The fire resistance test method portion of these requirements is intended to evaluatethe performance of hip and ridge shingles exposed to fire sources exterior to a building. The windresistance test method portion of these requirements is intended to evaluate hip and ri

7、dge shingles abilityto resist damage when subjected to winds in the Beaufort Scale No. 10 range 55-63 mph (88-101K/h).1.2 Class A hip and ridge shingles are effective against severe fire test exposures. Under suchexposures, shingles of this class are not readily flammable, afford a fairly high degre

Under suchexposures, shingles of this class are not readily flammable, afford a moderate degree of fire

9、 protection tothe roof deck, do not slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.1.4 Class C hip and ridge shingles are effective against light fire test exposures. Under such exposures, shingles of this class are not readily flammable, afford a measurable degree of fire protecti

The battens are to be placed along each side of the test deck, with the long dimension of the battens perpendicular to the plywood, leaving a 1-3/4 inch (44.4 mm)overhang of the plywood on one end. Additio

The long dimension of theshingles is to be parallel with the long dimension of the test deck and applied symmetrically about thecenter of the deck so that headlap portions of the shingles meet at or close to the center of the deck. There is to be a 1 inch (25.4 mm) overhang at

22、 the leading edge. The hip and ridge shingles are then tobe laid flat and applied down the center of the deck. The application is to be in accordance with theinstallation instructions, such that specified exposures are maintained and, where applicable, allinterlocking mechanisms are in place.DECEMBE

Although not required for interlocking hip and ridge shingles, conditioning asdescribed in 4.2.2.2.3 is to be implemented when required to seal the s

The test deck then is to be subjected to a luminous gas flame approxim

Licks of flame that extend approximately an additional 1 to 2 feet (0.3 to 0.6m) are not prohibited. The gas supply is to be regulated so that the fl

35、ame, if not augmented by combustionof the roof covering, develops a temperature of 760 28C (1400 50F) for a Class A or B test, and 70428C (1300 50F) for a Class C testa. The temperature is to be determined by a No. 14 B&S gage (2.1mm2) chromel-alumel wire thermocouple located 1 inch (25.4 mm) above

36、the surface and 1/2 inch (12.7mm) toward the source of flame from the lower edge of the first board of a bare deck formed ofnoncombustible material.aIt has been found that the gas flow corresponds to a heat supply rate within the range from 21,000 to22,000 Btu per minute (369 to 387 kWh) for Class A

37、 or B samples and 18,000 to 19,000 Btu per minute(316 to 334 kWh) for Class C samples.5.3 For a Class A or B test, the gas flame is to be applied continuously for 10 minutes or until the spreadof (flame of the material being tested) permanently recedes from a point of maximum spread, whicheveris the

38、 shorter duration. For a Class C test, the gas flame is to be applied for 4 minutes and then removed.5.4 During and after the application of the test flame, the test sample is to be observed for the distanceto which flaming of the material has spread, production of flaming or glowing brands, and dis

The observation is to continue until the flame has permanently receded froma point of maximum spread.DECEMBER 15, 2006 SUBJECT 2375 7UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6 Wind Test6.1 Test a

40、pparatus6.1.1 The essential elements of the wind-test apparatus are illustrated in Figure 6.1. The apparatusconsists of a machine capable of delivering a horizontal stream of air through a rectangular opening, 36inches (915 mm) wide and 12 inches (305 mm) high, at a velocity of 60 miles per hour (mp

41、h) (96.6 km/h).The test panel is mounted on a carriage which is capable of being adjusted to various angles incident tothe wind direction.6.1.2 The stream of air discharged is to have a flow perpendicular to the face of the discharge orifice. Thevelocity of the discharged air, as measured at the fac

42、e of the discharged orifice, at each of the 33 locationsdetermined by projecting the lines of intersection of the flow stabilizer plates, is not to vary more than 2mph (3.2 km/h) from the average of all 33 determinations when such average velocity is maintained at 60mph (96.6 km/h).6.1.3 Instrumenta

43、tion for determining velocity is to be permanently fixed at those locations found by testto indicate the average velocity over the face of the orifice.6.1.4 The carriage or mounting means for the test panels is to maintain the panels in position withoutvibration or other movement that will affect th

45、ISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6.2 Test6.2.1 The wind test is to be conducted on duplicate test panels. One test is to be conducted with the windapplication parallel to the ridge, and one test is to be conducted with the wind application perpendicularto the ridge. The carriage holding the tes

46、t deck is to be oriented so that the bottom of the test panel isparallel with the floor.CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE7 Fire Test7.1 At no time during the Fire Test, Section 5, shall:a) Any portion of the roof covering material be blown or fall off the test deck in the form offlaming or glowing brands,b)

47、The roof deck be exposed by breaking, sliding, cracking or warping of the roof covering, except for roof coverings restricted to use over a noncombustible deck, orc) Portions of the roof deck fall away in the form of glowing particles. With respect to (b), the deck is exposed whenever any portion of t

48、he deck is visible and without cover fromthe roof covering material or its residue. The portion of deck directly underneath burning brands andcracks or fissures, 1/8 inch (3.17 mm) wide or less, is excluded from this requirement.7.2 For the purpose of the requirements of 7.1, any piece of roof cover

49、ing that continues to glow or flameupon landing on the test room floor is a glowing or flaming brand, respectively.7.3 The flaming of the material shall not have spread beyond 6 feet (1.8 m) for Class A, 8 feet (2.4 m) forClass B, and 13 feet (3.9 m) ( the top of the deck) for Class C. There shall have been no significant lateralspread of flame from the path directly exposed to the test flame.8 Wind Test8.1 At no time during a 2 hour period of exposure to 60 mph (96.6 km/h) wind on any test panel shal
