9、threaded flange in the head or side of a barrel, drum,or other similar container.1.3 “Flammable and combustible liquids” as used herein refers to the fuels shown in (a) (g) and thevapors of these fuels:a) Gasoline;b) Gasoline/ethanol blends up to 15 percent ethanol;c) Gasoline/methanol blends up to

10、15 percent methanol;d) Diesel fuel;e) Fuel oil;f) Lubricating oil; andg) Kerosene.Hand operated pumps investigated to the requirements of this outline shall be evaluated to the applicablefuels from (a) (g) as specified by the manufacturer.1.4 These pumps are evaluated in accordance with the applicab

12、MISSION FROM UL2 General2.1 Components2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not req

13、uired in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction fea

14、tures or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.2.2 Units of measurement2.2.1 Values stated without parentheses are t

16、purposes of this outline, the following definitions apply.3.2 DIAPHRAGM A dividing membrane or thin partition that is used to provide the pumping action.3.3 DISCHARGE NOZZLE A component through which the fuel can be dispensed.3.4 MANUAL PUMP A non-powered device used to transfer liquids from a conta

17、iner to anothercontainer or device.APRIL 10, 2018UL 1246UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULCONSTRUCTION4 Assembly4.1 The construction of a pump shall be such that parts can be assembled in the intended manner afterbeing dismantled

18、 to the extent needed for replacement of parts or for other maintenance or servicing.4.2 When a pump requires the use of special pipe flanges, gaskets, bolts, or other special fittings or partsfor making connections, such parts shall be furnished as part of the pump assembly.4.3 A product shall be f

19、ormed and assembled so that it will have the strength and rigidity necessary toresist the abuses to which it is likely to be subjected, without resulting in a risk of injury to persons due tototal or partial collapse, loosening or displacement of parts, or other serious defects.5 Materials5.1 A meta

20、l part to be used for bodies or closures shall be iron, steel, brass, aluminum, or other imilarmaterial, inherently resistant to the action of the liquid to be handled. Other parts in contact with the liquidto be handled shall be resistant to the action of such liquid when malfunction of the part re

21、sults in:a) Leakage;b) Malfunction of equipment attached to the pump; orc) A risk of injury to persons.5.2 An elastomeric part used in contact with liquid or vapor shall have the properties of Volume Changeand Extraction as specified in the requirements in the Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157,

22、 forend-use applications of the applicable fuels shown in 1.3.Exception No. 1: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is considered to comply with the requirements of thisparagraph.Exception No. 2: When an elastomeric part does not comply with the requirements described in 5.2, thepump assembly shall be eva

23、luated in accordance with the Immersion Test, Section 21.5.3 The Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157, provides for the testing of either finished elastomericparts or sheet or slab material. Sheet or slab material is to be tested when the elastomeric parts areO-rings having a diameter of less than

24、 25 mm (1 in). The material tested is to be the same as that usedin the product, regardless of whether finished elastomeric parts, or sheet or slab material is tested.5.4 A plastic part of a pump that comes in contact with fluid or vapor, and whose malfunction results inthe hazards specified in 5.1,

25、 shall comply with the Dimensional Stability Test, Section 22.5.5 Sand castings used in the construction of liquid confining parts, failure of which will allow externalleakage, shall be free from porosity leakage and shall have a design thickness of not less than thatspecified in Table 5.1.APRIL 10,

28、d to be handled shall be hot-dip galvanized orotherwise coated in an acceptable manner to retard corrosion if not made of brass or other corrosionresistant material. Surfaces subject to injury in storage, handling, or assembly shall be hot-dip galvanized.Where outer walls of ferrous castings are not

29、 less than 1/4 inch in thickness and have been proven bytest to be free from leaks and porosity, the surfaces are not required to be coated.5.8 All exposed metal parts susceptible to corrosion shall be well painted if not otherwise coated to retardcorrosion.6 Bodies, Covers, and Heads6.1 A pump body

30、 assembly shall withstand the deformation test requirements specific in DeformationTest, Section 20.6.2 Plugs and other parts, other than cap screws and bolts threaded into non-corrosion resistant ferrousparts of the pump, shall be of corrosion resistant metal or provided with a protective coating w

