7、with the manufacturers instructions and the Standard for the Installation ofSprinkler Systems, NFPA 13.1.2 Sprinklers investigated in accordance with this Outline shall also comply with the applicablerequirements in the Standard for Automatic Sprinklers for Fire-Protection Service, UL 199, not inclu
8、dingthe fire and water distribution tests.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characterist

13、n truss concealed space such that compliance with thefollowing requirements is demonstrated:a) The sprinklers located beyond the draft curtains shall not operate.b) The sprinklers shall discharge water into the space in such a manner to prevent the loadedwood trusses from collapsing.5.1.2 The temper
14、ature rating of the sprinklers subjected to the tests specified in 5.2.1 5.3.6 shall berepresentative of the sprinkler temperature ratings referenced in the manufacturers installationinstructions.5.1.3 These sprinklers are intended to be installed within an area enclosed by draft currents notexceedi
15、ng 1000 sq. ft. which is to be referenced in the manufacturers installation instructions.5.2 Test Arrangement5.2.1 Test structure5.2.1.1 Fire tests shall be conducted using open wood trusses having the minimum and maximum depthreferenced in the manufacturers installation instructions, but no greater
16、 than 60 inches (1.5 m). Each teststructure shall be constructed to have nominal dimensions of 40 ft. (12.2 m) long by 24 ft. (7.3 m) wide tosimulate the maximum draft curtain area of 1000 sq. ft. referenced in the manufacturers installationinstructions. Each test structure shall be constructed usin
17、g a combination of 20 ft. (6.1 m) and 10 ft. (3 m)long trusses spaced a nominal 24 inches (610 mm) apart. Each truss shall be constructed of trade size 2by 4 inch (nominal 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) by 3.5 inch (8.9 mm) spruce, pine or fir lumber. Figure 5.1 illustratesthe typical wood trusses used to constr
18、uct the test structure. 22、nd board. Thebottom plane of the test structure is to be located above the floor of the test room to provide foraccessibility to replace structure members between tests. See Figure 5.1 for an illustration of the typicaltest arrangement.5.2.1.3 To allow for the installation of sprinklers beyond the p
23、rimary test area surrounded by the draftcurtains, the upper plane of the structure is to be extended by 4 ft. (1.2 m) on each end. This extendedarea shall also be surrounded by draft curtains having the same depth as the draft curtains used for theprimary test area. See Figure 5.2 for additional det

30、e individual woodmembers in each layer are to be evenly spaced along the length of the previous layer of wood membersand stapled.5.2.3 Sprinkler installation5.2.3.1 Eight sprinklers are to be installed within the primary test area with the sprinklers nearest theignition location at the maximum spaci
31、ng referenced in the manufacturers installation instructions.Additional target sprinklers are to be installed within the extended areas of the test structure to determineif sprinklers located beyond the primary test area operate. See Figure 2 for additional informationregarding the location of the s
32、prinklers.5.2.3.2 The sprinklers located within the primary test area are to be installed onto a piping configurationhaving the sprinkler branch lines connected to a nominal 1-1/2 inch diameter or larger supply piping toprovide the required water flow to each sprinkler installed within the primary t
33、est area. The targetsprinklers at the ends of the test structure are not required to be connected to a water supply.5.2.3.3 All sprinklers are to be installed at the maximum distance below the upper deck referenced in themanufacturers installation instructions. Sprinklers nearest the ignition locati
34、on shall be installed at alocation that considers the obstruction limitations referenced in the manufacturers installation instructions.5.3 Test method5.3.1 Tests are to be conducted with an ignition location between two sprinklers and between foursprinklers. Representative fire tests are to be cond
35、ucted at (1) the minimum inlet pressure to the sprinklersreferenced in the manufacturers installation instructions when the sprinklers are installed at theirmaximum coverage area and (2) the minimum allowable inlet pressure to the sprinklers, but not less than7 psig (48kPa), when the sprinklers are
36、installed with a coverage area less than the maximum coveragearea referenced in the manufacturers installation instructions. In no case shall the sprinkler dischargedensity be less than 0.10 gpm/ft2(4 mm/min).5.3.2 If sprinkler protection is intended using both wet and dry sprinkler systems, fire te
37、sts shall beconducted using a simulated dry system. For the simulated dry system tests, the water delivery to thesprinklers shall be delayed 60 seconds after the first sprinkler operates.5.3.3 The moisture content of the trusses in the area of the fire involvement shall be within 6 to 12percent.FEBR

39、ructure to allow for the installation of theignition source. An adjustable platform is to be provided for the heptane pan so that the nominal 8 lb (3.6kg) wood crib, which is placed on the top of the pan, can be inserted through the opening and positionedso that the bottom of the crib is at the same
40、 elevation as the lower plane of the trusses. For the fire testsusing the maximum truss height, both the heptane pan and wood crib are to be placed inside the teststructure.5.3.5 To initiate each fire test, the heptane in the pan located beneath the crib is to be ignited.5.3.6 The fire test is to be
41、 conducted for 30 minutes after the first sprinkler operates unless all thecombustibles are extinguished prior to this time. The water pressure supplied to the sprinklers shall be inaccordance with 5.3.1.6 Solid Wood Joist Fire Tests6.1 General6.1.1 When fire tested as described in 6.2.1 6.3.6, wate
42、r discharged from the sprinklers shall becapable of controlling test fires originated in a space formed by solid wood joists such that the targetsprinklers located beyond the joist space blocking and draft curtains do not operate.6.1.2 The temperature rating of the sprinklers subjected to the tests
43、specified in 6.2.1 6.3.6 shall berepresentative of the sprinkler temperature ratings referenced in the manufacturers installationinstructions.6.2 Test Arrangement6.2.1 Test room6.2.1.1 Fire tests shall be conducted using solid wood joists having the minimum and maximum distancebetween the bottoms of
44、 the upper plane joists to the top of the lower plane joists referenced in themanufacturers installation instructions. The test structure shall be of 48 ft. (12.2 m) in length or longer ifneeded to accommodate the installation of 8 sprinklers within the primary test area. The total width of thearea
45、with joists installed at the upper and lower planes shall be 4 ft. (1.2 m) wider than the maximumsprinkler spacing referenced in the manufacturers installation instructions. The upper plane of the teststructure shall be constructed of nominal 2 by 12 inch solid wood joists spaced 16 inches (406 mm)
46、apartwith tongue and groove orientated strand board having a nominal thickness of 3/4 inch (19 mm) installedonto the top of the joists. The orientated strand board is to be extended beyond the sides of the upperplane joists so that the total width of the upper deck is 24 ft. (7.3 m). The lower plane
47、 of the test structureshall be constructed of nominal 2 by 6 inch solid wood joists spaced 16 inches (406 mm) apart withnominal 1/2-inch (12.7-mm) thick orientated strand board installed onto the bottom of the joists. The solidwood joists shall be made of spruce, pine or fir.6.2.1.2 For the upper pl
48、ane of the test structure, each joist channel shall be provided with blocking within2 ft. (0.61 m) beyond the last row of sprinklers on each end of the primary test area. Sections of the woodjoists are to be used to construct the blocking and are to span the entire width and depth of the joistchanne
49、l. Draft curtains extending 1/3 of the distance between upper and lower joists or 6 inches (153mm), whichever is greater, below the bottom of the upper joists is to be installed around the perimeter ofthe test structure. The draft curtains shall be constructed of nominal 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick plywood. Anoncombustible material such as cement board is to be installed onto the top of the orientated strandboard in the location of the ignition to provide for the entrapment of hot gases in the event of a fire inducedbreach of the orientated strand board.
