6、 ignition cables 1 Scope This standard specifies a method for the determination of the oil resistance of vehicle ignition cables. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 8、ables Part 3: Tests on finished cable. 3 Apparatus 3.1 Rubber cables 3.1.1 Metal mandrel of diameter 25 mm. 3.1.2 Micrometer capable of reading to an accuracy of at least 0,1 mm. 3.2 PVC cables 3.2.1 Metal mandrel of diameter 25 mm. 3.2.2 High-voltage a.c. test equipment as in SANS 6284-3. 4 Test me

9、dium Unused mineral lubricating oil that complies with the relevant requirements for oil of grade SAE 20. 5 Test specimens 5.1 In the case of rubber cables, one 450 mm length of finished rubber cable. SANS 5511:2008 Edition 3 2 5.2 In the case of PVC cables, one 750 mm length of finished PVC cable.

10、6 Procedure 6.1 Rubber cables 6.1.1 Measure the average outside diameter of the specimen to the nearest 0,1 mm. 6.1.2 Subject the specimen to 10 cycles of bending, each of which is carried out as follows: so wind the full length of the specimen round the mandrel as to form a tight spiral; unwind the

11、 specimen and wind again as given above but subjecting the surface of the specimen that was under maximum tension to maximum compression. 6.1.3 Remove the specimen from the mandrel, bend it into a U-loop that has straight sides of length at least 100 mm, and immerse it to within 25 mm of the ends in

12、 the test medium at room temperature. 6.1.4 Raise the temperature of the oil to 100 C 2 C and maintain it at this temperature for 5 h. 6.1.5 Remove the specimen from the oil, wipe it, and allow it to cool to room temperature. 6.1.6 Measure the average diameter of the immersed parts of the straight p

13、ortions of the U-loop to determine whether swelling has taken place, and examine for stickiness, softness, blisters, and other defects. 6.2 PVC cables 6.2.1 Leaving a free length of at least 75 mm at each end, wind the specimen round the metal mandrel as follows: Number of turns. 5 Spacing between t

14、urns 19 mm Speed of winding. 1 turn/s Load applied during winding 45 N 6.2.2 So immerse the mandrel and specimen in the test medium that a length not less than 75 mm at each end of the cable protrudes above the surface of the oil. Raise the temperature of the oil to 90 C 2 C and maintain it at this

15、temperature for 48 h. 6.2.3 Remove the mandrel and specimen from the oil, remove the specimen from the mandrel, wipe it, and allow it to cool to room temperature. 6.2.4 Form the specimen into a coil of diameter not less than 75 mm and that has a free length of not less than 75 mm at each end, and im

16、merse the coiled part in water at room temperature. 6.2.5 Earth the water and apply an alternating voltage of any frequency between 25 Hz and 100 Hz between the conductor of the specimen and the water. Raise the voltage gradually to 25 kV r.m.s. and maintain it at this value for 5 min. Standards South Africa
