7、ON FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover backpressure and other types of check valves and hose couplers forcompressed gases other than for liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas) in applications covered by NFPA 58,or anhydrous ammonia.1.2 Check valves and hose couplers covered by these req
8、uirements are intended for use with industrialequipment and systems such as, but not limited to, oxygen-fuel gas welding applications covered by thefollowing installation codes:a) Standard for the Design and Installation of Oxygen-Fuel Gas Systems for Welding, Cuttingand Allied Processes, NFPA 51 an
9、db) Safety in Welding and Cutting and Allied Processes, AWS Z49.1.1.3 Check valves for use with liquefied petroleum gas in applications covered by NFPA 58 or anhydrousammonia applications covered by ANSI K61.1 are covered by the requirements in the Standard for Valvesfor Anhydrous Ammonia and LP-Gas

11、e of these requirements.2 General2.1 Components2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirements that:a) Involves a feature or characterist

16、ESS FLOW A device designed to close when fluid flow exceeds aprescribed flow rate.3.4 COMPRESSED GAS IN SOLUTION (ACETYLENE) A nonliquefied compressed gas that isdissolved in a solvent.3.5 FUEL GAS Acetylene, hydrogen, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas),methylacetylene-propadiene stabiliz
17、ed gas (MPS-Gas), and methane, and other liquefied and non-liquefied flammable gases, not including biofuels, that are stable because of their composition orbecause of the conditions of storage.3.6 HOSE COUPLER A device that consists of two parts (plug and socket) that provides a meansfor manually c
18、onnecting and disconnecting the gas supply equipment to and from the gas consumingequipment, without the use of tools. The socket contains a check valve that prevents the flow of gaswhen the two parts are separated.3.7 LIQUEFIED COMPRESSED GAS A gas, which under the charged pressure is partially liq
19、uid at atemperature of 70.0F (21.1C).3.8 LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LP-GAS OR LPG) Any material having a vapor pressure notexceeding that allowed for commercial propane composed predominantly of the following hydrocarbons,either by themselves (except propylene) or as mixtures: propane, propylene, buta
20、ne (normal butane orisobutane) and butylenes.3.9 MPS-GAS Methylacetylene-propadiene, stabilized; a mixture of gases that, in the liquid phaseconforms to the following:a) Methylacetylene-propadiene (in combination, with a maximum ratio of 3.0 moles ofmethylacetylene per mole of propadiene in the init
21、ial liquid phase in a storage container) 68mole percent maximum;b) Propane, butane, isobutane (in combination) 24 mole percent minimum of which at least1/3 (8 mole percent of total mixture) shall be butane and/or isobutane;c) Propylene 10 mole percent maximum; andd) Butadiene 2 mole percent maximum.

