7、d concentrateto fire protection systems. These requirements are based on the premise that the minimum and maximumviscosity of foam liquid concentrate shall be investigated for use with the water-motor coupled pump.Water-motor coupled pumps shall comply with the requirements described herein, in addi
8、tion to theapplicable requirements in the Standard for Foam Equipment and Liquid Concentrates, UL 162, and theapplicable requirements in the Outline of Investigation for High-Expansion Foam-Extinguishing SystemEquipment and Concentrates, SU 139.1.2 Requirements for the design, installation, operatio
9、n, testing, and maintenance of foam systems for fireprotection are included in the Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam, NFPA 11, and theStandard for Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems, NFPA 16.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a

17、f valve for drain purposesincorporating a closure mechanism that consists of a ported sphere installed within the valve body.Rotation of the sphere by 90 degrees changes the position from open to close. These valves aretypically provided with a handle type operating mechanism with stationary stops.5
18、.7 FLEXIBLE DRIVE COUPLING A device used to connect the shafts from a water motor to apump that permits minor angular and parallel misalignment while transmitting, at most, the maximumspecified torque.5.8 FOAM LIQUID CONCENTRATE A concentrated liquid foaming agent that is intended to bediluted with
19、water.5.9 PRESSURE, MAXIMUM WORKING For performance tests specified in this standard, the sum ofthe maximum net pressure developed by the pump and the maximum positive suction pressure markedon the pump, under any condition of intended use including the relief valve discharging 100 percent ofthe pum
20、p capacity with the valve set at its highest pressure setting. For production tests, this value maybe lower, based on the conditions imposed by the particular installation for which the pump isconstructed. Therefore, the values of maximum net pressure and maximum positive suction pressurethat are ma
21、rked on the pump are those that indicate the acceptability of a pump (the limiting pressures)for an installation.5.10 PRESSURE, NET (TOTAL HEAD) The algebraic difference in psi (kPa) between pressuresmeasured at the discharge outlet and at the suction inlet, corrected to the pump centerline andcorre

23、he capacity and net pressure (including the additional requirements associated with the operation of therelief valve) requiring maximum power for its intended use.5.12 PUMP, POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT A pump characterized by the use of gears, screws, lobes,cams, plungers, pistons or similar elements to c
24、arry and displace foam liquid concentrate. Therelationship of shaft speed and liquid flow is linear.5.13 RELIEF VALVE A valve capable of automatically relieving 100 percent of pump capacity at apressure not exceeding 125 percent of the valve set pressure.5.14 ROTOR A gear, vane, or similar element u
25、sed to carry and displace liquid.5.15 SET PRESSURE Internal pressure at which the relief valve is intended to start to allow the flowof liquid.5.16 TRIM VALVE, THREE WAY BALL VALVE A valve, used as a control valve, incorporating aclosure mechanism that consists of a ported sphere installed within th
26、e valve body. Rotation of thesphere by 90 degrees changes the position such that one of two inlets is open and the outlet remainsopen or the sphere changes position such that both inlets are closed. These valves are typicallyprovided with a handle type operating mechanism with stationary stops.5.17
27、WATER MOTOR, POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT A water motor characterized by the use ofgears, screws, lobes, cams or similar elements to transfer torque by the flow and displacement of water.5.18 WATER-MOTOR COUPLED PUMP A positive displacement water motor installed in the watersupply line that is coupled to a
28、 positive displacement pump to provide proportioning of foam liquidconcentrate.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 These requirements are intended to address water-motor coupled pumps; and, where applicable,their integral ancillary devices including piping and valves.6.2 A casting shall be smooth and free from
29、 scale, lumps, cracks, blisters, sand holes, and defects ofany nature that may affect the use for which it is intended. A casting shall not be plugged or filled, butmay be impregnated to remove porosity.6.3 A bolt, stud, cap screw, or gland swing bolt used to assemble parts subject to stress due to

32、nal diameter of bolt in inches (mm 0.04); andn is the number of threads per inch (25.4 mm).6.5.1 The load on the bolts is to be computed on the basis of the internal fluid pressure equivalent to themaximum working pressure effective over the area out to the centerline of the bolts.6.6 A part that be
33、ars against, rotates within, or slides on stationary parts, and that must be free to moveduring operation shall either:a) Be made of corrosion-resistant material, such as bronze, brass, chrome-plated bronze,monel metal, or the like; orb) Be fitted with bushings, inserts, or other parts made of the c
34、orrosion-resistant materialsspecified in (a) at those points where freedom of motion is required.6.7 Flange dimensions and bolt layouts used in pipe connections shall comply with the requirements inthe Standard for Cast Iron Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings, ANSI/ASME B16.1, or other national orint
35、ernational pipe flange standards.6.8 A threaded opening used for pipe connection shall comply with the requirements in the Standard forPipe Threads, General Purpose, ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, or other national or international pipe threadstandards.6.9 Grooved end connections shall comply with the requireme

37、motor and pump casings shall be constructed of a corrosion resistant material.7.2 The water motor casing shall be provided with flanged, threaded, or grooved piping connections onthe inlet and outlet.7.3 The water-motor coupled pump shall be provided with provisions for accommodating proper supporta
38、nd alignment.7.4 The water-motor and pump casing shall be provided with threaded connections intended for draining.8 Rotors and Other Internal Components8.1 The rotor, wear ring liners, interior nuts, glands, sleeve bearings, drain plugs and other interiorcomponents shall be constructed of a corrosi
39、on-resistant material.8.2 The rotors shall be secured in an axial direction on the pump shaft or hydraulically balanced,permitting no contact with the casing under operating conditions.9 Ball and Roller Bearings9.1 Ball and roller bearings shall have an L-10 rating of not less than 5000 hours at max
40、imum pump load(maximum hydraulic load on the largest rotor operated at any point on its rated speed curve) inaccordance with the Standard for Load Ratings and Fatigue Life for Ball Bearings, ANSI/ABMA 9, and theStandard for Load Ratings and Fatigue Life for Roller Bearings, ANSI/ABMA 11, respectivel

46、istant material and lubricated by the pumpedliquid.11 Shaft Seals11.1 A water motor and pump shall be provided with mechanical or lip seals.11.2 The seals shall be used within the seal manufacturers specifications for pressure, peripheralvelocity (based upon shaft rotational speed), shaft or sleeve
47、finish, maximum shaft deflection andalignment with shaft.11.3 As specified by the seal manufacturer, the shaft seals used in the water motor coupled pumpproportioner shall be suitable for positive pressure conditions and, if required by their application, vacuumconditions.11.4 As specified by the se
48、al manufacturer, the seal shall be constructed to provide for leak tightnessduring both operating and non-operating conditions.11.5 Parts in contact with the liquid shall be corrosion resistant.11.6 A lip seal shall be provided with a primary seal material constructed of polytetrafluoroethene (PTFE)
