3、ntrollersDECISION:(new)4.3.1 Direct Plug-In Controller An electric fence controller for indoor use only with a single output whichemploys a blade assembly on the enclosure for connection to the branch circuit. The controller may beprovided with output wiring or wire binding screws intended for conne

4、ction to solid wire. Not considereda direct plug-in power supply that is detachable from the electric fence controller.(new section)10.4 Direct Plug-In Controllers10.4.1 The integral blade assembly of direct plug-in controllers shall comply with the constructionrequirements in the Standard for Attac

5、hment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498, and Wiring Devices Dimensional Specifications, ANSI/NEMA WD6, for a 125 V, 15 A, 2 pole, 3 wire, grounded typeconfiguration, and shall not be retractable. See 10.4.7 and 10.4.8.Exception: A fence controller complying with Supplement SA for double insulation shall

6、 be provided witha 125 V, 15 A, 2 pole, two wire type configuration.10.4.2 If a direct plug-in controllers employs a manually operated line connected single-pole switch or afuse with an accessible contact, it shall employ a polarized- or grounding-type blade assembly.10.4.3 The maximum acceptable mo

7、ment, center of gravity, dimensions, and weight of a direct plug-incontroller shall comply with the following requirements, see 10.4.4:a) The quotient of WY/Z shall not exceed 48 ounces (1361 g);b) The quotient of WY/S shall not exceed 48 ounces (1361 g);c) The product of WX shall not exceed 80 ounc

12、lief means is outside the enclosure.b) For controllers with directly mounted accessories, the values are to be measured with theaccessories in place.c) An integral tab is not to be included in measurements of the linear dimensions for thepurpose of determining moments unless:1) The tab and enclosure

13、 withstand the impact described in Section 30 with one impacton the tab itself, without deformation; and2) For a polymeric enclosed controller having an integral tab, the tab and enclosure donot distort at temperatures to which the material may be subjected under conditions ofnormal and abnormal use

14、 as determined by the mold stress relief distortion test in theStandard for Polymeric Materials - Use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations, UL 746C.10.4.5 When inserted in a duplex receptacle, no part of a direct plug-in controller, including an integral tabor output wiring, shall interfere with full

15、 insertion of an attachment plug into the adjacent receptacle. 18、structed so that thecontroller may be mounted to both grounding and nongrounding receptacles; andc) A mounting tab does not serve as ground.10.4.7 The enclosure of a controller shall be capable of being gripped for removal from the receptacle towhich it is connected, and the perimeter of the face se

19、ction from which the blades project shall not be lessthan 0.20 inch (5.1 mm) from any point on either blade. In order to determine compliance with thisrequirement for controllers with rounded edges, the perimeter of the face section is considered to be thepoint at which the articulate probe is able

20、to access as shown in Figure 10.4.4.10.4.8 With reference to 10.4.7, for an extension from the face for mechanical support of the bladesprovided as shown in Figure 10.4.3, the point of measurement shall be determined by application of thearticulate probe, Figure 10.4.5, as shown in Figure 10.4.4.Thi

24、ion)36A Direct Plug-In Tests36A.1 General36A.1.1 Direct plug-in controllers of 10.4 shall comply with 36A.2 36A.6. See 10.4.4(c)(1).36A.2 Blade Secureness Test36A.2.1 Each blade and the grounding pin, if provided, shall withstand a direct pull of 20 pounds-force (89N) for 2 minutes without loosening

The two blades tested together shall also withstand a direct pull of 20pounds for 2 minutes without loosening.36A.2.2 To determine whether a controller complies with the requirement in 36A.2.1, it is to be supportedon a horizontal steel plate with the blades projecting downward through a hole havi

26、ng a diameter sufficientonly to permit the blades to pass through it. A 20-pound (9.1-kg) weight is to be supported by each bladeand the grounding pin, if provided, in succession and then by the two blades tested together. In acontroller of nonrigid construction for example, a controller of soft mol

