8、rential type residential waterflowmeters intended for use on cold water supplies when:a) Connected directly to residential sprinkler fire protection systems; orb) Connected to combined domestic plumbing and residential sprinkler fire protection service(multipurpose fire protection system) when insta

9、lled as specified in the Standard for theInstallation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes,NFPA 13D.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that compone

10、nt.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline of Investigation; orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of Investigation.2.3 A co

11、mponent shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures

14、requirements, the following definitions apply.5.2 INFERENTIAL FLOW METER A water volume measuring device where the flow volume isbased on the approximately linear and direct relationship between the rotational velocity of a multi-vanerotary device (impeller), and the rate of water flow through the m

15、eter. These meters include turbine,single jet and multi-jet types.5.3 MULTI-JET TYPE FLOW METER A type of turbine type flow meter that passes water throughseveral tangential orifices around the circumference of a cylindrical measuring chamber creating severaljets that are directed onto the impeller

16、vanes mounted on a vertical spindle, causing the impeller torotate, and exits the measuring chamber through another set of tangential orifices positioned at adifferent level in the measuring chamber.5.4 SINGLE JET TYPE FLOW METER A type of a turbine type flow meter having one largeopening at the inl

17、et that gradually reduces in diameter, creating a stream or jet of water that isdirected onto the impeller vanes mounted on a vertical spindle within a cylindrical cavity, causing theimpeller to rotate.5.5 TURBINE TYPE FLOW METER A water volume measuring device that passes 100 percent ofthe water th

18、rough a single chamber where a multi-vane rotary device (impeller) is driven by the waterflow striking the vanes, to indicate the volume that passes through the device.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Meters shall be equipped with integral strainers or shall be provided with strainers as part of the meteras

19、sembly. 20、TION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL7 Sizes7.1 Meters are to be constructed for use with standard pipe of nominal size 3/4 through 2 inch.7.2 Meter sizes refer to the nominal diameter of the waterway through the inlet and outlet connectionsand to the pipe size for which the connections are intended.8 Rat

21、ed Pressure8.1 Meters shall be constructed for a minimum rated pressure of 175 psig.Exception: Meters intended for application in multipurpose piping systems as specified in the Standardfor the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes,NFPA 13D shall b

22、e permitted to be rated 130 psig or higher.9 Materials9.1 Nonmetallic materials9.1.1 A plastic or other nonmetallic part, other than rubber parts such as seals and O rings, is to bejudged on the basis of:a) Mechanical strength;b) Water absorption;c) Resistance to deterioration due to aging; andd) Vo

23、lumetric and dimensional changes. See 12.1.1.1 12.1.2.2.9.1.2 A rubber part or synthetic elastomer of such type used in a meter assembly is to be judged on thebasis of tensile strength, elongation, and resistance to aging. See 12.2.1.9.2 Metallic materials9.2.1 Meter bodies fabricated from copper al

24、loys shall contain not more than 15 percent zinc.9.2.2 Meter bodies fabricated from cast iron shall at least comply with the requirements of StandardSpecification for Gray Iron Castings, ASTM A48/A48M or Standard Specification for Gray Iron Castingsfor Valves, Flanges, and Pipe Fittings, ASTM A126.9

26、OT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL9.3 Coatings for ferrous bodies9.3.1 Meter bodies fabricated from ferrous materials shall be protected by hot-dip galvanizing inaccordance with Standard Specification for Zinc Coating (Hot-Dip) on Iron and Steel Hardware

27、, ASTMA153/A153M or protected with organic coatings when evaluated to determine compliance with Section 18.10 Strainers10.1 Screen size openings shall not have rectangular dimensions or diameters less than 0.03 nor morethan 0.14 inch.10.2 The surface area of the screen openings shall be not less tha

28、n a ratio of 4 to 1 of the cross-sectionalarea of Schedule 40 steel pipe for the nominal meter size.10.3 The material for the screen is to be corrosion resistant such as brass, bronze, stainless steel, orplastic, so that corrosion does not decrease the size of the screen openings.PERFORMANCE11 Gener

29、al11.1 Representative samples of meters are to be subjected to the tests described in these requirements.Additional representative samples of parts constructed of metallic, nonmetallic material, such as rubberseals, are required for physical and chemical tests.12 Nonmetallic Materials Test12.1 Plast

30、ic or other nonmetallic parts (excluding rubber and synthetic elastomers)12.1.1 Air oven aging of moving parts12.1.1.1 After air-oven aging for 90 days at 100 1C (212 2F):a) There shall be no warping, creeping, cracking, or other evidence of deterioration of a plasticor other like non-metallic compo

31、nent that may impair the intended operation of the meter.b) The izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than 30 percent.c) A meter assembled with aged components shall comply with the requirements in theCalibration Test, Section 16.12.1.1.2 The izod impact strength tests are to be conducte

32、d in the as received and aged conditions inaccordance with Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance ofPlastics, ASTM D256.12.1.1.3 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 12.1.1.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, an air-ov

33、en aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shallbe conducted. 34、M ULexcessive softening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a higher temperature for ashorter period of time shall be permitted. The duration of exposure is to be calculated from the followingequation:D = (92,000)e0.0693tin which:D is the test duration in days; andt is the test

35、temperature in degrees C.12.1.1.4 Plastic or other like non-metallic parts, and sample components to be aged, are to be supportedin a full draft, circulating air oven that has been preheated to 100 1C (212 2F) or the calculatedtemperature in 12.1.1.3. Samples shall be supported so that they do not t

36、ouch one another or the sidesof the oven. The samples are to be aged for the required time period, at full draft, and then allowed tocool in air at 23 2C (73 4F) for at least 4 hours before any test or dimensional check is conducted.Prior to any tests, rubber parts complying with the requirements in

37、 12.2.1 and 12.2.2 are to be installedin the meter, if they are not included in the aging test. As used in this test, the term full draft refers tothe air flow over the samples in the oven with the oven air inlet and outlet full open. The number of airchanges in the oven is to be between 4 and 6 per

38、 minute.12.1.2 Water aging of moving parts12.1.2.1 After immersion in tap water at 87 2C (188 4F) for 90 days:a) There shall be no warping, creeping, cracking, or other signs of deterioration of a plastic orother like non-metallic component, that may impair the intended operation of the meter.b) The

39、 izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than 30 percent.c) A meter assembled with aged components shall comply with the requirements in CalibrationTest, Section 16.12.1.2.2 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 12.1.2.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or dete

40、rioration, a water aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shall bepermitted. 42、 of a plasticor other like non-metallic component that may impair the intended operation of the meter.b) A meter assembled with aged components, shall be operated at its maximum continuousflow for a period of 1 hour without malfunction or deterioration as indicated by a change in thehydraulic fricti

43、on loss value exceeding 1 psi of an as received (unaged) sample at a flowvelocity of 15 ft/s based on Schedule 40 steel pipe for the nominal meter size.12.1.3.2 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 12.1.3.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven

44、aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shallbe conducted. If a material can withstand higher temperature than specified in 12.1.3.1 without excessivesoftening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a higher temperature for a shorter periodof time shall be per

45、mitted. The duration of exposure is to be calculated from the following equation:D = (92,000)e0.0693tin which:D is the test duration in days; andt is the test temperature in degrees C.12.1.3.3 Plastic or other like non-metallic parts, and sample components to be aged, are to be supportedin a full dr
