3、ragraph 5.2 and Added Legacy Sections 45-59Subject: Legacy Marking and Labeling RequirementsDECISION:(NEW)5.2 Devices shall be marked in accordance with Sections 45 and 58 59, or as described within theNormative Annex.Normative Annex45 General45.1 All required markings shall be clearly reproduced in

4、 permanent, waterproof lettering of a color orcolors that contrast with the color on which they are applied. Use of more than one color shall not changethe prominence of the markings as required by 46.1.45.2 A device shall not have markings which modify, contradict the intent of, or detract from the

5、prominence of any required markings. Devices shall not be marked to indicate they are suitable for useat high speeds.46 PFD Label Markings46.1 Inflatable devices shall be marked in accordance with Table 46.1 and Figure 46.1. The fonts of thePFD label shall be at least as large as those shown in the

6、figure. If enlarged fonts are used, the relativeprominence between the required markings shall be maintained. The layout of the required markings maybe altered provided the layout used presents the information in Figure 46.1. The markings required inFigure 46.1 shall be visible during donning, but a

7、re not required to be visible after the device is donned.Exception: If the design of a device is such that insufficient surface area exists to permit the contiguouspresentation of the Figure 46.1 markings, the markings may be divided into up to three separate labelsprovided the following groupings a

8、re maintained:a) The warning statement and individual warning items are within a single label group;b) The caution statements are within a single label group; andc) The USCG Approval statements and third party certification mark and information are withina single label group.UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL

23、7 Donning Instructions47.1 Identical written, pictogram, or both, donning instructions present on the device during the UseCharacteristics Tests, Sections 16 27, shall be included on all devices.48 Status Indicator Instructions48.1 Written, pictogram, or both, instructions equivalent to those presen

24、t on the device during evaluationof the inflation system(s) to the Standard for Components for Personal Flotation Devices, UL 1191, shallbe situated so as to be apparent during examination of the status indicators.49 Use, Care, and Maintenance Instructions49.1 Devices shall also be marked with instr

25、uctions on use, care, and maintenance in written or pictogramform. The instructions shall cover cleaning, drying, storage, rearming, use in below freezing conditions,use by non-swimmers, and other supplemental information. A suggested format for the instructionsappears in Figure 49.1. These instruct

28、ecording owner identification andmaintenance/inspection details.51 Initial Arming Warning51.1 An inflatable device which is not sold in an armed and ready-to-use condition shall be marked witha removable hang tag which states WARNING DEVICE IS NOT ARMED. READ INSTRUCTIONS ANDARM PROPERLY PRIOR TO US

The characters in the warning label shall be at least 1/2 inch (13 mm)in height.52 Inflation Medium Container Area Identification52.1 An inflatable device shall be marked with a shadow outline or other suitable means to identify thecorrect position for the inflation medium container. Where there

30、is a physical potential for containers of anincorrect size to be used with the inflatable PFD, the shadow area shall approximate the outline of thecorrect inflation medium container.53 Inflation Medium Container Identification53.1 An inflatable PFD shall be marked in the area of the inflation system

31、 with the unique model numberof the inflation mechanism approved for use on the PFD.Exception No. 1: The marking is not required when the inflation system information specified above isincluded on the PFD label.Exception No. 2: The marking is not required when the inflation system is permanently att

32、ached to thePFD.53.2 An inflatable device shall be marked in the area of the inflation system to indicate the proper inflationmedium container to be used. When CO2is the inflation medium, this marking shall include the gramweight of CO2charge required.54 Visibility of Manual Actuation Means54.1 A ma

33、nual actuation means (e.g., lanyard, knob, or handle) which normally rests against the surfaceof the PFD shall be provided in a highly visible color which contrasts with the color of the PFD. A manualactuation means which normally hangs below the surface of the PFD shall be provided in a highly visi

34、blecolor.55 Buddy line identification55.1 A marking shall be included on both sides of a buddy line or the outside of a pocket in which a buddyline is stowed, in letters at least 12 mm (1/2 inch) high with the words, NOT FOR LIFTING. The use ofa buddy line shall be covered in an Owners Manual. A war

