5、ng applications and non-integral light-emitting-diode lighting strings. A non-integral lighting string is anLED lighting string that is provided with one or more fittings that are not of a standard type NEMAconfiguration. These requirements supplement those described in the referenced standards.2 Un
6、its of Measurement2.1 In addition to being stated in the inch/pound units that are customary in the USA, each of therequirements in this outline is also stated in units that make the requirement conveniently usable incountries employing the metric system (practical SI). Equivalent although not neces
7、sarily exactlyidentical results are to be expected from applying a requirement in USA or metric terms. Equipmentcalibrated in metric units is to be used when a requirement is applied in metric terms.3 Undated References3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of
8、this outline shall beinterpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.4 Components4.1 Except as indicated in 4.2 a component (including gaskets and polymeric materials) of a productcovered by this outline of investigation shall comply with the requirements for that component.4

12、ance, and production requirements of theStandard for Class 2 Power Units, UL 1310, and as specified below.5.2 An LED driver intended for outdoor use as marked on the device shall comply with the Outdoor Useperformance requirements of the Standard for Class 2 Power Units, UL 1310, including the Stand
13、ingWater Immersion Test. As a result of the Rain Test, the LED driver shall comply with the raintightrequirements.5.3 An LED driver shall comply with the Standard for Class 2 Power Units, UL 1310, Normal TemperatureTest requirements under conditions of maximum obtainable output current and maximum o
14、btainableoutput power.5.4 With reference to 8.1, the combination of the driver and the non-integral lighting string shall complywith the applicable requirements specified in the Standard for Seasonal and Holiday Decorative Products,UL 588.6 Non-Integral Lighting Strings6.1 A non-integral lighting st
15、ring shall comply with the applicable requirements described in the Standardfor Seasonal and Holiday Decorative Products, UL 588, for lighting strings that are located in the outputof a Class 2 power unit; however, the Exceptions for products located in a Class 2 circuit with a maximumavailable powe
16、r of 15 Watts do not apply to non-integral lighting strings, regardless of the available powerof the LED driver.6.2 A non-integral lighting string shall be provided with non-standard type connectors. The connectorshall be provided with a strain relief means such that the pull exerted on the supply c
17、ord cannot betransmitted directly to the terminals, splices or internal wiring of the connector. Compliance shall bedetermined by the Strain Relief Test, Section 46 of the Standard for Seasonal and Holiday DecorativeProducts, UL 588.MARKINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS7 Markings7.1 An LED driver shall not be m
18、arked with any Class designation such as Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3.7.2 In addition to the markings of Section 116, Product/Cord Tag Markings, of the Standard for Seasonaland Holiday Decorative Products, UL 588, an LED driver shall employ the following markings:a) Output voltage rating;b) Output c
19、urrent rating not exceeding 5 amperes, or output volt-ampere or watt rating notexceeding 100 VA or 100 W;c) Indication of output type (ac or dc) and frequency if ac;d) “For use only with UL Listed non-integral LED light string rated_Watts”. The blankshould be filled in with the suitable rating.JUNE

21、ntegral lighting string shall bemarked within 3 inches of the male connector, “Caution: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, useonly with UL Listed seasonal use LED drivers rated _Watts.” The blank should be filled in with thesuitable rating.8 Instruction Manual8.1 The instruction manual fo
22、r the LED driver shall include information on the product(s) intended forinterconnection consistent with the markings. In addition, it shall contain the following statement orequivalent: “If the connector of this driver does not properly fit into the connector of the lighting string, donot modify th
23、e product and discard the product if the connector is damaged.”8.2 In addition to the applicable requirements from Section 120 123 of the Standard for Seasonal andHoliday Decorative Products, UL 588, the instruction manual for the non-integral lighting string shallinclude the following statement or equivalent: “If the connector of this lighting string does not properly fitinto the connector of the driver, do not modify the product and discard product if the connector isdamaged.”JUNE 17, 2011SUBJECT 27496
