9、ISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover adapters, couplings and fittings intended for use with natural gas,manufactured gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas), and mixtures thereof, or anhydrous ammonia formaking connections in domestic, commercial, or in

10、dustrial types of systems. Devices that have beenidentified are as follows:a) Adapters and fittings, which include those that convert one connection to another;b) Excess flow and check valve adapters and fittings;c) Filling adapters;d) Gauge adapter and fittings;e) Quick-Connect Couplings (other tha

11、n for low pressure couplings in accordance with theStandard for Quick Disconnect Devices for Use with Gas Fuel Appliances, CSA/ANSI Z21.41;f) Sight flow indicators;g) Breakaway couplings;h) Thermal shutoff adapters and fittings; andi) Unloading adapters.1.2 Devices covered by these requirements are

12、intended for use in systems and facilities covered in oneof the following:a) National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54;b) Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, NFPA 58;c) American National Standard Safety Requirements for the Storage and Handling ofAnhydrous Ammonia, ANSI/CGA G-2.1 (ANSI K61.1); ord) Standard on Recr

13、eational Vehicles, NFPA 1192.1.3 Adapters, couplings and fittings for LP-Gas engine fuel service are covered by the Outline ofInvestigation for LP-Gas, Natural Gas, and Manufactured Gas Devices for Engine Fuel Systems, UL 1337.1.4 These requirements do not apply to adapters, couplings or fittings fo

14、r anhydrous ammonia for use oncontainers or in systems for the following:a) Refrigerated storage systems,b) Ammonia manufacturing plants,c) Refrigeration plants where ammonia is used solely as a refrigerant, andd) Ammonia transportation pipelines.APRIL 14, 2016 UL 119 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AU

15、THORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL2 General2.1 Components2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requ

16、irement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse

17、.2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.2.1.5 Ad

18、apters for actuated liquid withdrawal excess flow valves shall comply with the applicablerequirements of the Standard for Flow Control Valves for Anhydrous Ammonia and LP-Gas, UL 125.2.1.6 Adapters fittings and couplings used in LP-Gas or anhydrous ammonia filling applications thatincorporate a fixe

19、d liquid level gauge shall comply with the Seat Leakage Test, Section 19, and the Shutoffand Vent Valve Endurance Test, Section 23.2.1.7 Adapters fittings and couplings used with filler valves for LP-Gas or anhydrous ammonia service,which incorporate a check valve, shall comply with the applicable r

20、equirements of the Standard forStandard for Flow Control Valves for Anhydrous Ammonia and LP-Gas, UL 125.2.1.8 Gauging devices, including fixed tube and vent valve indicators, used in the assembly of adapters,fittings, or couplings shall comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Li

21、quid-LevelGauges and Indicators for Anhydrous Ammonia and LP-Gas, UL 565.2.1.9 A pigtail or flexible hose connection that is part of an adapter, or coupling for LP-Gas shall complywith the applicable requirements of the Standard for Pigtails and Flexible Hose Connectors for LP-Gas,UL 569.APRIL 14, 2

23、 or standard.2.3 Units of measurement2.3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.2.4 Pressure rating2.4.1 Adapters, couplings and fittings that are intended for use with liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas), oranhydrous amm

24、onia and are intended to be connected directly to containers or container appurtenancesshall be rated for use at a pressure not less than 250 psig. Devices intended to be used downstream ofa LP-Gas pump, or dispensing unit shall be rated for use at a pressure not less than 350 psig.2.4.2 Adapters, c

25、ouplings and fittings that are intended for use with natural gas, liquefied petroleum (LP)gases in the gaseous phase and LP-Gas-air mixtures shall be rated for 1/2, 2, 5 psig or higher than 5 psigin 5 psi increments up to and including a maximum operating pressure of 125 psig.2.4.3 Devices other tha

26、n noted in 2.4.1 and 2.4.2 shall be rated not less than the pressure rating of thepiping system to which they are intended to be installed.2.5 Temperature rating2.5.1 Adapters, couplings and fittings that are intended for use with LP-Gas or anhydrous ammonia at apressure greater than 20 psig shall b

27、e rated for outdoor use. All other devices may be rated for indoor oroutdoor use.2.5.2 Outdoor use shall include an ambient temperature range not less than the range of minus 40F(minus 40C) 130F (55C).2.5.3 Indoor use shall include an ambient temperature range not less than the range of 32F (0C) 125

29、er.3.3 BODY The principal structure of the device that contains and supports internal mechanisms andconstitutes the main gas passage.3.4 BREAKAWAY COUPLING A coupling that incorporates a weak section that is designed tofracture when a sufficient force is applied.3.5 BYPASS A passageway, orifice, or

30、path that permits fluid flow entirely independent of the actionof a mechanism or valve.3.6 CHECK VALVE, BACKPRESSURE A device that permits fluid flow in only one direction.3.7 CONNECTION That part of the device that mates with the piping system component, e.g. valve,regulator, hose assembly, another

