3、ser based intrusion detection units.DECISION:Additional requirements to the existing standard used to investigate laser based intrusion detection unitsare shown below and designated as “New” text.4 Instruction and DrawingsNew 4.3 The installation instructions of equipment intended to be installed ou

4、tdoors shall indicate thatalarms triggered by conditions such as weather, blowing leaves and brush, or related environmentalconditions, etc., need to be considered when assessing the installation and application. The installationinstructions of outdoor type equipment shall recommend that the intrusi

5、on detection unit is not to beconnected to an alarm initiating circuit but may be connected to a trouble alarm circuit if nuisance tripsare not tolerable (or like statement).New 4.4 When intrusion detection units incorporate serviceable laser device(s) or serviceablecomponents, copies of user and se

6、rvicing information (operator and service manuals) for the product shallbe provided.New 4.5 Laser based intrusion detection units that provide user access for operation, maintenance, orservicing of the unit shall include a detailed list of the procedures to be performed for each function.New 4.7 The

7、 users manual for laser detectors shall provide information on the safety of the laser. Thisincludes, the class of the laser, Average power (AEL), wavelength, pulse width, emission period, andreference to the standard that was used to evaluate the laser, such as IEC 60825-1.7 Enclosure - (Laser base

8、d Detectors)New 7.1.15 Laser based products shall have a protective housing which, when in place, prevents physicalaccess or accidental exposure to laser radiation (including errant laser radiation) in excess of theaccessible emissions limits (AEL) for Class 1.New 7.1.16 Any parts of the housing or

9、enclosure of a laser product (including embedded laser products)that can be removed or displaced for service and which would allow access to laser radiation in excessof the AEL assigned and are not interlocked shall be secured in such a way that removal or displacementof the parts requires the use o

10、f a tool or tools.New 71A Movement Detector, Laser based DetectorsNew 71A.1 GeneralUL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULNew 71A.1.1 A laser type detector system shall produce optical radiation that covers a specific area anddetects

11、movement in accordance with Sensitivity and Range Tests and the manufacturers operating andinstallation instructions.New 71A.1.2 The laser device(s) use in the construction of the intrusion detection units shall comply withthe requirements of CDRH 21CFR Parts 1010 and 1040 dated 4-01-101 or of the S

12、tandard IEC 60825-1,Second Edition, 2007, for Class I Laser Radiation.New 71A.1.3 Laser type intrusion detection units shall comply with the marking requirements as outlinedin Section 72.12.New 71A.1.4 In addition to requirements of Section 23-55 (56 to 58 for outdoor unit), the following testsalso

13、shall apply to laser based detectors.New 71A.2 Visibility - Laser based DetectorsNew 71A.2.1 The laser source shall project a beam(s) outside of the visible spectrum, having awavelength less than 3800 Angstrom units (380 nm) or more than 7600 Angstrom Units (760 nm).New 71A.2.2 The laser beam shall

14、not be visible in a darkened room or smoky atmosphere.New 71A.2.3 The laser beam(s) shall not be visible shall not operate within 3800 Angstom Units (380nm) to 7600 Angstom Units (760 nm) when viewed at an angle of 15 degrees or more from the axis ofthe beam(s) under lighting conditions most favorab

15、le for viewing (eg. darkness).New 71A.3 Foreign light Laser based DetectorsNew 71A.3.1 A laser type intrusion detection unit shall not be affected by extraneous light impinging at 15degrees or more from the axis of the laser beam, when subjected to 71A.3.2 through 71A.3.5.New 71A.3.2 For compliance

16、with 71A3.1, a clear100-watt incandescent light bulb, energized from a120-volt, 60-hertz source, is to be positioned 5 feet (1.5 m) from the front of the detection unit and atdifferent angles (see 71A.3.1) to effectively attempt to interfere with the laser detector.New 71A.3.2.3 The conditions of 71

17、A3.2 shall be repeated using an automotive High Intensity Discharge(HID) Lamp while energized as intended by the HID lamp manufacturer.New 71A.3.4 The conditions of 71A3.2 shall be repeated using a fluorescent fixture with two 40-watt tubeswhile energized as intended.New 71A.3.5 The conditions of 71

18、A.3.2 shall be repeated using a minimum of three IR emitting LEDsource of at least the same wave length as the laser source(s) used in the intrusion detection unit. Theadditional IR LED sources shall be energized as intended and positioned at different angles (see 71A.3.1)to effectively attempt to i

19、nterfere with the laser detector.New 71A.4 Sensitivity Laser based DetectorsNew 71A.4.1 The laser type detector shall include provision for adjusting the sensitivity to intruder motion,area or distance range, or both, to cover areas of various sizes and configurations as intended by themanufacturer.

20、STANDARD NUMBER: UL 639 -2-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULNew 71A.4.2 For full area coverage, the detection unit is to be adjusted to detect a four-step or lessmovement of a person having a height of 62 - 73 inches (1.6 - 1.88

21、 m) and a weight of 170 60 pounds(77 27 kg), walking with arms crossed over the chest, with steps 30 3 inches (0.76 0.08 m) long at arate of one step per second throughout the area. Detection shall occur at least three out of four walk teststaken in random directions throughout the area.New 71A.4.3

22、If arranged to create channels or radiation, the system shall be capable of being adjusted sothat it will be initiated when a person, as described in 4.2, walks through the channel at any point withsteps 30 3 inches (0.76 0.08 m) long at a rate of one step per second. Detection shall occur in fourst

23、eps or less.New 71A.4.4 Direction of walk tests shall be in according with the recommended patterns outlined in themanufacturers installation instructions.New 71A.5 Range - Laser based detectorsNew 71A.5.1 The maximum effective range of a laser type intrusion detection unit shall be determined bythe

24、 method described in 71A.4.2 or 71A.4.3 or the manufacturer may specify a shorter distance.New 71A.6 Stability Laser based Detectors New71A6.1.1 While installed in the test area, and with the sensitivity setting, range setting, or both, equal toor more sensitive than that specified 71A.4.2 or 71A.4.

