3、ction / Paragraph Reference: 7.4 and 16ASubject: Fire Testing for Elastomer Lined Change in Direction Fittings for Use in DryPipe SystemsDECISION:Rubber gasketed fittings that are change in direction fittings, lined with an elastomeric material, andintended for use with dry pipe systems shall be sub

4、jected to fire testing. Change in direction fittings includefittings such as elbows and tees._7.4 Rubber gasketed fittings that are change in direction fittings, lined with an elastomeric material, andintended for use with dry pipe systems shall be subjected to the Fire Test indicated in 16A. Change

5、 indirection fittings include fittings such as elbows and tees.16A Fire Test16A.1 Rubber gasketed fittings designed as indicated in Section 7.4 intended for dry pipe systems shallbe subjected to fire testing in accordance with Test III and Test IV from the Fire Test Section 16 in UL852, Metallic Spr

6、inkler Pipe for Fire Protection Service with the following modifications:a) The pipe located directly above the fire shall have a joint such that the fitting under test iscentered directly above the fireb) Schedule 10 or schedule 40 pipe shall be usedc) There shall be no water in the fitting prior t

7、o the testd) The pipe size shall be the same size as the fittinge) The acceptance criteria is as described in Section 16A.2 below.16A.2 Subsequent to the fire test, the elastomeric lining shall be inspected, and shall not show evidenceof melting or deformation of the material internal to the waterwa

8、y. 9、ION:The 4th edition of UL 213 does not contain requirements to assess change in direction fittings with anelastomeric lining that are used in dry pipe systems. Fittings of designs such that the elastomeric lining iswithin the internal diameter of the water way pose a potential hazard of causing bloc

10、kage or flowrestriction if the gasket is damaged in a fire event on a dry pipe system. This Certification RequirementDecision provides fire evaluation requirements to assess unique designs that have an elastomeric liningacross the length of a change in direction fitting.Copyright 2016 Underwriters L