31、 fitting or adapter, or piping component.3.8 EXCESS FLOW MECHANISM (VALVE) A device that is in an open position and closes when aspecified amount of flow (liquid or vapor) is obtained.3.9 GAUGING DEVICE A device that measures either pressure or liquid level in a container orpiping system. Pressure t

32、ype gauging devices may be considered leak detectors by indicating pressureloss in a piping system between two shutoff valves.3.10 LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LP-GAS OR LPG) Any material having a vapor pressure notexceeding that allowed for commercial propane that is composed predominantly of the follo

33、winghydrocarbons, either by themselves (excluding propylene) or as mixtures: propane, propylene, butane(normal butane or isobutane) and butylenes.3.11 QUICK CONNECT DEVICE A device that consists of two parts, which provides a means formanually connecting and disconnecting components of a piping or h

34、ose system or appliance, withoutthe use of tools.3.12 SIGHT FLOW INDICATOR A device that incorporates a means to visually inspect liquid flowconditions.3.13 THERMAL SHUTOFF VALVE A device that is in an open position and closes when the deviceis exposed to a specified temperature.3.14 TOOL, SPECIAL T

36、ON WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULCONSTRUCTION4 General4.1 Features or special constructions not outlined herein shall be evaluated using other publishedstandards and requirements as appropriate.5 Assembly5.1 An adapter, fitting or coupling shall include all the components required for its normal functio

37、n.5.2 When an adapter, fitting or coupling is of a design that requires the use of special pipe flanges,gaskets, bolts, or other special parts to create a proper installation, such parts shall be furnished by themanufacturer with each device.Exception: Each portion of a quick connect coupling can be

38、 provided separately.5.3 Adapters, fittings and couplings shall be constructed to discourage disassembly in the field beyondthat needed for regular maintenance.5.4 Parts of adapters, fittings or couplings that come in contact with a diaphragm shall not have sharpedges that may damage it.5.5 Manual s

39、hutoff valves that are incorporated into adapters and couplings shall comply with therequirements of the Standard for Flow Control Valves for Anhydrous Ammonia and LP-Gas, UL 125.5.6 An adapter shall not be constructed with a CGA V-1 Standard Connection No. 510, 555, or 791 nippleand nut assembly, o

40、r a Connection No. 810 plug on one end and a Connection 600 valve outlet assemblyon the other end.6 Excess Flow Mechanisms6.1 An excess flow mechanism shall be constructed with mechanical means that will prevent gas flow inexcess of the manufacturers specified maximum flow rate at maximum inlet oper

41、ating pressure atstandard conditions.6.2 An excess flow mechanism for natural gas service, liquefied petroleum (LP) gases in the gaseousphase and LP-Gas-air mixtures not exceeding 1/2 psig shall incorporate an automatic reset feature thatresets only when designed to do so.6.3 An excess flow mechanis

42、m in a Type I (CGA 791) or Type II (CGA 810) cylinder connection shallcomply with the Standard for Adapters and Cylinder Connection Devices for Portable LP-Gas CylinderAssemblies, UL 2061.6.4 An excess flow mechanism for use with LP-Gas or anhydrous ammonia at a pressure of 250 psig orgreater shall

44、anual resetfeature.6.6 An excess flow mechanism that incorporates a bypass shall have a bypass area not to exceed thatof a No. 60 size drill (0.040 inch diameter).7 Quick Connect Couplings and Adapters7.1 Quick connect couplings shall be equipped with an automatic means to shut off the fluid supply,

45、 suchas a resilient seat check valve, when the two parts of the device are disconnected. A check valve mayalso be provided in the downstream portion.7.2 Quick connect couplings for natural, manufactured and mixed gases, or LP-Gas not exceeding 1/2 psi(3.5 kPa) shall comply with the applicable requir

46、ements of Quick Disconnect Devices for Use With GasFuel Appliances, CSA/ANSI Z21.41.7.3 Adapters, fittings or couplings that incorporate a CGA V-1 Standard Connection No. 791 or 810components shall comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Adapters and CylinderConnection Devices fo

47、r Portable LP-Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 2061.Exception No. 1: Filling adapters are permitted to incorporate the profile dimensions of a CGA StandardV-1, Connection Nos. 791 or 810, without having thermal shutoff or excess flow valve components.Exception No. 2: An adapter that incorporates a CGA V-

48、1 Standard Connection No. 791 nipple/couplingnut on one end and a No. 791 valve outlet on the other end shall only be required to incorporate a checkvalve in the No. 791 valve outlet portion of the adapter.8 Thermal Shutoff Devices8.1 Thermal shutoff mechanisms in adapters, fittings, and couplings,

49、other than those incorporated into aCGA Standard V-1, Connection Nos. 791 or 810, shall be of such a design that once activated shall closeand not re-open to allow flow.9 Sight Flow Indicators9.1 Glass covering an opening shall be of the non-shattering or tempered type, secured in place so thatit cannot be readily displaced in service, and shall have a minimum thickness of 1/16 inch (1.6 mm).9.2 Glass shall be provided with self-closing mechanical protection or shall be able to withstand a 5 ft-lb(22.2 N) impact without cracking or breaking
