3、equirements for Lightning Protection Systems, UL 96A, to incorporate the proposals dated February 10, 2014 and June 5, 2014. These proposals include the following: Addition of paragraph 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 to Scope section to clarify a partial system. Addition of paragraph 1.2.3 to Scope section regardi

4、ng adjacent structures. Addition of paragraphs 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 to Scope section to clarify walkways. Addition of denition of an adjacent structure to section 5. Revision of Figure 5.2 to include at roof types. Addition of exception to paragraph 7.5 covering copper conductors. 12 inch up hill rise al

5、lowed at through roof assemblies. Addition of paragraph 10.4.4 covering grounding to a bus bar. Revision to the bonding denition. Text that has been changed in any manner or impacted by ULs electronic publishing system is marked with a vertical line in the margin. Changes in requirements are marked

6、with a vertical line in the margin and are followed by an effective date note indicating the date of publication or the date on which the changed requirement becomes effective. The revised requirements are substantially in accordance with Proposal(s) on this subject dated February 10, 2014 and June

24、ON 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover the installation of lightning protection systems on all types of structures other than structures used for the production, handling, or storage of ammunition, explosives, ammable liquids or gases, and other explosive ingredients including dust. 1.2 These requi

25、rements apply to lightning protection systems that are complete and cover all parts of a structure. Partial systems are not covered by this standard. 1.2.1 These requirements shall not apply to adjacent structures. 1.2.1 added August 12, 2014 1.2.2 Adjacent structures shall be considered separate st

31、.4 These requirements do not cover lightning protection components, which are covered by the Standard for Lightning Protection Components, UL 96. 2 Components 2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.2

32、A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 2.3 A component shall be used in accordance w

33、ith its rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.4 Specic components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and s

34、hall be used only under those specic conditions. 2.5 Components utilized in the installation of a lightning protection system covered by this standard shall comply with the Standard for Lightning Protection Components, UL 96 or other applicable UL Standards. 37、purpose of this standard, the following denitions apply. 5.1.1 ADJACENT STRUCTURE A structure that is physically separated by a re wall or greater than six feet of distance separating it from a structure with lightning protection. 5.1.1 added August 12, 2014 5.2 AIR TERMINAL A type of strike termina

38、tion device intentionally installed for the purpose of intercepting lightning ashes. These items are sometimes referred to as lightning rods. 5.3 BONDING (POTENTIAL EQUALIZATION) An electrical connection between an electrically conductive object and a component of a lightning protection system with

39、a secondary or main-size conductor intended to signicantly reduce potential differences created by lightning currents in the main lightning conductors and other grounded metal objects. 5.3 revised August 12, 2014 5.4 BUILDINGS: a) Ordinary Building A building of common or conventional construction u

40、sed for ordinary purposes, whether commercial, farm, industrial, institutional, or residential. b) Class I Ordinary Building A building that is not more than 75 feet (22.9 m) high. c) Class II Ordinary Building A building that is more than 75 feet (22.9 m) high or greater. d) Metal-Clad Building A b

41、uilding with either sides or roof made of or covered with sheet metal. e) Metal-Framed Building A building with electrically continuous framing of sufficient size and conductivity to be used as part of the lightning protection system. 5.5 CHIMNEY A smoke or vent stack not meeting the requirements of

42、 a heavy-duty stack. 5.6 CONDUCTOR The portion of a lightning protection system intended to transfer lightning discharge currents between strike termination devices and ground or to provide potential equalization between conductive bodies in/on the structure. a) Main Conductor A conductor intended t

43、o conduct primary lightning currents that interconnects strike termination devices with grounding electrodes. 46、, brazing, compression tting or suitable bonding plate. 5.7.1 added January 31, 2014 5.8 FASTENER An attachment to secure a conductor to a structure. 5.8.1 GALVALUME An aluminum coated sheet steel product. It is comprised of 55% aluminum, 1.6% silicon and 43.4% zinc. The coating is applied to the ba

47、se metal in a continuous hot dip method. The product is described in ASTM-792, coating classes of AZ 50, AZ 55 and AZ 60. 49、ical contact with the earth. 5.11 GROUNDED Connected to earth, or to a conductive material that is connected to earth, so that electric charges are distributed freely to the earth. 5.12 LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM A complete system of strike termination devices, conductors, grounding electrodes, interconnecting conductors, surge protective devices, connectors or ttings. 5.13 LOOP CONDUCTOR A conductor: a) That encircles a structure; and b) That is
