、RMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1 effective November 11, 2002 1.1 The test method described in these requirements is intended to evaluate the re resistive performance of electrical cables as measured by functionality during a period of re exposure, and following exposure to a hose stream. 1.2

、To maintain the functionality of electrical cables during a re exposure the cables are tested using a re resistive barrier. The re resistive barrier is the cable jacketing if the jacketing is designed to provide re resistance. If the cable jacketing is not designed to provide re resistance, the elec

、trical cables are either placed within a re resistive barrier or installed within an hourly rated re resistive assembly (see 1.4). Fire resistive cables intended to be installed with a non-re resistive barrier (such as conduit) are tested with the non-re resistive barrier included as part of the tes

、t specimen. Otherwise re resistive cables incorporating a re resistive jacket are tested without any barrier. 1.3 To demonstrate each cables ability to function during the test, voltage and current are applied to the cable during the re exposure portion of the test, and the electrical and visual per

、formance of the cable is monitored. The cable is not energized during the hose spray, but it is visually inspected and electrically tested after the hose spray. 1.4 The functionality during a re exposure of non-re resistive electrical cables which are intended for installation within re barriers or

、for installation within hourly rated re resistive assemblies is determined by tests conducted in accordance with the UL Outline of Investigation for Fire Tests for Electrical Circuit Protective Systems, Subject 1724. 1.5 Two re exposures are dened: a normal temperature rise re and a rapid temperatur

、e rise re. The normal temperature rise re is intended to represent a fully developed interior building re. The rapid temperature rise re is intended to represent a hydrocarbon pool re. See 1.7. 1.6 Two hose stream exposures are dened: a normal impact hose stream and a low impact hose stream. The low

、 impact hose stream is applied only to cable intended to contain the identifying suffix CI to identify it as CI cable in accordance with the Standard for Cables for Power-Limited Fire-Alarm Circuits, UL 1424, and in accordance with the Standard for Cables for Non-Power-Limited Fire-Alarm Circuits, U

、L 1425. 1.7 The re exposure and hose stream tests are not intended to be representative of all re conditions. Conditions vary with changes in the amount, nature, and distribution of re loading: ventilation; compartment size and conguration; and heat conducting and dissipating characteristics of the

、compartment in which the re resistive cable is installed. These requirements provide a relative measure of re performance of comparable re resistive cables under the specied re exposure, hose stream and electrical conditions. 1.8 The results of these tests represent one factor in determining the acc

、eptability of re resistive cables for use in specic applications. Application of these test results to predict electrical performance of re resistive cables in actual installations requires careful evaluation. This test method is not to be interpreted as having determined the acceptability of cables

、 for use after re exposure. 34、fective November 11, 2002 3.1 For the purpose of this Standard the following denitions apply. 3.2 FIRE RESISTIVE CABLE An electrical cable that complies with the requirements of the UL standard for the type of cable to be tested and that meets the circuit integrity requirements described herein. 3.3

、 FIRESTOP SYSTEM A specic construction of materials intended to reduce the risk of the spread of re through an opening made in a re resistive structure for passage of penetrating items such as re resistive rated cables. 3.4 HORIZONTAL EXPOSURE FURNACE A test furnace with a horizontal supporting stru

、cture that functions as the top of the furnace enclosure. 3.5 TEST ASSEMBLY The re resistive cable and its means of securement, the restop system and any structure used to support the re resistive cable during the re and hose stream tests. 3.6 UTILIZATION VOLTAGE The maximum voltage anticipated duri

、ng intended usage such as typical line voltage of 120 volts, 240 volts and 480 volts. 3.7 UPRIGHT EXPOSURE FURNACE A test furnace typically used to measure the re resistive performance of column assemblies. 3.8 VERTICAL EXPOSURE FURNACE A test furnace with a vertical supporting structure that functi

、ons as a side of the furnace enclosure. 39、1 Each design of re resistive cable is to be tested. Examples of different cable designs include: a) Multi-conductor cables vs. single conductor cables b) Twisted vs. parallel conductors c) Shielded vs. unshielded conductors d) Cable with a bare ground wire vs. cable with an insulated ground wire e)

、 Stranded vs. solid conductors f) Lowest voltage rating vs. highest voltage rating. 4.2 The structure used in the conduct of the re test is to be constructed of material which offers support for the re resistive cable during the re and hose stream tests and which does not inuence the physical re per

、formance of the re resistive cable due to deection or falling debris. 4.3 The cables are to be installed as complete systems including splices when splices are provided as part of the cable system. When splices are included, the splices are to be located no closer than 12 (305 mm) from where the cab

、le enters the furnace chamber. Each cable is to include at least one bend of the smallest inside radius and two intermediate supports. The length of each re resistive cable exposed to the furnace re is to be not less than 9 feet, 10 inches (3.0 m). The cables are to terminate a maximum of 120 inches

、 (3.0 m) beyond the connes of the test furnace. The re resistive cable is not to be closer than 12 inches (305 mm) from the furnace edge. The following also applies: a) For cables intended to be marked with a “CI” suffix (see 1.6), the cable is to be installed without conduit as indicated in Orienta

、tion A in Figure 4.1. Unless supports are an integral part of the cable design, the cable supports are to be grounded steel wire eyebolts having a minimum internal diameter equal to 1.25 times the outer diameter of the cable. The diameter of the wire used to form the eyebolts it to be ” (12.7 6.4 mm

、). The eyebolts are to be spaced 24 1” (610 25.4 mm) on center. b) For cables not intended to be marked with a “CI” suffix (see 1.6), the span between at least two of the supports is to be such that the supports are at their maximum spacing. All supports are to be grounded. Three test sample install

、ation orientations are shown in Figure 4.1. The samples are to be installed in accordance with one of the orientations shown, that is, A, B or C. This is generated text for gtxt. 48、DUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 4.4 The re resistive cable samples are to include the: a) smallest conductor size b) minimum number of conductors c) minimum thickness of conductor insulation d) minimum insulation thickness between conductors e) minimum insulation thickness between

、 conductors and the outer jacket. The cable shall also include a grounding conductor and other non-power conductors. 4.5 Fire resistive cables that are subjected to the normal temperature rise re exposure (see 7.1) are to be either indoor or outdoor use cables. Fire resistive cables that are subjected to the rapid temperature rise re exposure are to be outdoor use cables. 4.6 Unless the rating is to be specied for a specic rest
