8、LINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover hand-operated pumps intended to handle flammable and combustibleliquids.1.2 These pumps are intended to be attached to a threaded flange in the head or side of a barrel, drum,or other similar container.1.3 “Flammable and combustible liquids” as used h

17、ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULCONSTRUCTION4 Assembly4.1 The construction of a pump shall be such that parts can be assembled in the intended manner afterbeing dismantled to the extent needed for replacement of parts or for other maintenance or servicing.4.2 When a pump requires the use of
18、 special pipe flanges, gaskets, bolts, or other special fittings or partsfor making connections, such parts shall be furnished as part of the pump assembly.4.3 A product shall be formed and assembled so that it will have the strength and rigidity necessary toresist the abuses to which it is likely t
19、o be subjected, without resulting in a risk of injury to persons due tototal or partial collapse, loosening or displacement of parts, or other serious defects.5 Materials5.1 A metal part to be used for bodies or closures shall be iron, steel, brass, aluminum, or other similarmaterial, inherently res
20、istant to the action of the liquid to be handled. Other parts in contact with the liquidto be handled shall be resistant to the action of such liquid when malfunction of the part results in:a) Leakage;b) Malfunction of equipment attached to the pump; orc) A risk of injury to persons.5.2 An elastomer
21、ic part used in contact with liquid or vapor shall have the properties of Volume Changeand Extraction as specified in the requirements in the Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157, forend-use applications of the applicable fuels shown in 1.3.Exception No. 1: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is consid
22、ered to comply with the requirements of thisparagraph.Exception No. 2: When an elastomeric part does not comply with the requirements described in 5.2, thepump assembly shall be evaluated in accordance with the Immersion Test, Section 21.5.3 The Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157, provides for t
23、he testing of either finished elastomericparts or sheet or slab material. Sheet or slab material is to be tested when the elastomeric parts areO-rings having a diameter of less than 25 mm (1 in). The material tested is to be the same as that usedin the product, regardless of whether finished elastom
24、eric parts, or sheet or slab material is tested.5.4 A plastic part of a pump that comes in contact with fluid or vapor, and whose malfunction results inthe hazards specified in 5.1, shall comply with the Dimensional Stability Test, Section 22.5.5 Sand castings used in the construction of liquid conf

Surfaces subject to injury in storage, handling, or assembly shall be hot-dip galvanized.Where outer walls of ferrous castings are not less than 1/4 inch in thickness and have been proven bytest to be free from leaks and porosity, the surfac
29、es are not required to be coated.5.8 All exposed metal parts susceptible to corrosion shall be well painted if not otherwise coated to retardcorrosion.6 Bodies, Covers, and Heads6.1 A pump body assembly shall withstand the deformation test requirements specific in DeformationTest, Section 20.6.2 Plu
30、gs and other parts, other than cap screws and bolts threaded into non-corrosion resistant ferrousparts of the pump, shall be of corrosion resistant metal or provided with a protective coating when theyare required to be removed for adjustment and repair, or other care of the pump.6.3 A bolt or a scr

32、ments in the Endurance Test, Section 17.7.2 The stuffing box recess shall be such that packing material does not come into contact with screwthreads.7.3 An adjustable stuffing box, when guarded or not accessible, or when clearly visible to the operator,shall be provided with a spring-loaded follower
33、 gland or the equivalent.7.4 An automatic spring take-up for a gland shall employ a spring made of corrosion resistant materialor coated to retard corrosion.7.5 The physical characteristics of a take-up spring shall be such that it advances the gland through notless than one-half its possible travel
34、 from its initial setting with the spring compressed.8 Diaphragm8.1 A metal part coming in contact with a diaphragm shall have no sharp edges, burrs, projections, orsurfaces that are capable of chafing or abrading the diaphragm.8.2 A pump, in which a flexible diaphragm, bellows, or similar construct
35、ion constitutes the only fluid seal,shall be constructed such that the atmospheric side of the diaphragm or bellows is enclosed in a casingconstruction to reduce external leakage in the event of diaphragm or bellows rupture, or shall haveprovisions for the connection of pipe or tube that will vent t
36、o the outdoors or an area determined to beequivalent.9 Springs9.1 A spring shall be guided and arranged to reduce binding, buckling, or other interference with its freemovement. When required, ends of a spring shall be closed and squared.10 Guards10.1 A gear, belt, pulley, or other rotating part sha

38、rd for Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch),ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.11.2 Pipe shall be standard full weight (ASTM Schedule 40) wrought iron or steel, or iron pipe size brassor copper pipe. Malleable iron, steel, brass or copper fittings shall be used. A union, when used, shall beof the ground joint type o
39、r a part that has been determined to be equivalent.11.3 A threaded pipe connection shall be made with litharge and glycerine cement, shellac, shellac andinert powder filler, or a gasoline-resistant pipe joint sealing compound.12 Hose and Couplings12.1 When a hose assembly, consisting of a hose and c
40、ouplings, is supplied with the pump assembly, itshall have nonferrous couplings attached and comply with the Standard for Gasoline Hoses, UL 330.PROTECTION AGAINST INJURY TO PERSONS13 General13.1 If the operation and maintenance of a product by the user involves a risk of injury to persons, meanssha
41、ll be provided to reduce the risk.13.2 When judging a product with respect to the requirement in 13.1, consideration shall be given toreasonably foreseeable misuse of the product.13.3 Specific constructions, tests, markings, guards, and the like are detailed for some commonconstructions. Specific fe
42、atures and products not covered herein are to be examined and tested todetermine whether they are acceptable for the purpose.14 Sharp Edges14.1 An enclosure, frame, guard, handle, or the like shall not be sufficiently sharp to constitute a risk ofinjury to persons in normal maintenance and use.Excep

44、and specific design of pump is to be subjected to the testsdescribed in these requirements. Additional samples of parts constructed of nonmetallic materials arerequired for physical and chemical tests.15.2 Water or kerosene is to be used for developing the required pressures in a leakage test of liq
45、uidconfining parts or hydrostatic pressure test. All hydrostatic pressures are to be maintained for at least 1minute, unless otherwise noted.15.3 Endurance tests are to employ kerosene, or the equivalent, as the test medium.16 External Leakage Test16.1 There shall be no indication of leakage before
46、or after the test described in 16.2 and 16.3.16.2 Kerosene shall be used as the test fluid for this test. The outlet of the pump is to be blocked and thepump is to be filled completely with kerosene.16.3 The pump is then gradually pressurized from 0 psi to 50 psi through the inlet and the pump isvis
47、ually inspected for signs of leakage.17 Endurance Test17.1 A hand pump shall be capable of withstanding an endurance test, using kerosene, for the durationshown in Table 17.1. There shall be no evidence of excessive wear on parts and the pump shall complywith the External Leakage Test, Section 16, a

49、M UL18 Electrical Continuity Test18.1 If a hose assembly is provided, it shall be subjected to the test in 18.2.18.2 A sample of the hose assembly is to be connected to a section of representative pipe. While at zeropressure, the electrical continuity from the end of the hose assembly to the pipe immediately after thecoupling is to be measured. The hose is to be filled with kerosene and pressurized to 38 psi and themeasurement repeated.18.3 The measured resistance shall not exceed 0.5 megohms.19 Hydrostatic Strength Tes
