6、ing smoke chambers of new orexisting masonry fireplaces. These products are intended for field application.1.2 Cementitious resurfacing materials are intended to be installed within the smoke chamber of masonryfireplaces that have been constructed in accordance with the Standard for Chimneys, Firepl
7、aces, Vents,and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances, NFPA 211.1.3 Cementitious resurfacing materials are not intended to provide structural support for the masonryfireplace chimney.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirement
8、s for that component.2.2 A component need not comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in thevalue covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accor

12、ply.5.2 CEMENTITIOUS MATERIAL RESURFACING SYSTEM A nonmetallic material that is factorymade or mixed, and that is assembled in the field to restore the ability of a smoke chamber to containand convey the products of combustion to the outside and to allow for reduced clearance tocombustible construct
13、ion.5.3 CERTIFIED CHIMNEY SWEEP A chimney sweep certified by a nationally endorsed chimneysweep organization.5.4 FIREPLACE DAMPER A plate located at the top of a masonry fireplace, used to stop the flow ofair or restrict the flow of flue-gas air mixtures from inside the fireplace to the outdoors.5.5
14、 HEATING APPLIANCE A chimney-connected, fuel-burning device.5.6 MASONRY CHIMNEY A field constructed chimney of solid masonry units, bricks, stones, orreinforced portland-cement concrete, which may or may not be lined with chimney flue liners built inaccordance with applicable building code requireme
15、nts.5.7 MASONRY FIREPLACE A field-constructed assembly constructed in accordance with theStandard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel Burning Appliances, NFPA 211, and inaccordance with the International Residential Code, IRC.5.8 QUALIFIED PERSON A trained installer who has successfully
16、completed a thorough, company-sponsored training course and who is familiar with the use of the product and the risks associated withimproper installation procedures.5.9 SMOKE CHAMBER The transitional area from the damper opening to the beginning of the flueliner of the fireplace system.APRIL 8, 200
17、5 SUBJECT 2505 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULCONSTRUCTION6 Materials6.1 Parts used in a cementitious material for resurfacing smoke chamber shall be of noncombustible,corrosion-resistant materials.6.2 Cementitious resurface
18、materials shall comply with the requirements in Section 13, Resistance toAction of Acids Tests for Nonmetallic Flue-Gas Conduit; and Section 14, Freezing and Thawing Test ofWater Absorptive Nonmetallic Materials; as applicable.6.3 Paint coatings shall remain intact at the maximum temperatures obtain
19、ed on the part during the testsspecified in these requirements.6.4 Except for binder materials, cementitious resurfacing materials shall be noncombustible.6.5 Cementitious resurfacing materials that are self-supporting shall be applied to solid surfaces so thatthe material does not sag. An adhesive
20、or cement that is depended upon to adhere the material tomasonry brick/clay tile shall retain its adhesive qualities at any temperature the adhesive is capable ofattaining when tested in accordance with these requirements and at 0F (minus 18C).6.6 A water-absorbing cementitious resurfacing material
21、shall not be subject to wetting by condensationor rain when installed as intended.PERFORMANCE7 General7.1 After being subjected to the Brand Fire Test, Section 10, and the Flash Fire Test, Section 11, thecementitious resurfacing material shall be capable of being further used. The cementitious resur
22、facingmaterial shall be free of cracks, distortion, or other damage. The cementitious resurfacing material is tobe visually inspected (including the use of a video camera, if necessary) to determine that damage hasnot occurred.7.2 Test results indicating compliance include the following:a) No part o
23、f the product has become damaged or permanently distorted to an extent that it orthe smoke chamber of the masonry fireplace will not continue to function as intended; andb) A cementitious resurfacing material has not cracked in a manner allowing portions of theliner to become dislodged by poking the
24、 smoke chamber surface with a sharp instrument.7.3 A cementitious resurfacing system shall comply with the following:a) Cementitious resurfacing material shall remain in its intended position prior to, during, andfollowing tests on the fireplace system;b) Products resulting from the loosening, combu
25、stion or volatilization of any combustible bindershall be conveyed through the top of the test fireplace/chimney and not be discharged insidethe building;c) The thermal conductivity of the cementitious resurfacing material shall not be increased; andAPRIL 8, 2005SUBJECT 25056UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL
26、NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULd) The cementitious resurfacing material shall not show evidence of softening, melting,disintegrating, losing binder, or other malfunction or deterioration.8 Test Installation8.1 The following factors are to form the ba
27、sis of the performance tests of a product:a) Size and type of cementitious resurfacing material system;b) Maximum size of the masonry fireplace;c) Type of smoke chamber construction or surface material to which the cementitiousresurfacing material system is recommended to be applied; andd) Samples o
28、f cementitious resurfacing material shall be representative of the materialmanufacturers curing and mixing specifications and thickness.8.2 A cementitious resurfacing material system is to be tested with representative production samples ofthe materials . For these purposes, the particle size, densi
29、ties, mixing proportions of the ingredients, andchemical and physical properties of the ingredients are to be verified prior to application of thecementitious resurfacing material into the test assembly.8.3 A cementitious resurfacing material system incorporating water in a cementitious mixture is t
30、o becured for not less than 20 days (or manufacturers recommended curing time) after the cementitiousresurfacing system is installed prior to conducting the Brand and Flash Fire Tests required in 10 and 11.If a specific curing method is specified by the manufacturer, this is to be followed as far as
31、 it is practical.8.4 The cementitious resurfacing material system is to be applied in a smoke chamber of the testfireplace at the minimum thickness as specified in the installation instructions or training manual.8.5 The test fireplace and chimney shall be constructed in accordance with the Test Ins
32、tallation Sectionof the Standard for Fireplace Accessories, UL 907. The smoke chamber is to be finished as recommendedby the manufacturer of the cementitious resurfacing material system.8.6 The test structure is to be erected within a room having ventilation capable of maintaining the buildupof carb
33、on monoxide to less than 50 parts per million throughout the period of any tests. The room is to befree of extraneous drafts and the chimney and liner are to exhaust into the same space or into a spacefreely communicating with the space from which the combustion air is taken. The room is to be such
34、thatduring any one test the room temperature does not increase by more than 20F (11C) above the roomtemperature recorded at the beginning of the test.8.7 The fireplace enclosure is to be constructed according to the requirements of the “Test Installation “Section of the Standard for Fireplace Access
35、ories, UL907 at the minimum clearances specified by themanufacturer of the cementious resurfacing material system. 38、ing tests described in Sections 13 and 14based upon the manufacturers material curing process, range of mixing specifications and, the variousend use applications (such as the cementitious resurfacing material applied to masonry brick and mortar, or applied to clay tile, etc.).12.2 Representative sa
39、mples of complete parts, free of observable cracks or shattered edges, are to beidentified. The samples may contain laminations and fissures, only to the extent that they arerepresentative of the material from which the samples are taken.13 Resistance to Action of Acids Test for Nonmetallic Flue-Gas

