5、HER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover enclosures classified with respect to explosion and fire hazard only. Theseenclosures are intended for installation and use in hazardous (classified) locations, Class I, Groups A, B,C, and D, an

6、d Class II, Groups E, F, and G, in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.1.2 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or differentfrom those in use when the Outline of Investigation was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, elect

7、ricshock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component andend-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the level of safety for the use of theproduct as originally anticipated by the intent of this Outline of Investigation.2 General2.1 If a value

8、 for measurement as given in these requirements is followed by a value in other units inparentheses, the second value may be only approximate. The first stated value is the requirement.2.2 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall beinterpreted

9、as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION3 General3.1 The construction of an enclosure shall comply with the construction requirements in the Standard forExplosion-Proof and Dust-Ignition-Proof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations,UL 1203, w

10、ith the modifications described in 3.2 3.4.3.2 An inspection window in an enclosure shall have strength sufficient to withstand the impact testdescribed in 4.3.3.3 Provision for connection to threaded metal conduit need not be provided if instructions are providedfor drilling and tapping openings in

11、 the enclosure for such connection. See 5.2.3.4 Threaded openings for mounting equipment need not be closed if the openings are such that:a) Equipment can be installed so that it will engage the minimum number of threads required inthe Standard for Explosion-Proof and Dust-Ignition-Proof Electrical

12、Equipment for Use inHazardous (Classified) Locations, UL 1203, andb) Instructions are provided to indicate the need for closing these openings. 13、eneral4.1 The enclosure shall comply with the performance requirements in the Standard for Explosion-Proofand Dust-Ignition-Proof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations, UL 1203,except those that are not applicable because of the absence of electrical parts, and except as n

14、oted in4.2.4.2 If the marking on the enclosure does not indicate that all conduit entries 1/2-inch-trade size and largerare to be sealed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70-1993, the enclosure shallcomply with the performance requirements in the Standard for Outlet Boxes and Fit

15、tings for Use inHazardous (Classified) Locations, UL 886.4.3 An inspection window shall withstand without cracking or breaking the impact of a 4 pound (1.8 kg)weight falling through a distance of 6 inches (152 mm). The weight is to have a hardened steel ball, 1 inch(25.4 mm) in diameter at one end,

16、and this end is to impact the window. If a guard is provided to protectthe window, the test shall be conducted with and without the guard in place.MARKING5 General5.1 Markings shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Explosion-Proof andDust-Ignition-Proof Electrical Equipment for Use i

17、n Hazardous (Classified) Locations, UL 1203 and, asapplicable, 5.2 5.5.5.2 Instructions for drilling and tapping openings for connection to threaded metal conduit, for mountingequipment, and instructions for closing unused threaded openings shall be provided if necessary inaccordance with 3.3 and 3.

18、4. These instructions shall be coordinated with the construction requirementsin the Standard for Explosion-Proof and Dust-Ignition-Proof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous(Classified) Locations, UL 1203. The instructions may be on a stuffer sheet.5.3 An enclosure shall be marked with the word

19、 CAUTION and the following or equivalent wording: Toprevent external fire or explosion do not install switching equipment intended to interrupt more than_ rms symmetrical amperes. Do not install equipment that will produce external surfacetemperatures exceeding the ignition temperature of the flamma

20、ble or combustible materials which maysurround this enclosure. The blank space is to be marked 10,000 unless the enclosure has beentested with representative equipment interrupting a higher current, in which case the higher current maybe marked.5.4 The marking specified in 5.3 shall be readily visib

21、le during installation of equipment inside theenclosure. The marking may be on a pressure-sensitive label or the equivalent.5.5 The enclosure shall be marked to indicate that current-interrupting devices, such as switches, relaysand circuit breakers, which may be installed in the enclosure may fail

22、electrically or mechanically unlessthey have been investigated and found suitable for operation in the hazardous locations involved.