35、ning shall be contained in the Owners Manual,when provided, or provided with the PFD, as appropriate, to address the dangers associated in using thebuddy line to lift a wearer out of the water.56 Sewn Labels56.1 If required markings are not printed directly on the outer shell or lining of a device,

36、the material onwhich the markings are printed shall comply with the requirements in 56.2 56.5.STANDARD NUMBER: UL 1180 -6-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL56.2 The material on which the markings are printed shall be spunbonded,

37、high-density polyethylenesheeting, or the equivalent.56.3 The material shall be fastened to the outer shell or lining of the PFD using a Type 301 stitchconstructed in accordance with Federal Standard 751a, at712stitches per inch (25.4 mm).56.4 The stitching shall lie 5/16 1/4 inch (8 6.4 mm) from th

38、e outer edges of the material along the entireperimeter of the label.56.5 There shall be no stitching within the printed borders of the PFD label.57 Hang Tags57.1 Unless specifically required to be applied to the surface of the device, required markings may beprovided on hang tags permanently attach

39、ed to the device.57.2 The hang tag material on which the markings are printed shall be spunbonded, high-densitypolyethylene sheeting, or have equivalent durability.57.3 There shall be no stitching within the printed borders of the required markings57.4 Hang Tags shall be prominently marked on the bo

40、ttom of the tag with the words Do Not Remove.57.5 If used, hang tags shall be located so as not to be exposed when the device is in a packed condition,or shall be provided with a separate means for stowage and the device is worn.OWNERS MANUAL58 General58.1 Each device shall be accompanied by an owne

41、rs manual which incorporates the text specified in59.1 59.5.59 Required Text59.1 The following text shall be verbatim where presented within quotation marks. The text specified in(b) shall be accompanied by illustrations of the types of devices being described. The illustrations providedshall be pho

42、tographs or drawings of the manufacturers own products or, where this is not possible, shallbe illustrations of other USCG Approved PFDs. The text shall be printed in the sequence shown and shallbe preceded by the words Do not remove prior to sale. The type size shall be 8-point or larger.a) APPROVA

43、L CONDITIONS AND CARRIAGE REGULATIONSThis inflatable PFD is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard for use as a Type II or as appropriate PersonalFlotation Device (PFD). It is not approved for water skiing or other high impact, high speed activities. Thisinflatable PFD was designed to be more comfortable

44、and less restrictive to wear than inherently buoyantPFDs. When worn, used, and serviced according to this owners manual, this PFD can greatly increaseyour chances of survival in the water. Not recommended for non-swimmers or weak swimmers. Users ofinflatable PFDs must be at least 16 years old.Also,

45、specific instructions for any Type V approvals, i.e., harness models, etc., shall be included.b) MANDATORY CARRIAGE REQUIREMENTSSTANDARD NUMBER: UL 1180 -7-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULFederal regulations in 33 CFR 175-1993

46、require you to carry Coast Guard approved personal flotationdevices (PFDs) legibly marked with the Coast Guard approval number which are in good and serviceablecondition and are the correct size for each person on board. To be considered serviceable, this PFD shallnot exhibit deterioration that coul

47、d diminish its performance such as broken or deformed hardware,detached webbing, rotted structural components, air leaks, or nonfunctional oral inflation tube. Unlessworn, this PFD must also be properly armed with a full CO2cylinder, inflation system status indicator, andan accessible manual inflati

48、on lanyard. A PFD which is approved only when worn or required to beworn must be worn under the specified conditions.c) INSTRUCTIONS FOR USEThe instructions required by 59.2 shall be provided here.d) IS YOUR PFD IN GOOD AND SERVICEABLE CONDITION?Check your PFD between outings to be sure that it is p

49、roperly armed; that it is free of rips, tears or holes;that all seams are securely sewn; and that the fabric, straps and hardware are still strong.
