12、SABS.SANS 921:2009 Edition 3.1 3 Pitch-impregnated fibre pipes and fittings and jointing 1 Scope This standard specifies the dimensional and minimum quality requirements for pitch-impregnated fibre pipes (known as pitch fibre pipes) of nominal diameter 75 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm, together with pitch f

13、ibre fittings and polypropylene and polyethylene couplings, that are suitable, when they have solid walls, for use as cable conduit and when they have perforated walls, for subsoil drainage. NOTE Assessment of compliance with the requirements of 4.11.2 for perforated pipes shall be the subject of a

14、special agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser. 2 Normative reference The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision and, since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a

15、 reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to take steps to ensure the use of the most recent edition of the standard indicated below. SANS 892, General purpose detergent (beads, granules and powders). 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions apply: 3.1 acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as rel

17、evant Amdt 1 3.2 defective a length of pipe, a coupling, a fitting, a test unit or a test specimen that fails in one or more respects to comply with the appropriate requirements of the standard 4 Requirements 4.1 Materials 4.1.1 Pipes Pipes shall consist of a preformed felted fibrous structure impre

18、gnated with a suitable coal tar pitch, such as a) coke-oven pitch (referred to as high temperature pitch), or This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 921:2009 Edition 3.1 4 b) medium temperature pitch, as obtained from the “oil fro

19、m coal“ gasification process, or both. 4.1.2 Couplings and fittings Fittings shall be of the same material as the pipe. Couplings shall be of one of the following materials, as appropriate to the type of coupling, and as required: a) an acceptable polypropylene (see annex C); or b) an acceptable pol

20、yethylene. 4.1.3 Adhesives Adhesives used in fabricated fittings (see 4.12.2) shall produce joints that are not inferior to the pipe material with respect to resistance to moisture absorption (see 4.6) and resistance to boiling water (see 4.7). 4.2 Classes and types 4.2.1 Pipes Pipes shall be of cla

21、ss 1, class 2 or class 3 (table 3), as required, and shall have solid walls or perforated walls, as required. 4.2.2 Couplings Couplings shall be of either the tapered polypropylene type or the plain polyethylene type, as required (see figure 5). 4.2.3 Fittings Fittings shall be radius bends, segment

22、al bends, junctions or channel junctions, as required. 4.3 Dimensions 4.3.1 Pipes 4.3.1.1 The nominal length of a pipe, when determined in accordance with 6.2.1, shall be within the limits indicated in table 1 and as required. The dimensions of a tapered end shall conform to the appropriate values given in columns 4 to 12 of table 2. 4.3.1.3 The internal diameter of a pipe shall, when measured in accordance with 6.2.2, conform to the appropriate values given in columns 2 and 3 o

27、sions that project more than 3 mm above the surrounding surface. 4.5 Tightness of joints in pipes with solid walls When a joint is tested in accordance with 6.3, it shall show no sign of leakage. 4.6 Resistance to moisture absorption The moisture absorption of a pipe or a fitting, determined in acco

28、rdance with 6.4, shall not exceed 5 % by mass. 4.7 Resistance to boiling water When a pipe or a fitting is tested in accordance with 6.5, it shall show no evidence of structural disintegration or separation into laminations and the dry crushing strength of the pipe, determined in accordance with 6.7

29、, shall be at least equal to the appropriate value given in table 3. 31、ermined in accordance with 6.7 and 6.8 respectively, shall be not less than the value given in table 3, appropriate to the class of the pipe tested. 4.10 Beam strength of pipes When a pipe is tested in accordance with 6.9, it shall withstand the appropriate load given in table 4 without any sign of

32、cracking or other failure. 33、 otherwise required, be perforated as follows: a) perforations shall be cleanly cut and evenly spaced in rows parallel to the axis of the pipe, as shown in figure 1; This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 921:2009 Edition 3.1 7 b)

34、 perforations shall be holes of diameter not exceeding 10 mm, or equivalent area, and the spacing between the centre-lines of adjacent holes in a row shall be 75 mm 10 mm; c) there shall be two rows of holes in pipes of nominal size 75 mm and 100 mm and four rows of holes in pipes of nominal size 15

35、0 mm; and d) the centre-lines of all perforations shall be contained within an arc of between 100 and 160 (see figure 1). 4.11.2 Other requirements Perforated pipes shall be produced from pipes of the type with solid walls. Before perforation, these pipes shall have complied with the relevant requir

36、ements of the standard. 4.12 Specific requirements for fittings 4.12.1 General 4.12.1.1 Fittings shall have been either moulded to shape or fabricated from a pipe. 4.12.1.2 Fittings for class 1 and class 2 pipes shall be interchangeable. 4.12.1.3 Pipes used in the fabrication of the fittings shall c

37、omply with all the relevant requirements of the standard. NOTE Rows of perforations may also be staggered. 41、re of the joint, one impact of the masspiece. 4.12.3 Internal diameter When a fitting is tested in accordance with 6.2.3, a ball of the appropriate diameter given in table 5 shall pass freely through the fitting. 43、4.13.1 Resistance to impact When a polypropylene coupling is tested in accordance with 6.11.1, it shall show no evidence of open or closed cracking on either the inside or the outside surface. 4.13.2 Tensile strength of weld line When a polypropylene coupling is tested in accordance with 6.11.2, it

44、shall show no sign of cracking or splitting. 4.13.3 Resistance to heat When a polypropylene coupling is tested in accordance with 6.11.3, it shall show no sign of splitting or blistering. 4.13.4 Taper The taper of a polypropylene coupling shall match that of the pipes and fittings to which it is int

45、ended to be connected (see columns 4 to 12 of table 2). 5 Packing and marking 5.1 Marking of pipes Each pipe shall bear the following information in legible and indelible marking: a) the manufacturers name, or trade name, or other identification; b) the date of manufacture, or a batch number related

46、 to the date of manufacture; and c) the class. 5.2 Packing and marking of couplings Unless otherwise required, enough couplings to provide one coupling for each pipe in the consignment shall be packed in suitable containers, and each container shall bear the following information in legible and inde

47、lible marking: a) the manufacturers name, or trade name, or other identification; b) the date of manufacture, or a batch number related to the date of manufacture; and c) the size and the number of couplings in the container. 5.3 Marking of fittings Each fitting and, when applicable, each container

48、of fittings, shall bear the following information in legible and indelible marking: a) the manufacturers name, or trade name, or other identification; b) the date of manufacture, or a batch number related to the date of manufacture; and c) in the case of containers, the type and the number of fittin

49、gs in the container. This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 921:2009 Edition 3.1 11 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection Inspect each pipe, fitting and coupling in the sample for compliance with those requirements of the standard for which tests to assess compliance are not given in 6.2 to 6.11 (inclusive). 6.2 Dimensions 6.2.1 Length of pipes 6.2.1.1 Measure, to the nearest 5 mm, the overall length of each pipe in the sample. 6.2.1.2 Check for compliance wit
