16、ended for use in theaters, motion picture and television studios,performance stages, areas of assembly occupancies and similar locations in accordance with Articles518, 520, 525 and 530 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Equipment within the scopeof this Outline includes:a) Theater

17、 switchboards with or without dimming modules;b) Dimmer modules for use within theater switchboards; andc) Enclosed dimmers for direct connection to the supply and lighting circuits.d) Enclosed wireway dimmers mounted on rigging (a network of lines and chains used forsupport and manipulation of scen

18、ery and equipment) or to the building structure above oradjacent to the luminaires it supplies.1.2 These requirements do not cover portable power distribution equipment addressed by the Standardfor Portable Power Distribution Equipment, UL 1640.1.3 These requirements do not cover units intended to p

19、rovide only the low-voltage control signals tooperate theater luminaire switching and dimming equipment.1.4 These requirements do not cover luminaire dimming or switching equipment intended for residentialor commercial (building architectural) installation and use addressed by the Standard for Indus

20、trial ControlEquipment, UL 508.2 General2.1 Anticipated users2.1.1 These requirements anticipate three primary use environments for these products:a) Use in theaters, motion picture, television studios and the like by qualified personnel only(e.g. Certified Entertainment Electricians) in areas where

21、 access by the general public isrestricted. Such use anticipates continuous monitoring during use.b) Use by educational institutions where the power needs are limited and the anticipated userexpertise is likely limited only to basic understanding of the fire, electric shock and casualtyrisks involve

These users are under the supervision of those trained in entertainment work.Use is in areas where access by the general public cannot be totally restricted.c) Use in theatrical areas of assembly occupancies by qualified personnel only (e.g. CertifiedEntertainment Electricians) in areas where acc

24、edto be:a) Pollution Degree III conductive pollution or dry, nonconductive pollution that becomesconductive due to condensation that is expected.Exception No. 1: Permanently installed units marked to require a Pollution Degree II environmentin accordance with 11.2.1.1.Exception No. 2: Internal micro

25、-environments created in accordance with means specified ineither the Standard for Insulation Coordination Including Clearances and Creepage Distances forElectrical Equipment, UL 840 or the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.b) Overvoltage Category III All units intended for permanent

26、 connection to the supply. Thisincludes dimmer packs and includes Rolling Racks.c) Overvoltage Category II All portable units except Rolling Racks.2.3 Use of referenced standards2.3.1 This Outline is not intended to contain all requirements applicable to this class of product. It isintended to be us

27、ed in conjunction with other UL standards adding to and amending requirements asneeded. The overall requirements for theater luminaire dimming equipment can be summarized asfollows:a) Parts of units operating at greater than 100 amps use requirements for dead-frontswitchboards specified in the Stand

28、ard for Switchboards, UL 891.b) Parts of units operating at 100 amps or less use requirements for industrial controlequipment specified in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.c) Parts of units intended for portable wiring connections use requirements specified in theStandard for Po

30、rpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.2.5 Units of measurement2.5.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.2.5.2 All applicable alternating-current electrical measurements are in root-mean-s

31、quare (rms) unitsunless otherwise stated.3 Glossary3.1 For the purposes of this Outline, the following definitions apply. These are intended to supplementthose in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508, the Standard for Switchboards, UL 891and Parts of units intended for portable wiri

32、ng connections use requirements specified in the Standard forPortable Power Distribution Equipment, UL 1640.3.2 CAPACITOR, CLASS X Capacitor or RC unit of a type suitable for use in situations where failureof the capacitor or RC unit would not lead to danger of electrical shock but could result in a

33、 risk of fire.Examples would be units connected phase to phase or phase to neutral.Notes:a) X1 capacitors are generally used in circuits of permanently connected appliances. However, if theappliance is provided with a separate surge protective device that limits the impulse voltage to 2.5KV,an X2 ca

34、pacitor is permitted.b) X2 capacitors are generally used in circuits of cord-connected appliances.3.3 CAPACITOR, CLASS Y Capacitor or RC unit of a type suitable for use in situations where failureof the capacitor could lead to danger of electric shock. Examples would be capacitors connected acrossth

35、e primary and secondary circuits where electrical isolation is required to prevent an electric shock orbetween hazardous live parts and accessible parts.Notes:a) Y1 capacitors are used in circuits where the prevention of electric shock is afforded solely by theisolation provided by the capacitor. Tw

36、o Y2 capacitors connected in series is considered to provide thesame level of protection as one Y1 capacitor.b) Y2 capacitors are used where the prevention of electric shock is provided by the combination of thecapacitor and earth ground for circuits operating at voltages 150V and 300V.c) Y4 capacit

37、ors are used where the prevention of electric shock is provided by the combination of thecapacitor and earth ground for circuits operating at voltages 150V.3.4 DIMMER MODULE A field installed unit for use in permanent theater dimming racks or rollingracks. Available in a range of current ratings cor

38、responding to circuit breaker ratings, typically 15, 20, 50and 100 amps. 39、only.c) Constant on Only a circuit breaker with no remote control capability.d) Relay Same as a non-dim, but utilizes a mechanical relay.e) Dummy (Blank) No electrical function. Unit prevents access to internal electrically live partsand may be required for maintenance of proper air-flow of the unit

40、.They are all intended to be installed by qualified personnel. When installed, they complete the electricalenclosure of the permanent or rolling dimmer rack. Units plug-in and may or may not require tools forremoval.3.5 DIMMER PACK An enclosed, multi-channel dimmer. Intended for permanent supply con

41、nectionand also factory configured for field installation of a supply cord. Provided with integral receptacles forload connection or load connection may be through a permanent wiring system. Suitable for single“tabletop” use, wall or truss mounting or in sets mounted in racks.3.6 DIMMER RACK A perma

42、nently installed special use switchboard. Supply connections areintended for permanent wiring systems. Load connection is usually through a permanent wiring systembut may sometimes be through integral receptacles. Usually configured for field installed theaterluminaire dimmer modules. Sometimes cons

43、tructed of sets of Dimmer Packs wired to internal bussing.May be provided with a patch panel to reconfigure the output receptacle connections to the dimmermodules.3.7 ROLLING DIMMER RACK (ROLLING RACK) A large special use portable switchboard. Amodified version of the permanent dimmer rack where the

44、 supply is intended for single conductorfeeders employing single pole connectors and receptacles are provided for load connection. May beprovided with a patch panel to reconfigure the output receptacle connections to the dimmer modules.3.8 SINGLE CHANNEL DIMMER Single channel dimmers provided with r

45、eceptacles or drop cordsfor load connection. Usually provided with either short lengths of supply cord or inlets for supplyconnection. May be configured for permanent supply connection similar to Dimmer Packs.3.9 WIREWAY DIMMER A wireway/dimmer mounted on rigging (a network of lines and chains usedf

46、or support and manipulation of scenery and equipment) or to the building structure above or adjacentto the luminaires it supplies. Receptacles or drop cords are provided for the connection of spotlights,floodlights, and portable striplights that are capable of being mounted to or suspended from the

48、nts for that component.4.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline.4.1.3 A component sh

49、all be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.4.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.4.1.5 Components shall be suitable for the anticipated use environment as specified in 2.2.4.1.6 Components not anticipated by the requirements of this
