4、ser or installer with ordinary tools includingthose provided with the mounting system;b) An assembly or part intended to be cut to length, drilled or fitted by the installer may beprovided if means are furnished for joining any altered part to a companion part or assembly.The field altered part shal
5、l comply with the following:1) Mounting holes for connection to the building structure shall be factory produced.2) Electrical enclosures shall not be subjected to field cutting or drilling.3) An assembly where insulated conductors or cords are routed or pass through shallnot be cut or drilled unles
6、s a method of deburring a field cut or drilled hole is provided.A field installed bushing is acceptable if provided with the assembly. The bushing shallcomply with section 41 and not require a special tool to install unless provided with theassembly.4) Drilling is acceptable if:i) The drilling opera
7、tion does not weaken the assembly,ii) The size of the drill bit is specified and the instructions clearly describe thelocation or locations to be drilled.5) Cut and drilled edges shall not be exposed to the user after the operation has beenperformed unless they comply with section 45.6) The field cu

The fasteners and
10、 mounting hardware need not be provided if theinstallation instructions supplied by the manufacturer give complete details of the hardware tobe used (At a minimum, screws or bolts are to be identified by the size or diameter, length,thread size, material hardness when harder than grade 2 (class 4.6)
11、, and quantity; concrete ormasonry anchors are to identify the manufacturers name, size, and model number).INSTRUCTIONS72 General72.7 The instructions shall include particular details concerning:a) The parts required and the step-by-step process for installing the mounting system, includingmethods o
12、f their support, and the securing of the component parts to each other and themounting system to the building or intended support structure. Masonry anchors, drywallanchors, screws, bolts, lag bolts, or other fastening means required to secure parts are to bespecified by type, size diameter, length,
13、 thread, and the like, grade or tensile strength unlesssupplied by the mounting system manufacturer. Masonry and drywall anchors not supplied withthe mount shall be further specified by manufacturer and model number. Component partdescriptions shall be illustrated and described in written form, incl
14、uding accurate identification ofmajor parts such as the apparatus support members, building support interface members andany other critical securing components.b) The methods and precautions required to mount the system to the building or supportstructure and the parts required, including the framin
15、g of openings if required. Any requiredclearances shall be specified and illustrated.c) The materials or parts to be employed to secure the apparatus to the mounting system.d) The framing of openings in ceilings and floors and walls if required to comply with theserequirements.e) The methods and par
16、ts to be employed for maintaining ventilation and air circulation ifrequired.f) A field cut or drilled assembly shall comply with clause 49.1(b) and the instructions shall beillustrated and contain language that specifically identify the locations and limitations that aresuitable for cutting and dri
17、lling.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:There are parts of some mounting systems that it is reasonable for an installer in the field to modify. Aninstaller that has the tools and is capable of mounting the mounting system to the building structure shouldalso have the ability to shorten a bracket and add additi
18、onal holes for assembly of the mount. A typicalexample would be a ceiling mounted projector mount with a vertical column. The need to shorten thecolumn for a specific installation is not uncommon and occurs today without specific requirements in thestandard. The changes outlined above address this t