23、emperature Ratings4.1 The maximum pressure rating of a device for acetylene shall be 15 psig.4.2 The maximum pressure rating of a device for oxygen and fuel gases other than acetylene shall bespecified by the manufacturer.4.3 If a device is to be marked with the term Fuel Gas and not the specific fu
24、el gas(es), the device shallbe suitable for all gases specified in 3.5. The maximum pressure for these gases, other than acetylene,shall be the same.4.4 Devices covered by these requirements shall have a minimum ambient temperature rating range ofminus 20 plus 125F (minus 29 plus 52C). A device is p
25、ermitted to have a temperature range thatexceeds this maximum temperature or includes a temperature less than this minimum, but the range shallnot begin at a temperature greater than this minimum temperature or end at a temperature less than thismaximum temperature.CONSTRUCTION5 General5.1 A check v
26、alve and hose coupler shall include all of the components required for its normal functionand installation, and shall be furnished as a single unit or assembly.5.2 When a check valve or hose coupler is of a design that requires the use of special gaskets, or otherspecial fittings or parts for making
27、 a proper installation, such parts shall be furnished by the manufacturerwith each device.5.3 A seat disc shall be attached to its poppet or holder, or otherwise assembled so as to prevent it frombecoming dislocated under service conditions. The means to secure the disc shall not rely on cement orad
28、hesive.5.4 A backpressure check valve or hose coupler shall not be equipped with a bypass or other means toprevent it from closing completely.5.5 An excess flow check valve shall be provided with a means to allow for equalization of pressure afterthe excess flow valve closes. If a bypass opening is
29、used, the area of the opening shall not exceed thatof a No. 60 size drill 0.040 inch (1.02 mm) diameter.5.6 A hose coupler that is for use with a fuel gas or oxygen shall incorporate a check valve in the socketportion (supply side) of the coupler that shall close and prevent flow of gas when the two
30、 parts areseparated. 31、f a body shall be constructed with a section to serve as a wrench grip.6.2 Pipe threads shall be in accordance with the Standard for Pipe Threads, ANSI/ASME B1-20.1.Exception: Check Valves intended for use in installations where pipe fittings incorporate other than NPTtype threads shall be permitted
32、 to be provided with pipe threads complying with a national pipe threadstandard compatible with those fittings. The pipe thread type shall be identified in accordance with 22.3.6.3 Joints in a body constructed of two or more parts shall be prevented from loosening as the result ofthe turning effort
33、exerted by connecting or disconnecting piping. See the Deformation Test, Section 10.6.4 If the device is for use with welding equipment, its inlet and outlet connections shall be threaded andconform to the Standard Connections for Regulator Outlets, Torches and Fitted Hose for Welding andCutting Equ
34、ipment, CGA Pamphlet E-1; right hand threads for oxygen, left hand threads for fuel gases.Exception: Other threaded connections may be used if the threads conform to a nationally recognizedstandard and noninterchangeability between oxygen and fuel gases is maintained and the device isintended for su
35、ch application.6.5 A device shall not terminate in a hose barb type of connection unless the connection is factoryinstalled to a hose to make an assembly.6.6 Openings for bolts or screws used for assembly shall not extend through the outer walls of a bodyinto a fluid-handling section.6.7 When warpin
36、g of a casting affects the tightness of fluid-confining joints or the required fit of parts, thecasting shall be stress-relieved to reduce the risk of warping.7 Materials7.1 An operating or gas-confining part of a valve shall have the strength and durability to provide reliableservice of the part an
37、d of the assembly.7.2 To comply with the requirement of 7.1, a material for gas-confining parts of a device intended for fuelgases shall have a minimum melting point (solidus temperature) of not less than 1500F (816C). Amaterial for gas-confining parts of non-fuel gases shall have a melting point (s
38、olidus temperature) of notless than 950F (510C) and a tensile strength of not less than 10,000 psi (68.9 MPa) at 400F (204C).Exception: A valve disc, soft seat, seal ring, diaphragm, or gasket is not required to comply with thisrequirement.7.3 A part in contact with the fluid(s) to be handled shall
39、be resistant to the action of such fluid(s).7.4 With reference to the requirement in 7.3, the tests are based upon the temperature range of 4.4.Elastomeric and polymeric materials, other than for oxygen service greater than 150 psig (1.0 MPa), shallbe subjected to:a) The Accelerated Aging Test, Sect

41、ating greater than 75 psig.If a device has a temperature range greater than the range in 4.4, gasket and seal material componentsshall be subjected to oven aging conditioning (time and temperature values) and low temperatureexposure conditioning, as appropriate, in accordance with the Standard for G
42、askets and Seals, UL 157for the minimum and maximum temperatures specified by the manufacturer. Test temperatures arepermitted to be interpolated for temperature ratings between test temperatures specified in UL 157.Exception: Acetal polymers, chlorotrifluorethylene polymers, tetrafluorethylene, flu
43、orinated ethylenepropylene polymers and polyamides of composition polyhexamethylene adipamide or polycaproamidepolymers (nylon 6, 6/6 or 6/16) shall only be subjected to the Accelerated Aging Test, Section 15.7.5 Elastomeric and polymeric materials utilized in the gas stream of a device intended for
44、 use withoxygen at a pressure greater than 150 psig (1.0 MPa) shall be subjected to the Oxygen Compatibility Test,Section 16.Exception: Chlorotrifluorethylene polymers, tetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene propylene polymersand polyamides of composition polyhexamethylene adipamide or polycaproa
45、mide polymers (Nylon 6 or6/16) are suitable without test.7.6 Copper or a copper alloy exceeding 67 percent copper shall not be used for a part in contact withacetylene or MPS-Gas.7.7 When corrosion of a part interferes with the proper function of a valve, the part shall be of acorrosion-resistant ma
46、terial or be provided with a corrosion-resistant protective coating, in accordancewith 7.8.7.8 Cadmium plating shall have a thickness of no less than 0.0003 inch (0.008 mm), and zinc plating shallhave a thickness of no less than 0.0005 inch (0.013 mm).Exception: On parts where threads constitute the
47、 major portion of the area, the thickness of the cadmiumor zinc plating shall be no less than 0.00015 inch (0.0038 mm).7.9 A part made of drawn brass or machined from brass rod containing more than 15 percent zinc shallbe capable of withstanding, without cracking, the Moist Ammonia Air Stress Cracki
48、ng Test, Section 18, forcopper and copper alloys.7.10 Nonductile cast iron (regular gray iron) shall not be used for bodies or closures for fuel gas checkvalves or hose couplers. This does not prohibit the use of nodular iron.7.11 Aluminum or aluminum alloys shall not be used for parts in contact wi
49、th oxygen or oxygen enrichedgases, where the percentage of oxygen exceeds 21 percent by volume, for devices having a pressurerating greater than 435 psig (3.0 MPa).7.12 Metals used in combination shall be galvanically compatible.
