11、rd specifies requirements for 11 grades of unalloyed (including electrical grade) primary aluminium in the form of ingots for remelting, including the designation applicable to those grades and the marks by which they are identified. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions
12、which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision and, since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to take steps to

15、pply: 3.1 acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 1 3.2 cast metal taken from the same furnace or from the same ladle or from several furnaces and mixed in the same furnace or in the same ladle before po
16、uring 3.3 consignment all ingots of the same nominal chemical composition and bearing the same cast identification, made by one manufacturer and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing SANS 711:2008 Edition 2.1 4 3.4 impurity metallic or non-metallic elements present in, but not intenti
17、onally added to, or retained by, the aluminium metal 3.5 primary aluminium aluminium obtained by reduction from, or by decomposition of, an aluminium compound and which has not been subjected to any processing other than casting into ingots 4 Requirements 4.1 General The ingots shall be uniform in q
18、uality and visually free from dross and scale, corrosion products, inclusions, grease or any other contaminants. NOTE The ingots might have shrinkage holes or cracks which could contain moisture. The manufacturer and the supplier should take all necessary precautions to avoid the risk of explosion d
19、uring subsequent use of the ingots. 4.2 Method of manufacture Unless otherwise agreed upon, the method by which the various grades of aluminium ingots are produced shall be at the discretion of the manufacturer (see annex A). 4.3 Chemical composition The composition of aluminium ingots, as determine
20、d in accordance with 5.2, shall comply with the requirements of table 1. Limits for elements other than those given in columns 3 to 14 of table 1 shall be as agreed upon (see annex A). 4.4 Product form Ingots shall be supplied either as tee-shaped individual items, suitable for mechanical handling a
21、nd of mass up to 1 500 kg each, or as stackable, notched ingots of mass up to 25 kg each. 5 Inspection and method of test 5.1 Inspection Visually examine each tee-shaped ingot supplied, or a minimum of five stackable ingots taken at random from each bundle supplied, for compliance with the requireme
22、nts of 4.1, 6.1 and 6.2. 5.2 Test for chemical composition 5.2.1 Use any agreed method of analysis to check the chemical composition of ingots for compliance with table 1 (see annex A). 5.2.2 Carry out sufficient analytical checking of all production to ensure compliance with the chemical-compositio
23、n requirements of table 1. 5.2.3 In cases of dispute, use the method of analysis described in ASTM E 34 in conjunction with the standard practice for sampling described in ASTM E 88. SANS 711:2008 Edition 2.1 5 6 Packing and marking 6.1 Packing 6.1.1 Tee-shaped ingots shall be supplied as individual
24、 items. 6.1.2 Unless otherwise agreed upon, stackable ingots shall be packed in bundles of mass not exceeding one ton (see annex A). 6.1.3 Bundles shall be acceptably secured and so wrapped as to prevent damage during normal handling, transportation and storage. 6.1.4 Unless otherwise agreed upon, e
25、ach consignment shall only contain ingots from one identified cast of metal (see annex A). 6.2 Marking Each ingot or each bundle of ingots shall bear the following information in legible, indelible and non-contaminating marking: a) the manufacturers name or trade name or trade mark; b) the cast iden
26、tification number; and c) the grade designation. 6.3 Certification When so required, each consignment shall be accompanied by a certificate of analysis that gives the actual content of each element found to be in excess of 0,010 % (see annex A). 32、(normative) Notes to purchasers A.1 The following requirements shall be specified in tender invitations and in each order or contract: a) the grade designation of the alloy (see 4.3 and table 1); b) the total mass of the consignment; c) the form of the product (see 4.4); d) whether a certificate of
33、analysis is to accompany each consignment (see 6.3). A.2 The following requirements shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer: a) the method of manufacture (see 4.2); b) the limits for elements not given in table 1 (see 4.3); c) the method of chemical analysis (see 5.2.1); d) a
34、ny special packing requirements (see 6.1.2 and 6.1.4). Annex B (normative) Rounding-off rules When the results of chemical analysis are being recorded, the number that represents the result for any value specified in the standard shall be expressed to the same number of decimal places as the corresp
35、onding number in this standard. The following rounding-off rules shall be applied: a) When the figure immediately after the last figure to be retained is less than 5, then the last figure to be retained remains unchanged. b) When the figure immediately after the last figure to be retained exceeds or
36、 is equal to 5 and is followed by at least one figure other than zero, then the last figure to be retained is increased by one. c) When the figure immediately after the last figure to be retained is 5 and is followed by zeros only, then the last figure to be retained remains unchanged if even, and i
37、s increased by one if odd. SANS 711:2008 Edition 2.1 8 Annex C (informative) Quality verification of primary aluminium ingots for remelting C.1 When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of primary aluminium ingots for remelting, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating sole
38、ly on evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system. In this connection it should be noted that SANS 9001 covers the provision of an integrated quality system. Amdt 1 C.2 If no information about the implementation of quality control or testing duri
39、ng manufacture is available to help in assessing the quality of a consignment, and a purchaser wishes to establish, by inspection and testing of samples of the final product, whether a consignment of the primary aluminium ingots complies with this standard, then a sampling plan based on acceptable s
40、tatistical tables should be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
