21、uded straight rigid Schedule 40 high density PE (polyethylene) electrical conduit and thefollowing fittings for use with this conduit type:1) Elbows and2) Rigid high density PE couplings.b) Schedule 40, Schedule 80, EPEC-A, and EPEC-B coilable, smooth-wall continuous lengthhigh density PE electrical

22、 conduit.1.2 The conduit and fittings mentioned in 1.1 are intended for use at 50C (122F) and lower ambienttemperatures. Extruded straight rigid Schedule 40 conduit and fittings, where directly buried or encased inconcrete in trenches outside of buildings, may be used with 90C (194F) wiring.1.3 The

23、conduit and fittings covered in these requirements are intended for use as rigid nonmetallicraceway for wires and cables in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.1.4 Extruded straight rigid Schedule 40, Schedule 40, Schedule 80, EPEC-A, and EPEC-B coilableconduit is for aboveground u

26、de or standard.CONSTRUCTION3 General3.1 All conduit and fittings shall be made and furnished with the degree of uniformity and quality ofworkmanship that are practicable in a well-equipped factory. The following materials shall be used asspecified in the Standard Specification for Polyethylene Plast

27、ics Pipe and Fittings Materials, ASTM D3350:a) For straight rigid conduit and couplings and other fittings the material compound equal orexceed the cell classification PE 33662OC;b) For Schedule 40, Schedule 80, EPEC-A, and EPEC-B coilable conduit, the compoundmaterial shall equal or exceed the cell

28、 classification PE334420C or E.3.2 Conduit shall be essentially circular in cross section. The inside surface of conduit shall be withoutindentations (normal convolutions are not to be considered as indentations), projections, roughness, orother features that could damage or impede wires and cables

29、being pulled into the conduit.3.3 Conduit and fittings shall provide a smooth raceway for the pulling in of wires and cables. They shallnot have any features that can abrade or otherwise damage wires and cables. The outside surfaces ofconduit and fittings shall be smooth and without any chips, blist

30、er, cracks, or other defects. There shallnot be any tendency for conduit or fittings to peel, scale, flake chalk, or crumble.3.4 Both ends of each length of conduit shall be perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the conduit.3.5 Each length of conduit on which measurements are made is to be finis

31、hed, smooth and cleanwherever it is to touch any part of a measuring device or tool. While measurements are being made, theconduit and the air around it are to be in thermal equilibrium with one another at a temperature of 23.02.0C (73.4 3.6F). All of the average and individual outside diameter meas

42、re to be determined for comparison with the limitsspecified in inches in Table 4.1 or in millimeters in Table 4.2 are to be made by means of a:a) Machinists micrometer caliper that has a flat-ended spindle, a flat anvil, and is calibrated toread directly to at least 0.001 inch or 0.01 mm;b) Vernier

46、and measurement techniques may be employed to determinecompliance with the above dimensional requirements provided they are accurate to within 0.001 inch(0.01 mm).4.9 To determine the average outside diameter when using a micrometer caliper or vernier caliper, atleast four measurements (every 45 deg

47、rees) are necessary at each place to make certain that the largestand smallest diameters are found. The average of all the recorded diameters is to be determined andcompared with the average diameter in inches in Table 4.1 or in millimeters in Table 4.2 for the trade sizeof conduit involved. The ave

48、rage of the recorded diameters shall not differ from the average diameter inthe applicable table by more than the specified tolerances.4.10 To determine the average outside diameter when using vernier wrap tape, place the vernier wraptape around the conduit making sure that it is at right angles to

49、the conduit axis and is flat against theconduit surface. The observed reading is to be compared with the average diameter in inches in Table4.1 or in millimeters in Table 4.2 for the trade size of conduit involved. The observed reading shall notdiffer from the average diameter in the applicable table by more than the specified tolerances.4.11 To determine the average outside diameter when using a tapered sleeve gauge or sleeve windowgauge, cut the end of the conduit square and remove burrs.