42、 bag or container of mix for a cementitious resurfacing material system, shall bemarked with the following:a) Manufacturers or private labelers name or identifying symbol;b) Distinctive part or model designation;c) Install and Use Only in Accordance With Installation and Maintenance Instructions, or
43、equivalent; andd) Date of manufacture (or lot number, if the date of manufacture can be traced from thisnumber).15.2 When a manufacturer produces cementitious resurfacing material at more than one factory, eachindividual part shall have a distinctive marking to identify it as the product of a partic
44、ular factory.15.3 Each bag or container of mix for the cementitious resurfacing material shall be permanently markedwith the statement MAINTAIN MINIMUM X INCH CLEARANCE FROM MASONRY FIREPLACE TOCOMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL” or equivalent. Where X is the minimum clearance specified by themanufacturer of the
45、cementitious resurfacing material system.INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS16 General16.1 Installation and maintenance instructions shall be provided, either combined in a single manual oras separate manuals, and shall be packed in or with the package containing the material mix.16.2 The inst

47、ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL17 Installation Instructions17.1 The installation instructions or training manual shall include particular details concerning:a) The manufacturers or private labelers name, address, and catalog designation or equivalenttrade designation of the chimney repair
48、system and all parts or materials necessary for itsinstallation.b) The material or parts required and the step-by-step process for installing the cementitiousresurfacing material system.c) Limitations with respect to installation; material compatible for use with cementitiousresurfacing material sys
49、tem such as a masonry fireplace (or flue tile lining), minimumthicknesses of chimney repair material, range of mixing ratios, curing or drying method of two ormore parts to constitute the intended assembly, and the like.d) Reference to the use of raincaps per the Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, andSolid Fuel-Burning Appliances, NFPA 211.e) A warning against the use of materials other than as specified in the manufacturersinstructions.f) The following or an equivalent statement: Contact Local Building or Fire Officials Abou