32、 WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL7 Drive Shaft Seals7.1 A stuffing box or seal shall comply with the requirements in the Endurance Test, Section 17.7.2 The stuffing box recess shall be such that packing material does not come into contact with screwthreads.7.3 An adjustable stuffing box, when guarded or n

33、ot accessible, or when clearly visible to the operator,shall be provided with a spring-loaded follower gland or the equivalent.7.4 An automatic spring take-up for a gland shall employ a spring made of corrosion resistant material orcoated to retard corrosion.7.5 The physical characteristics of a tak

34、e-up spring shall be such that it advances the gland through notless than one-half its possible travel from its initial setting with the spring compressed.8 Diaphragm8.1 A metal part coming in contact with a diaphragm shall have no sharp edges, burrs, projections, orsurfaces that are capable of chaf

35、ing or abrading the diaphragm.8.2 A pump, in which a flexible diaphragm, bellows, or similar construction constitutes the only fluid seal,shall be constructed such that the atmospheric side of the diaphragm or bellows is enclosed in a casingconstruction to reduce external leakage in the event of dia

36、phragm or bellows rupture, or shall haveprovisions for the connection of pipe or tube that will vent to the outdoors or an area determined to beequivalent.9 Springs9.1 A spring shall be guided and arranged to reduce binding, buckling, or other interference with its freemovement. When required, ends

38、 PERMISSION FROM UL11 Piping and Fittings11.1 Pipe threads shall be in accordance with the Standard for Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch),ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.11.2 Pipe shall be standard full weight (ASTM Schedule 40) wrought iron or steel, or iron pipe size brassor copper pipe. Malleable iron, stee

39、l, brass or copper fittings shall be used. A union, when used, shall beof the ground joint type or a part that has been determined to be equivalent.11.3 A threaded pipe connection shall be made with litharge and glycerine cement, shellac, shellac andinert powder filler, or a gasoline-resistant pipe

40、joint sealing compound.12 Hose and Couplings12.1 When a hose assembly, consisting of a hose and couplings, is supplied with the pump assembly, itshall have nonferrous couplings attached and comply with the Standard for Gasoline Hoses, UL 330.PROTECTION AGAINST INJURY TO PERSONS13 General13.1 If the

41、operation and maintenance of a product by the user involves a risk of injury to persons, meansshall be provided to reduce the risk.13.2 When judging a product with respect to the requirement in 13.1, consideration shall be given toreasonably foreseeable misuse of the product.13.3 Specific constructi

42、ons, tests, markings, guards, and the like are detailed for some commonconstructions. Specific features and products not covered herein are to be examined and tested todetermine whether they are acceptable for the purpose.14 Sharp Edges14.1 An enclosure, frame, guard, handle, or the like shall not b

43、e sufficiently sharp to constitute a risk ofinjury to persons in normal maintenance and use.Exception: This requirement does not apply to a part or portion of a part needed to perform a workingfunction.APRIL 10, 2018UL 12410UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTI

44、ON WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULPERFORMANCE15 General15.1 A representative sample of each size and specific design of pump is to be subjected to the testsdescribed in these requirements. Additional samples of parts constructed of nonmetallic materials arerequired for physical and chemical tests.15.2 Wa

45、ter, kerosene or Soltrol 170 is to be used for developing the required pressures in a leakage testof liquid confining parts or hydrostatic pressure test. All external and hydrostatic pressures are to bemaintained for at least 1 minute, unless otherwise noted.15.3 Endurance tests are to employ kerose

46、ne, or the equivalent, as the test medium.16 External Leakage Test16.1 There shall be no indication of leakage before or after the test described in 16.2 and 16.3.16.2 Kerosene or Soltrol 170 shall be used as the test fluid for this test. A pressure gauge and a valveare to be installed in the outlet

47、 of the pump in order to measure the discharge pressure under normaloperation (valve open) and under blocked outlet (valve closed). The valve is opened and the pump isoperated as intended. The maximum discharge pressure is measured and recorded. The valve is thenclosed and the pump is operated as in

48、tended. The maximum discharge pressure is measured andrecorded.16.3 The pump is then gradually pressurized from 0 psi to 1-1/2 times the higher maximum dischargepressure, but not more than 50 psi, through the inlet and the pump is visually inspected for signs ofleakage.17 Endurance Test17.1 A hand p

49、ump shall be capable of withstanding an endurance test, using kerosene, for the durationshown in Table 17.1.
