、9275795 0804480 380 NOVEMBER 23,1999 SUBJECT 2329 5 INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover electrostatic discharge devices for personnel. These devices are intended to be attached to a person and reduce electrostatic charge buildup on the wearers body and thereby protect static sensitive

、devices or equipment while being handled by the wearer. These requirements do not cover the devices electrostatic discharge performance. 1.2 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this Outline of

、 Investigation, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to determine that the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this Outline of Investigation is maintain

A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this Outline of Investigation shall not be judged to comply with this Outline of Investigation. Where appropriate, revision of requirements shall be adopted in confor

、mance with the methods employed for development and implementation of this Outline of Investigation. 2 General 2.1 Components 2.1.1 Other than as noted in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component

、 is not required to comply with a specific requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of that component in the product covered by this Outline of Investigation, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of Investigation. 2.1.3 A component sha

、ll be used in accordance with its recognized rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.1.4 Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, suc

、h as certain temperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions for which they have been recognized. 2.2 Units of Measurement 2.2.1 When a value for measurement is followed by a value in other units in parentheses, the first stated value is the requir

、ement. 6 SUBJECT 2329 NOVEMBER 23,1999 CONSTRUCTION 3 General 3.1 Unless otherwise specified, the thickness of the material used in the construction is not specified for a device that complies with the tests specified in Sections 4 - 7. 3.2 The location, connection, and construction of a resistive e

、lement of a device shall be such that it does not short-circuit during normal use or as a result of the tests specified in Sections 4 - 7. PERFORMANCE 4 General 4.1 An electrostatic control device shall comply with the tests described in Sections 5 - 7. 5 Resistance Test 5.1 The resistance of a devi

、ce is to be determined in the as-received condition using the following equation: R = VA in which: R is the resistance of the device in ohms; V is the rated voltage specified in 9.3(a); and I is the maximum leakage current, 0.5 mA. 6 Environmental Tests 6.1 As a result of the conditioning specified

、in 6.2 - 6.4, the resistance of a device shall not be less than the resistance determined in accordance with 5.1 and there shall not be permanent shrinkage, deformation, or cracking of the outer enclosure of the device. A new set of three devices is to be used for each of the conditions. 6.2 The res

、istance of three devices is to be measured after being conditioned for 48 h at a relative humidity of 85 &5 percent at a temperature of 32 k2“C (89.6 f3.6“F). The resistance is to be measured while at the test conditions. 6.3 The resistance of three devices is to be measured after being conditioned

、for 3 h at 65 aC (149 k3.6“F). The resistance is to be measured while at the test conditions. 6.4 The resistance of three devices is to be measured after being conditioned for 4 h at 65 WC (149 k3.6“F) followed by 4 h at O %?OC (32 *3.6“F). The resistance is to be measured after each exposure after

、the samples have returned to room ambient temperature. STD-UL SUBJECT 2329-ENGL 1999 = 9275795 0804482 753 NOVEMBER 23,1999 SUBJECT 2329 7 7 Static Discharge Test 7.1 The resistance of a device shall not be less than the resistance determined in accordance with 5.1 ater ten discharges as described i

、n 7.2 and 7.3 randomly applied to the conductive portion of the static control device. 7.2 Three devices are to be subjected to ten, 10,000 Vdc discharges supplied by a charge storage circuit simulating two, 500 pF capacitors connected in series. The circuit is to be connected to a high-voltage disc

、harge probe having a series resistance of 1500 ohms. A 1 -inch (25.4-mm) spherical brass tip is to be mounted to the end of the probe. The ground connection of the probe is to be connected to the conductive portion of the electrostatic control device. 7.3 The charge storage circuit is to recharge to

、 10,000 Vdc between discharges. MARKING 8 Details 8.1 An electrostatic control device shall have a permanent, legible marking on the device or on the smallest unit package that includes: a) The manufacturers name, trade name, or trademark or other descriptive marking by which the organization respon

、sible for the product is identifiable, b) A distinctive (“catalog“ or “modei“) number or the equivalent, c) The date or other dating period of manufacture not exceeding any three consecutive months. Exception No. 1: Manufacturers identification in a traceable code complies with this requirement when

、 the product is identified by the brand or trademark owned by a private labeler. Exception No. 2: An abbreviated date of manufacture or the date of manufacture in a nationally recognized conventional code or in a code affirmed by the manufacturer complies with this requirement when the code: a) Does

、 not repeat in less than 20 years, and b) Does not require reference to the production records of the manufacturer to determine when the product was manufactured. STD-UL SUBJECT 2329-ENGL 1999 9275795 0804483 b9T 8 SUBJECT 2329 NOVEMBER 23,1999 INSTRUCTIONS 9 General 9.1 Each device shall be provide

The instructions shall include the information specified in 9.3 and shall be included in each product package. 9.2 The letter height for the word “CAUTION“ shall not be less than 1/8 in (3.2 mm). The remaining wording shall not be less than 1/16 in (6.6 mm) high. The letter

、 height is to be based on upper case capital letters and letters such as “d,“ “b,“ and “h“ for the type size used. 9.3 The following information or the equivalent shall be provided on an instruction sheet with each device: a) This product is not rated for use in conjunction with equipment with opera

、ting voltage exceeding (rated voltage) volts. b) CAUTION: The (electrostatic control device or name of the device) is for electrostatic control. It does not reduce or increase the risk of electric shock when working on electrical equipment. Follow the same precautions you would normally use without
