17、R DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and oriented polyvinyl chloride (PVCO) pressure pipe, couplings, and gaskets for use in underground re service systems and connections to such systems. The pipe is either the distribu
18、tion or transmission type. 1.2 Distribution pipe covered by these requirements shall be designated as Pressure Class 165, 235, and 305 for working pressures of 165, 235, and 305 psig (1.14, 1.62, and 2.10 MPa), respectively, and have a nominal inside diameter in the range of 4 to 12 inches. 1.3 Tran
19、smission pipe covered by these requirements shall be designated as Pressure Class 100, 125, 160, 165, 200, 235, and 305 for working pressures of 100, 125, 160, 165, 200, 235, and 305 psig (0.69, 0.86, 1.10, 1.14, 1.38, 1.62, and 2.10 MPa), respectively, and have a nominal inside diameter in the rang
20、e of 14 to 48 inches. 1.4 Requirements for the installation and use of PVC pressure pipe and couplings are specied in the Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and their Appurtenances, NFPA 24 or the Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13. 2 Units of Measur

25、d as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 5 Glossary 5.1 For the purposes of this Standard, the following denitions apply. 5.2 GASKET SEATING AREA The section of pipe or coupling that is, or has the potential to be, in contact with the sealing surfaces of the gasket in intended
26、assemblies. 5.3 PIPE SIZE The nominal outside diameter of pipe that is compatible with cast iron pipe or steel pipe (IPS) of the same nominal size. 5.4 WORKING PRESSURE The maximum anticipated sustained pressure applied to the pipe exclusive of pressure surges. CONSTRUCTION 6 Materials 6.1 PVC pipe
27、and couplings shall: a) Be made from Cell Class 12454 virgin compounds, as dened in the Standard Specication for Rigid Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Compounds and Chlorinated Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Compounds, ANSI/ASTM D1784 except as allowed by 6.3; and b) Have an established hydrostatic-design
28、-basis (HDB) rating of 4000 psig (27.6 MPa) for water at 73.4F (23.0C). 6.2 PVCO pipe shall: a) Be made from Cell Class 12454 virgin compounds, as dened in the Standard Specication for Rigid Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Compounds and Chlorinated Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Compounds, ANSI/ASTM D1784
29、 except as allowed by 6.3; and b) After expansion, have an established hydrostatic-design-basis (HDB) rating of 7100 psig (49.0 MPa) for water at 73.4F (23.0C). 6.3 Noncontaminated PVC and PVCO pipe from the manufacturers production that is reground, or pelletized, and dry blended by the manufacture
30、r with the same grade and Cell Class of PVC virgin material, is not prohibited from being used provided that the blended material is of the same Cell Class of PVC pipe material and the nished product complies with the requirements of this standard. 6.4 The outside diameter of the pipe shall be compa
31、tible with the (OD) dimensions of cast-iron pipe. 32、ated in accordance with the dimension requirements in AWWA C905. 7 Pipe Joints 7.1 If a coupling is used to join the pipe ends, the coupling with sealing ring gaskets shall be furnished with each length of pipe. Each coupling shall be of the same composition, trade size, and Pressure Class as the pi
33、pe. 7.2 If a bell-and-spigot joint is used, a sealing gasket shall be furnished with each length of pipe. 8 Wall Thickness 8.1 For PVC pipe, the minimum wall thickness for each size and Pressure Class shall be as specied in the Standard for Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe and Fabricated Fitti
34、ngs, 4 In. Through 12 In. (100 mm Through 300 mm), for Water Transmission and Distribution, ANSI/AWWA C900, or the Standard for Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe and Fabricated Fittings, 14 Inches Through 48 Inches (350 mm Through 1,200 mm), for Water Transmission and Distribution , ANSI/AWWA C
35、905, whichever standard is appropriate. 8.2 For PVCO pipe, the minimum wall thickness for each size and Pressure Class shall be as specied in the Standard for Molecularly Oriented Polyvinyl Chloride (PVCO) Pressure Pipe, 4 in. Through 24 in. (100 mm Through 600 mm), for Water Distribution, ANSI/AWWA
36、 C909. 9 Imperfections 9.1 Pipe shall be homogeneous throughout and shall have no voids, cracks, inclusions, or other defects that impair the intended performance of the product. 9.2 Axial dents, gouges, bruises, tool marks, or grooves in the gasket seating area of a pipe section or coupling shall n
37、ot be deeper than 1/32 inch (0.8 mm). 10 Sealing Gaskets 10.1 A sealing gasket shall be made of a vulcanized natural rubber or a synthetic rubber compound and shall have uniform dimensions and sufficient thickness to provide a compression-like seal. 39、stomeric Parts 12.1 An elastomeric part used to provide a seal shall have the following properties when representative samples are tested as specied in the Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157: a) Single material and sealing (soft) portion of dual material gaskets: 1) Minimum tensile strength 2000
40、 psi (13.8 MPa), and minimum ultimate elongation 300 percent 1 to 4 inches (25.4 to 102 mm). 2) Maximum set of 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) when 1 inch (25.4 mm) marks are stretched to 3 inches (76.2 mm), held for 2 minutes, released, and measured 2 minutes after release. 3) Those properties relating to minim
41、um tensile strength and elongation after oven aging; and hardness after oven aging, all as specied in UL 157. The maximum service temperature used to determine the oven time and temperature for oven aging is 60C (140F). 4) The compression set of samples of rubber seals shall not exceed 20 percent of
42、 the original thickness after being compressed to three-fourths of the original thickness. b) Retaining (hard) portion of dual material gaskets: 1) Minimum tensile strength 1200 psi (8.3 MPa), and minimum ultimate elongation 125 percent 1 to 2.25 inches (25.4 to 57.2 mm). 2) Those properties relatin
43、g to minimum tensile strength and elongation after oven aging as specied in UL 157. The maximum service temperature used to determine the oven time and temperature for oven aging is 60C (140F). 44、THOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 13 Sealing Gaskets and Plastic Components 13.1 Sealing gaskets containing plastic components that are not fully encapsulated and are intended to function as an active component for the sealing gasket shall meet the requirements of this section. 13.2 Following air-oven aging
45、for 180 days at 121C (250F), there shall be no warping, creeping, or other signs of deterioration of a plastic component that may preclude the intended operation of the joint seal. There shall be no cracking of any plastic component. A joint with aged plastic components shall demonstrate acceptable
46、performance when subjected to the Leakage Test for Joints, Section 15 and the Assembly Test, Section 16. 13.3 A complete sealing gasket, including the plastic components to be aged are to be supported in a full-draft, circulating-air oven that has been preheated at full draft, to 121 1C (250 8F). Th
47、e manufacturer may exclude the elastomeric portion of the sealing gasket from aging. The manner of support is to be such that the samples are prevented from touching one another or the sides of the oven. The samples are to be aged for 180 days at full draft and then allowed to cool in air at 23 2C (
48、73.4 3.6F) for at least 24 hours before conducting any test or dimensional check. Prior to any tests, elastomeric components of the sealing gasket shall be added to the sealing gasket if not included in the aging test. As used in this test, the term full draft refers to the air ow over the samples i
49、n the oven with the air inlet and outlets fully open. The oven used for accelerated aging is to be Type IIA as specied in the Standard Specication for Gravity-Convection and Forced-Ventilation Ovens, ASTM E145. 13.4 If a plastic material cannot withstand the temperature indicated without softening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time may be used.
