、11 (inclusive). 5.2 Preparation for testing 5.2.1 Test door and frame A test door of the appropriate dimensions and mass as specified in columns 2, 3 and 4 of table 1, mounted on hinges or bearings attached to a rigid frame and such that a) the centre of gravity of the test door is at the intersecti

、on of a horizontal line midway between the hinges and a vertical line at a distance from the vertical axis of the hinges as given in column 5 of table 1; NOTE If the mass of the door is less than that given in column 4 of table 1, the mass may be increased with a steel plate in such a manner that th

、e centre of gravity is as required. b) the moment required to open the door does not exceed 1 Nm. The moment is determined by measuring the maximum force (in newtons) required to open and close the door slowly, with the force applied perpendicular to the door face and at a position 700 mm from the v

、ertical axis of the hinges; c) an eye bolt (or other suitable means of attachment for a cable) is provided, 50 mm from the lockside of the door, on a horizontal line midway between the hinges, on the opening face of the door. 5.2.2 Procedure a) Mount the door closer under test on the test door and f

SANS 1510-1:2008 Edition 1.1 7 b) With the closer mounted on the test door, open the door by hand to approximately 180 or to the maximum opening angle specified by the manufacturer, whichever is the lesser,

、and allow the door closer to return the door to the closed position. Repeat this four times (i.e. to a total of five times) in order to ensure that the mounting and operation of the door and closer are satisfactory. NOTE If variable-size door closers are to be tested, test two door closers, one set

、at the minimum size and the other at the maximum size claimed for that door closer. 5.3 Test apparatus 5.3.1 Cycling mechanism A cycling mechanism that a) is capable of smoothly opening the door from the closed position to the fully open position within a period of 5-7 s; b) provides the facility to

、 set the dwell time between successive opening/closing cycles to a minimum of 3 s and a maxi mum of 10 s; c) has a counter to record the number of cycles; d) neither impedes nor assists the return of the test door from the fully open position to the closed position. 5.3.2 Abuse apparatus An abuse ap

、paratus that a) consists of a system of pulleys with a steel cable of nominal diameter 6 mm and a masspiece so arranged that, when the door is closed, the cable attached to the eye-bolt forms an included angle of 45 between the cable and the door; b) has a means by which the test door can be suddenl

、y released from its closed position; c) has a means of so arresting the masspiece when the test door reaches the 75 open position that further opening of the door is not impeded; d) has an energy-absorbent stop to prevent the door from opening beyond 95. NOTE The masspiece shall be of mass equal to

、s: a) Carry out 4 000 opening/closing cycles, ensuring that any backcheck or delayed or hold-open action is disabled or adjusted to the minimum resistance during cycling. b) Using the abuse apparatus, subject the closer to four cycles of abuse, as follows: 1) Hold the door in the closed position; 2)

、 suddenly release the door and allow the masspiece to pull the door open until it is stopped by the closer. c) If necessary, re-adjust the door closer in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. 5.5 Sequence of testing After conditioning the door closer in accordance with 5.4, carry out the t

、ests given in 5.6-5.10 (inclusive) followed by the test for durability given in 5.11. Then repeat the tests given in 5.6-5.10 (inclusive). NOTE a) If a door closer is supplied together with instructions for various mounting arrangements to provide different maximum opening angles, carry out the init

、ial and final series of tests using each mounting arrangement in turn, but carry out the durability test using the arrangement that provides the greatest maximum opening angle. b) The angles specified by the manufacturer for commencement of various actions (e.g. the backcheck action), may vary for d

、ifferent mounting arrangements. 5.6 Test for closing moment 5.6.1 Apparatus A force gauge or other suitable means of measuring the horizontal force exerted by the door owing to the closer. 5.6.2 Procedure a) Open the door to the 95 open position. Allow the door to close very slowly against the force

、 gauge so positioned perpendicular to the face of the door and at a horizontal distance of 700 mm from the vertical axis of the hinges that the door will be stopped at 90 from the closed position. Record the gauge reading. b) Repeat (a) above with the force gauge so positioned that the door will be

、stopped at 2 from the closed position, and record the gauge reading. c) Calculate the closing moment in each case as the force times 0,7 m, and check for compliance with 3.3. SANS 1510-1:2008 Edition 1.1 9 5.7 Test for closing time a) Set the adjustment for closing speed to its slowest setting. b) O

、pen the door by hand to the 90 open position and allow the door closer to return the door to the closed position. c) Measure the time required for this action and check for compliance with 3.4. 5.8 Test for opening moment 5.8.1 Apparatus A force gauge or other suitable means of measuring the horizon

、tal force necessary to open the door. 5.8.2 Procedure Use the force gauge, positioned at a point 700 mm from the vertical axis of the hinges, to push the door open very slowly, and record the highest gauge reading between 15 mm and 75 mm opening of the door, and check for compliance with 3.5. 5.9 Te

、st for latching action Open the door to the fully open position and allow the door closer to return the door to the closed position. Note the door position at which the latching action commences and check for compliance with 3.6. 5.10 Test for backcheck stop position a) With the abuse test apparatus

、 attached to the test door (and the backcheck action (if relevant) adjusted to maximum resistance), hold the door in the closed position. b) Suddenly release the door, and allow the masspiece to pull the door open until it is stopped by the closer. c) Note the position at which the door stops and ch

、eck for compliance with 3.7. 5.11 Test for durability 5.11.1 Procedure NOTE Ensure that any backcheck action or delayed or hold-open action is disabled or adjusted to the minimum resistance during cycling. a) Using the cycling mechanism, carry out 500 000 opening/closing cycles of the test door. b) After each 50 000 cycles, stop the cycling mechanism, set the backcheck and carry out four cycles of abuse as described in 5.4(b) and (c), leaving the cycling mechanism switched off for at least 12 h. c) Examine the door closer, the operating arms and arm linkage