25、3, the intrusion unit shall comply with therequirements of the Stability Test, UL 639, Section 48.New 71A.6.2 When adjusted in accordance with 71A.4.2 or 71A.4.3, and installed according to themanufacturers installation instructions, the system shall not be affected by any movement outside of thephy

26、sical boundaries surrounding the area covered.New 71A.6.3 At normal sensitivity setting, range setting, or both, the system shall not be affected by anair movement of 300 feet per minute (1.52 m/s) caused by an 8-inch (203-mm) diameter portable fan withblades shrouded, placed 3 feet (0.9 m) below th

27、e detector, aimed across the face of the detectortransmitter, across the face of the detector receiver, or both, and cycled 5 minutes on and 5 minutes offfor a period of 1 hour. If false alarms are generated, markings on the unit or in the installation instructionsshall warn against use in turbulent

28、 air.New 71A6.4 At normal sensitivity setting, range setting, or both, the system shall not be affected by airturbulence caused by an electric heating coil rated 3 kilowatts placed approximately 3 feet (0.9 m) belowthe face of the detector transmitter, below the face of the detector receiver, or bot

29、h, and energized for 5minutes and de-energized for 25 minutes for a period of 3 hours. If false alarms are generated, markingson the unit or in the installation instructions shall warn against use in turbulent air. Ceiling units shall betested with and without deflectors, if deflectors are provided.

30、New 71A6.5 While operated according to the manufacturers instructions and at normal sensitivity setting,range setting, or both, the system shall not be affected by simulated fog conditions using a commercialfog generator. During the test the unit shall not false alarm. If the unit has provisions to

31、provide a warningsignal to indicate the unit requires attention (trouble, warning, etc., because of the exposure to the adverseconditions), such a signal is acceptable and shall activate when the obscuration exceeds 10 % per footobscuration measures at a distance of 2 feet from the device under test

32、New 71A6.6 While operated in accordance with the manufacturers installation instructions and at normalsensitivity setting, range setting, or both, the system shall not be affected by building vibrations orturbulence caused by operation of the buildings heating or cooling system.STANDARD NUMBER: UL

33、639 -3-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULNew 71A.7 Outdoor Use EquipmentNew 71A.7.1 In addition to the requirements of sections 57 (Rain Test) and 58 (Dust Test) the laserdevice shall be energized and monitored during the test. T

34、he unit shall not false alarm during the exposureconditions. If the unit has provisions to provide a warning signal to indicate the unit requires attention(trouble, warning, etc.) because of the exposure to the adverse elements, such a signal is acceptableduring the outdoor exposure tests.New 71A.7.

35、2 - External icing test - The laser detector shall be mounted in a room which can be cooled tominus 7C (20F). A metal test bar which is 25.4 mm in diameter by 600 mm long (1 inch in diameter and2 feet long) shall be mounted in a horizontal position in a location where it will receive the same genera

36、lwater spray as the detector under test. Provision shall be made for spraying the entire enclosure fromabove with water at an angle of approximately 45 degrees from the vertical. The water shall be between0C (32F) and 3C (37F). Spraying facilities which provide between 40 80 L/h/m2(1 2 gallons perho

37、ur per square foot) of area to be sprayed have been found effective. The room temperature shall belowered to 2C (35F). The spray of water shall be started and continued for at least 1 hour, maintainingthe room temperature between 1C (33F) and 3C (37F). At the end of this time, the room temperaturesh

38、all be lowered to between minus 7C (20F) and minus 3C (27F) while continuing the water spray.(The rate of change in the room temperature is not critical and shall be whatever is obtainable with thecooling means employed.) The water spray shall be controlled so as to cause ice to build up on the bara

39、t a rate of approximately 6.35 mm per hour (1/4 inch per hour) and shall be continued until 20 mm (3/4inch) of ice has formed on the top surface of the bar. The spray shall then be discontinued but the roomtemperature shall be maintained between minus 7C (20F) and minus 3C (27F) for 3 hours to assur

40、ethat all parts of the detector and ice coatings have been equalized to a constant temperature. The unitshall not false alarm during the exposure conditions. If the unit has provisions to provide a warning signalto indicate the unit requires attention (trouble, warning, etc) because of the exposure

41、to the adverseelements, such a signal is acceptable during the outdoor exposure tests.Marking Laser based DetectorsNew 72.12A The Laser devices and/or the Laser type intrusion detection units shall be marked withidentification and certification label complying with the requirements of the Standard I

42、EC 60825-1, SecondEdition, 2007, for Class I Laser Radiation or CDRH 1010 and 1040, including CDRH Laser Notice 50.New 72.12A.1 The marking is be located so that it is visible from the outside of the product.New 72.12A.2 Laser type detectors shall have the following statement marked on the product “

43、Caution -Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified in the installationand operating instructions may result in hazardous radiation exposure”.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:Currently, UL 639, Intrusion Detection Units, does not specify requirements for investigati

44、ng intrusiondetection units using laser technology as the detection source.
