7、TION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements are supplementary to other applicable requirements in the Standard for Safetyfor Vacuum Cleaners, Blower Cleaners, and Household Floor Finishing Machines, UL 1017.1.2 These requirements apply to commercial or industrial portabl

8、e WET-TYPE DUST COLLECTORS andcommercial or industrial portable WET-TYPE VACUUM CLEANERS for the collection of combustiblemetal dust in the production, processing, finishing, handling, recycling, storage and use, includingoperations, such as grinding, sanding, cutting, machining and additive manufac

9、turing, of metals and alloysin a form capable of combustion or explosion as defined by NFPA 484.1.3 These requirements apply to products for use in ordinary (unclassified) locations. Equipment intendedfor use in hazardous locations, as defined in the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, are cover

10、ed byUL 1203.1.4 Products with current-carrying hoses and motorized nozzles for collection of combustible metal dustare not covered by these requirements.1.5 These requirements apply only to a specific type of appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner or dustcollector, if the requirement is so identified

16、ncy of the machine consisting of thepercentage of the average mass concentration of the test aerosol in the exhaust air to the average massconcentration of the test aerosol introduced into the intake air.4.3 ELECTROSTATICALLY DISSIPATIVE MATERIAL A material possessing the ability to allow theflow of

17、 an electric charge having a surface resistivity of less than 1 G (per square) or complying with theElectrostatic Discharge Test, Section 14.4.4 WET-TYPE DUST COLLECTOR A machine designed for connection to a dust-generating machinethat utilizes a liquid reservoir to remove the dust from the intake a

18、ir by being directed through or towardsthe liquid in the reservoir. See Annex A of NFPA 484 for examples of typical wet-type collectorconstructions.4.5 WET-TYPE VACUUM CLEANER A machine for collecting dust from floors and other surfaces thatis designed to remove dust from the intake air by being dir

19、ected through or towards the liquid in thereservoir. This is not the same as a “wet pick-up vacuum cleaner” as referenced in UL 1017.CONSTRUCTION5 General5.1 The appliance shall comply with the requirements for commercial vacuum cleaners in UL 1017 inaddition to these requirements.DECEMBER 09, 2016

20、UL 4040 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6 Components6.1 Electrical components shall not be located in the dust-laden air path (dirty air), unless they complywith requirements for Class II, Division 1 locations for Group E dust

21、 in UL 1203 or the requirements forintrinsically safe components in UL 913.6.2 Hoses shall be no longer than 7.6 m (25 feet) in length and the hose materials shall comply with 9.2.7 Mechanical Assembly7.1 Dust-laden air (dirty air) shall not pass through the fan or blower or other parts moving at hi

22、gh speed.8 Corrosion Protection8.1 The appliance shall be constructed of materials, such as stainless steel, that are compatible with thecombustible metal dust intended to be collected. In particular, metal parts in the dust-laden air path shallbe protected against corrosion (oxidation), to prevent

23、thermite reactions due to galvanic incompatibilitybetween combustible metal dust and metal oxides. See 17.2.9 Grounding and Electrostatic Bonding9.1 The appliance shall have provision for grounding.9.2 Enclosures, accessible metal parts and parts in contact with the combustible metal dust, including

24、hinges, brackets, hoses and attachments, shall be constructed of metal or, if of nonmetallic material shall:a) Have a surface area of less than 100 cm2(15.5 inch2), orb) Be constructed of ELECTROSTATICALLY DISSIPATIVE MATERIAL as determined by thematerial specification, measured in accordance with t

25、he Resistivity of Electrostatic DissipativeMaterials Test, Section 13 or the Electrostatic Discharge Test, Section 14.9.3 All metal parts as specified in 9.2 shall be reliably bonded to the means for grounding to reduce therisk of electrostatic discharge as determined by the Ground Continuity Test,

26、Section 15, unless the part:a) Is not required to be grounded per 4.16.3 of UL 1017, andb) Complies with the Electrostatic Discharge Test, Section 14.9.4 All parts of ELECTROSTATICALLY DISSIPATIVE MATERIAL as specified in 9.2 shall be connectedto grounded metal parts to reduce the risk of electrosta

28、n. The maximum operating level shall also be identified to notify the userwhen to empty the sludge.10.2 Operation of the appliance shall be prevented when the water level is below the minimum fill level.An electromechanical water level control shall be suitable for 100,000 cycles. An electronic wate

29、r levelcontrol shall be considered a safety critical function with a minimum Performance Level (PL) of C inaccordance with Clause 4.11.4.3 of UL 1017.10.3 A window for viewing into the liquid reservoir or other accessible non-metallic part forming part ofthe liquid reservoir shall withstand the Ball