27、ded material the displacementof either blade shall not exceed 3/32 inch (2.4 mm) measured 2 minutes after removal of the weight.36A.3 Security of Input Contacts Test36A.3.1 The plug-in blades and the grounding pin shall not loosen to a degree that introduces a risk offire or electric shock as a resu

28、lt of the tests described in 36A.3.2 and 36A.3.3.36A.3.2 A controller is to be rigidly supported in the blades-up position. Each blade, in turn, is to beindividually subjected to a force of 30 pounds-force (133 N) applied gradually along the longitudinal axisof the blade in a direction towards the f

29、ace of the controller. The 30 pounds-force is to be maintained for1 minute.36A.3.3 The sample used in 36A.3.2 is to be retested by being positioned as described in 36A.3.2 andsubjecting both blades and the grounding pin, if provided, in combination, to a single applied force of 40pounds-force (178 N

30、) for 1 minute.36A.4 Security of Output Connectors Test36A.4.1 For a controller provided with wire-binding terminals as output connectors, a terminal or terminalstud shall not turn or cause stress on internal connections when subjected to the test of 36A.4.2.36A.4.2 The appropriate torque specified

31、in Table 36A.4 is to be applied for 10 seconds to the terminalsin a direction tending to tighten them. 33、er.36A.4.4 To determine compliance with 36A.4.3, accessories are to be attached and detached from thecontroller 100 times and the connectors examined.36A.5 Rod Pressure36A.5.1 Any point on the product that is accessible to the rod described in 36A.5.2 shall be subjected toa force of 20 pounds-force

34、(89 N) for 1 minute.36A.5.2 The force specified in 36A.6.1 is to be increased from 0 to 20 pounds-force (0 to 89 N) over aperiod of 5 seconds applied through the axis of a 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) diameter metal rod, having a flatcontact end with the edge rounded to a radius of 1/32 inch (0.8 mm) to elimi

35、nate sharp edges. The forceis then to be maintained at 20 pounds for 1 minute. The axis of the rod is to be perpendicular to thesurface under test. During the test, the controller is to rest on a flat surface in any convenient position,and is to be energized. Shock current between the enclosure and

36、earth, and between any parts of theenclosure between which such currents may exist, are to be monitored. The instrumentation used is to bethat described in 24.5.36A.5.3 Following the rod pressure test, the controller is to be subjected to the Dielectric VoltageWithstand Test, Section 27, and to an e

37、xamination for evidence of the development of a risk of electricshock.36A.6 Resistance to Crushing36A.6.1 One sample of the controller shall withstand for 1 minute a steady crushing force of 75pounds-force (334 N) applied at right angles to the mounting surfaces. The enclosure is to be testedbetween

38、 two parallel, flat, hardwood blocks, each not less than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) thick. One block is tocontain slots into which the blades of the device are to be fully inserted. The crushing force is to be appliedgradually in a direction normal to the mounting surface.(new)40.6 A direct plug-in unit hav

39、ing a mounting tab for semipermanent mounting shall be marked on theunit, a marking tag, or an instruction sheet packed with the unit with the signal word of 52.1 and thefollowing mounting instructions or the equivalent:a) “Risk of Electric Shock Disconnect power to the receptacle before installing

40、or removingthe unit. 41、 PERMISSION FROM ULc) “Secure unit in place by receptacle cover screw.”RATIONALE FOR DECISION:The Standard for Electric Fence Controllers, UL 69 presently contemplates cord connected constructions.Manufacturers now are pursuing direct plug-in designs similar to power supplies used with informationte

42、chnology equipment, battery chargers, etc.The construction, mechanical performance, and instruction requirements are derived from the Standardfor Class 2 Power Supplies, UL 1310 which addresses direct plug-in constructions.A definition of a direct plug-in controller is included to distinguish that t

43、hese requirements do not apply todirect plug-in power supplies that are detachable from the fence controller. The definition alsocontemplates indoor use only applications. Further requirement develop is needed to contemplate outdooruse applications.These requirements represent present practice.Copyr
