6、ucers, and plates 1 Scope This standard specifies a method for the determination of the impact strength of cups, saucers, and plates. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies

SANS 6508-2/ISO 6508-2, Metallic materials Rockwell hardness test Part 2: Verification and calibration of testing machines (scales A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,K,N,T). 3 Apparatus Impact strength test apparatus, as shown in figures 1(a) and (b) and fitted with a 90 g hammer

9、 and a 90 g dial. The striking face of the hammer shall have a Rockwell C hardness of 60 3 , determined in accordance with SANS 6508-1 and SANS 6508-2. NOTE Other impact strength testing devices may be used provided that they give results comparable to those obtained on the apparatus described in th

10、is standard. 4 Sampling Take a laboratory sample as specified in the relevant product standard. Where no standard exists, take the laboratory sample as agreed upon between the test laboratory and the manufacturer to ensure a reasonable and acceptable reliability at a reasonable and acceptable confid

11、ence level. 5 Procedure 5.1 Cups 5.1.1 So position the cup (on its foot) in the V formed by the V-blocks of the impact strength test apparatus (see figures 1(a) and (b) that only the rim of the cup is in contact with V-blocks, and that, when the hammer hangs perpendicular, the centre of its striking

12、 face just touches the rim of the cup and that the point of contact is in the plane of the bisector of the angle of the V (see figure 2). SANS 5790:2008 Edition 2 2 5.1.2 Subject the cup to a series of hammer blows, beginning with a blow of energy 0,02 J and increasing the energy of each successive

13、blow by an increment of 0,01 J. 5.1.3 Continue until a crack develops in the body of the cup or a part of the body breaks off. 5.2 Saucers and plates 5.2.1 So support the test specimen against the ring that, when the hammer hangs perpendicular, the centre of its striking face just touches the centre

14、 of the bottom of the specimen (see figure 3). 5.2.2 Subject the test specimen to a series of hammer blows, beginning with a blow of energy 0,02 J and increasing the energy of each successive blow by an increment of 0,01 J until the energy reaches 0,14 J and then by increments of 0,02 J until a hole

15、 is formed or a crack (that is visible on both sides of the test specimen) develops. 6 Test report Report the following information: a) all the data needed to identify the laboratory sample tested; b) confirmation that the test was carried out in accordance with this standard; c) any deviation from

16、this standard; and d) the maximum impact, in joules, withstood before failure occurred.
