32、ata Circuit-Terminating Equipment for Serial Data Transmission. 1.2 This Standard recognizes the need to have a number of different sets of standard performance requirements because of differing operating conditions that lead to a different way of implementing equipment. A number of performance char

33、acteristics, therefore, are defined for transmitting equipment and for receiving equipment, it being the intent that any receiving category may be specified to operate with any transmitting category, the actual selection being dependent on such factors as channel performance, acceptable error rate,

34、and the economic considerations of the system. 1.2.1 Categories I and B, as defined herein, are specified for general purpose applications and the use thereof shall be assumed unless a different category is specified for the equipment used. 1.3 This Standard is of particular importance when the equi

35、pment in a system is furnished by different organizations. It does not attempt to indicate what action, if any, is to be taken if the limits are not met, but it is intended to provide a basis for agreement between parties involved. I .4 Any equipment which is represented as complying with limits est

36、ablished by this Standard shall meet the applicable specifications with the ranges of those factors which are described as appropriate for the operation of the equipment, such as primary power voltage and frequency, ambient temperature and humidity. 1.5 This Standard does not describe signal quality

37、 performance characteristics of data circuit-terminating equipment or the communications channel associated with it. Neither does it describe any requirement for error performance of the system or any of its components. Compliance of the terminais with the requirements for a particular standard sign

42、cal Characteristics for An Unbalanced Digital Interface 3 DEFINITIONS The following definitions apply to the characteristics of signal quality described in this Standard and, for the purposes of this Standard, are the only meaning that should be attached to the characteristics described. 3.1 Baud A

43、unit of signaling speed equal to the number of discrete signal conditions, variations or events per second. When applied to digital signal transmission, the baud rate is equal to the number of bits per second. 3.2 Bit (Binary Digit) A unit of information equal to a single binary decision. 3.3 Charac

45、573655 660 ANSIlTINEIA-404-B 3.4 Data 3.4.1 Received Data Data from a remote location that has been processed by the data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE) and passed on to the data terminal equipment (DTE) on the receive data interchange circuit. 3.4.2 Transmitted Data Data originating within the

46、 DTE and passed to the DCE on the transmit data interchange circuit. 3.5. Distortion 3.5.1 Start-Stop Distortion In non-synchronous start-stop signaling, the shifting of transition points of the signal pulses (bits) from their proper positions relative to the beginning of the start pulse. The magnit

47、ude of the distortion is expressed in percent of a perfect unit interval (bit) length. Distortion is expressed as positive when the transition occurs after its ideal instant, and negative when the transition occurs prior to its ideal instant. 3.5.2 Gross Start-Stop Distortion A measured distortion o

48、f a start-stop transmission system when the unit interval corresponds exactly to the nominal bit rate of the system. 3.5.3 Synchronous Start-Stop Distortion A measured distortion of a start-stop transmission system when the unit interval corresponds to the actual mean bit rate of the signal. 3.6 Mar
