29、the connectors future use, and the voltage drop shall not exceed 150 % of the average of the values obtained before the test was conducted. 4.5 Resistance to corrosion When a connector is tested in accordance with the applicable of the tests given in 6.8, there shall be no evidence of corrosion that
30、 may impair the connectors future use, and the voltage drop shall not exceed 200 % of the average of the values obtained before the test was conducted. 4.6 Resistance to temperature cycling When a connector is tested in accordance with 6.9, the voltage drop shall not exceed 200 % of the average of t
31、he values obtained before the test was conducted. 5 Packing and marking 5.1 Packing Connectors or connector components shall be so packed that they are protected against damage during normal handling, transportation and storage, and that loss of items from the package in transit is prevented. Recept
32、acles and tabs supplied in the form of chains shall be coiled. Only connectors or connector components of the same design, materials and construction and nominal size shall be packed together in the same package. SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 7 5.2 Marking 5.2.1 Connectors Where practicable, each rec
33、eptacle and each tab shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the name, trade name or trade mark of the manufacturer. 5.2.2 Packages a) Each package (or a label securely attached to the package) shall bear the following information in legible and indelible marking: 1) The marking required in terms
34、 of 5.2.1; 2) a description of the contents; 3) the nominal size of the connectors or connector components; 4) the rated area(s) of the conductors with which the connectors are intended to be used; 5) the maximum permissible operating temperature; 6) an indication as to whether the connectors are su
35、itable for use in a severely corrosive environment. b) Each bulk package shall bear the marking required in terms of (a) above together with a catalogue number or equivalent identification mark. 5.2.3 Coils Each coil shall have securely attached to it a label that bears the marking required in terms
36、 of 5.2.2(a)(1) and (3) - (5). 5.2.4 Instruction sheets The manufacturer shall supply an instruction sheet that contains all the information required in accordance with 5.2.2 and includes instructions for the use of any special tools that may be required to effect satisfactory conductor connections.
37、 6 Inspection and methods of test NOTE The definitions, sampling procedure and criteria of compliance given in appendix B.2 shall apply. 6.1 Inspection a) Visually examine each container or coil, as relevant, in the sample for compliance with the applicable requirements of 5.2.2 and 5.2.3. b) Visual
38、ly examine each connector or connector component in the sample for compliance with all the relevant requirements of sections 3, 4 and 5 for which tests to assess compliance are not given in 6.3 - 6.9 (inclusive). 6.2 Sequence of testing and test conditions Unless otherwise stated, conduct the tests
39、in the order in which they are given and at an ambient temperature of 25 5 C. SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 8 6.3 Dimensions Measure three tabs and three receptacles, and check for compliance with 3.3. 6.4 Test for mechanical strength of conductor connections 6.4.1 Apparatus A spring balance or other
40、 equally suitable device for measuring force. 6.4.2 Test specimens Three connectors, the tabs and receptacles of which are each fitted, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, with an untinned copper conductor of the smallest nominal cross-sectional area for which the connector has been d
41、esigned, and, when relevant, having the insulation clamping device rendered ineffective. 6.4.3 Procedure Firmly clamp each tab and apply along the axis of the conductor, without jerking, a tensile force of the appropriate magnitude given in table 4, for a period of at least 1 min. Carry out the same
42、 procedure on each receptacle. Check for compliance with 4.1. 43、 lower size. 6.5 Test for mechanical reliability of receptables 6.5.1 Apparatus As in 6.4.1. 6.5.2 Test specimens Three connectors. SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 9 6.5.3 Procedure Measure the insertion and withdrawal forces for each of 10 insertions and withdrawals, using the same tab and receptacle
44、each time. Repeat the test on each of the remaining specimens and check the results for compliance with 4.2. 6.6 Test for voltage drop 6.6.1 Apparatus a) An a.c. power supply capable of supplying and maintaining the appropriate test current with an accuracy of 2,5 %. b) An a.c. ammeter capable of in
45、dicating the appropriate test current with an accuracy of 2 %. c) An a.c. millivoltmeter having an input impedance of at least 1 M, a resolution of 0,1 mV and accurate to within 2 %. 6.6.2 Test specimens For each of the largest and smallest sizes of conductor for which the connectors are designed, u
46、se 10 connectors. 6.6.3 Preparation a) Fit a 150 mm length of the largest size of untinned copper conductor for which the connectors are designed to each of 10 tabs and receptacles and fit each tab into a corresponding receptacle. b) Mark each specimen assembly with a suitable means of identificatio
47、n. c) Mark voltage measuring points A, B, C, D and E as shown in figure 4. d) Prepare a further 10 connectors as in (a) - (c) above, using the smallest size of untinned conductor for which the connectors are designed. NOTE 1) Dimension CD in figure 4 is arbitrary but should not exceed dimension BC.
48、2) When connecting the conductors, use the method prescribed by the manufacturer. 6.6.4 Procedure a) Pass an alternating or a direct current, maintained to within 2,5 % of the value specified in table 3 appropriate to the conductor size, through each assembly until the temperature has stabilized, bu
49、t for a period of at least 20 min. b) Measure and record the voltage drop across each connector and each conductor connection as shown in figure 4. SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 10 c) In the case of a direct current, reverse the direction of the direct current through each assembly, again measure and record the voltage drop across the conductor connection to the tab and calculate the average voltage drop across each connector and each conductor connection. d) Check for compliance wit