30、 Impact Test of UL 1017, but with a force of 2.8 J (2 ft-lb),without breaking or cracking.11 Hydrogen Production11.1 The water reservoir shall be provided with a vent at the top of the dust collection chamber to preventaccumulation of hydrogen gas generated from combustible metal dust contacting the

31、 water. The vent shallbe at least 25.4 mm (1 inch) in diameter and it shall open automatically when the appliance is notoperating.11.2 All compartments above the water reservoir shall be provided with venting at the top of thecompartment to prevent the accumulation of hydrogen gas when the unit is n

32、ot in operation. The total ventarea shall be at least 506 mm2(0.78 inch2).11.3 Any electrical compartment above the water reservoir shall be provided with means to preventhydrogen gas from entering the compartment.TESTS12 Temperature Test12.1 During the Temperature Test in Clause 5.8 of UL 1017, the

34、13 Resistivity Test for Electrostatically Dissipative Materials13.1 To determine if a non-metallic part is electrostatically dissipative, the surface resistivity of thematerial measured as specified in 13.2 and 13.3 shall be less than 1 G at 23C (73F) and 50 percentrelative humidity.13.2 A non-metal

35、lic surface shall have a surface resistivity specified in 13.1 as defined by the materialspecifications or as determined by the test in 13.3.13.3 The resistance is to be tested on the enclosure or on parts of the enclosure. Two parallel electrodes1 mm (0.04 inch) in width, 100 mm (4 inches) in lengt

36、h, 10 mm (0.4 inch) apart are to be centered on a150 mm by 60 mm (6 by 2.4 inch) sample. The sample is to be cleaned with distilled water, then withisopropyl alcohol, then once more with distilled water before being dried. Untouched by bare hands, it isto be conditioned for 24 hours at 23C (73F) and

37、 50 percent relative humidity. The test is to be carriedout under the same conditions. A voltage of 500 10 Vdc is to be applied for one minute. The resistanceis the quotient of the voltage applied at the electrodes to the total current flowing between them when thevoltage has been applied for one mi

38、nute.14 Electrostatic Discharge Test14.1 No sparks shall be observed when a nonmetallic external part with an area greater than 100 cm2(15.5 inch2) or a metal part that is not connected to the means for grounding is subjected to the testspecified in 14.2 14.4.14.2 Three samples of the part are to be

39、 conditioned for at least 48 hours at a relative humidity of 25 10percent.14.3 Immediately after removal from the low-humidity chamber, the samples are to be supported bymeans of insulators in a room having a relative humidity not more than 35 percent and having all sourcesof light, other than elect

40、rical sparks, eliminated. An electrostatic charge is to be sprayed onnon-conductive parts of the product using a Van de Graaf generator limited to 5000 volts.14.4 A 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) diameter grounded metal sphere is to be brought into gradual contact with thenon-conductive area of the sample.DECEMB

42、equired to be bonded in accordance with 9.3shall not exceed 0.1 ohm.15.2 The resistance is to be determined by any convenient method except when results that do notcomply with the requirement are recorded. Then either a direct- or alternating-current of 15 amperes is tobe passed from the grounding t

43、erminal to each dead metal part required to be bonded in accordance with15.1, and the resulting drop in potential is to be measured between these two points. The resistance inohms is to be determined by dividing the drop in potential in volts by the current in amperes passingbetween the two points.1

44、6 Exhaust Air Test16.1 The appliance shall be evaluated for the filtration efficiency with respect to the concentration of dustin the exhaust air being returned the work area as determined by 16.2.16.2 The appliance shall be constructed to provide a DEGREE OF PENETRATION of less than 1percent. Compl

45、iance is checked by conducting the Assembled Machine Test specified in Annex AA of IEC60335-2-69. The appliance is to be filled to the minimum fill line or the minimum fill level that allowsoperation, and operated for one hour and the DEGREE OF PENETRATION is to be averaged over theduration of the t

46、est with the first readings being taken at 5 minutes of operationMARKINGS17 General17.1 The appliance shall be provided with a plainly marked minimum fill line and the hydrogen vent shallbe identified on the water reservoir. The maximum operating level shall also be identified to notify the userwhen

47、 to empty the sludge.17.2 The following statement or the equivalent shall be marked on the appliance nameplate: “For Use inOrdinary (Nonhazardous) Locations.”17.3 The appliance shall be marked with the following or the equivalentDANGER Collection of Combustible Metals Presents a Risk of Fire and Exp
