、 the flow of gas or vapor through the cable to a level not exceeding 0.007 cubic foot per hour (198cm3/h) of air at a pressure of 6 inches (152 mm) of water.2 General2.1 The cable manufacturer shall specify the minimum length of cable necessary to restrict the flow to, orbelow, the level specified i

、n 1.1.2.2 The cable covered by these requirements is not required to be sealed under certain conditions of use.See Section 501-5(e)(2) in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70-1993.CONSTRUCTION3 General3.1 The construction of the cable shall comply with the requirements applicable to the type of cab

、le underconsideration.3.2 Fillers and filling compound added to block gases or vapors shall be compatible with the othermaterials used in the cable construction.3.3 The cable shall have been investigated and found acceptable for use in ordinary locations inaccordance with the National Electrical Cod

、e, NFPA 70-1993 before being investigated for this additionalspecial-use marking.PERFORMANCE4 Air-Leakage Test4.1 General4.1.1 Representative samples of the cable in the as-received condition and the conditioning described in4.2.1 shall be subjected to the air-leakage test described in 4.3.1 and 4.3

、.2.4.1.2 The leakage of air through each sample shall not exceed 0.007 cubic foot per hour (198 cm3/h).DECEMBER 4, 2006SUBJECT 20294UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL4.2 Air-oven conditioning4.2.1 Samples of the cable are to be c

、onditioned in an oven having forced circulation of fresh air. Oventemperatures are to be recorded throughout the conditioning.4.2.2 The cable samples are to be conditioned for a length of time and at a temperature determined inaccordance with the following:a) Test time:b) Test temperature:in which:D

、 is the test time in days,T1is the cable rated temperature in degrees C,T2is the test (oven) temperature in degrees C, andTisT2minus T14.2.3 For the calculations in 4.2.2 (a) and (b), either the test time (D) or the test temperature (T2)istobeselected by the manufacturer.DECEMBER 4, 2006 SUBJECT 202

、9 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL4.3 Leakage test4.3.1 Each as-received and conditioned sample is to be subjected to an air pressure of 6 inches (152mm) of water. The air leakage through each sample is to be measured with an

、acceptable instrument suchas a Wet Test Meter.4.3.2 For the leakage test, the strands of the individual conductors may be sealed to restrict the flowbetween the strands. However, the leakage is to be measured between any of the cable sheaths orcovers.5 Explosion Tests5.1 Samples of the cable shall b

、e subjected to the explosion tests described in 5.2 5.7. There shall beno propagation of the explosions through the cable.5.2 The cable is to be installed in an enclosure representative of explosion-proof equipment using asuitable cable fitting assembled in accordance with the manufacturers instruct

、ions. The enclosure is tohave a free internal volume of at least 1 ft3(28.3 cubic decimeters). The inner and outer ends of the cableare not to be sealed in any way.5.3 The subassembly is to protrude for 5.9 0.4 inches (150 10 mm) into the enclosure with the shield, jacket, or other cover intact.5.4 T

、he length of cable extending outward from the cable fitting is to be 6 feet (1.8 meters).5.5 The outer end of the cable is to extend into a test chamber.5.6 A series of at least ten tests is to be conducted over the flammable range of the explosive mixture. The explosive mixture to be used is to be b

、ased on the hazardous location class and group marking onthe cable.5.7 During each test, the explosive mixture is to be introduced into the explosion-proof enclosure and thetest chamber. The pressure in the enclosure is to be increased until the concentration of the explosivemixture exiting the oute

、r end of the cable reaches the test gas concentration. The explosive mixture in theenclosure is then to be ignited by means of a spark plug. There is to be no ignition of the mixture in thetest enclosure surrounding the outer end of the cable.DECEMBER 4, 2006SUBJECT 20296UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT
