The test requirements contained in thisoutline may be performed to evaluate the compatibility of an alternative refri

、gerant and/or oil with electricalinsulating materials and systems used within the compressor-motor enclosure.2 General2.1 Undated references2.1.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shallbe interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that

、code or standard.2.2 Units of measurement2.2.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.PERFORMANCE3 General3.1 Film or film and fiber coated magnet wire, motor ground insulation and other motor insulation systemparts, suc

Motor-compressors, motorettes or coilettes along with other material to represent the sy

The use of other test methods judged equivalent by the certificationorganization that contain specific pass/fail criteria may also be considered.4 Samples4.1 Two twisted pairs of film or film and fiber coated magnet wire made in accordance with Standard TestMet

、hod for Thermal Endurance of Film-Insulated Round Magnet Wire, ASTM D2307, or two straightlengths of fibrous-covered magnet wire, whichever is applicable, are to be tested.Exception: At the manufacturers option, six samples may be tested.4.2 If twisted pairs of film or film and fiber coated magnet w

、ire are not used, two motorettes or coilettesare to be tested. Motorettes are to be prepared as described in IEEE 117, Standard Test Procedure forEvaluation of Systems of Insulating Materials for Random Wound AC Electric Machinery. Form woundmotorettes constructed to IEEE 117 shall be used for evalu

、ating insulation systems rated over 600 V.Coilettes are to include a typical slot assembly fabricated from two metal plates bolted together. The slotsection of the motorette or coilette shall be fabricated from steel sheets, such as AISI 1010 cold-rolledsteel or other motor-steel sheets. The assembl

、ed slot portion shall contain two coils approximately 15 to20 turns each, insulated from ground by slot cells, insulated from each other by phase insulation if usedin the motor application, and held in place with slot wedges. Form wound motorettes shall use rectangularwire with 5 turns per coil. Eac

、h coil shall be wound with two parallel wires so that turn-to-turn tests maybe made. Film or film and fiber coated magnet wire, representative of motor construction, No. 18 AWG(0.82 mm2), is to be used for coil construction. Minor modifications of the motorette or coilette assembliescan be made to s

、imulate intended uses.OCTOBER 18, 2001 SUBJECT 984A 5Exception: At the manufacturers option, six samples may be tested.4.3 When twisted pair samples are used, other parts of the insulating system of an amount approximatelyproportional to their use in the system shall also be tested. The suggested sa

、mple size for slot linermaterials is 50 by 50 mm (2 by 2 inches).4.4 As an initial electrical check, prior to the refrigerant and oil exposure, the motorettes and coilettesshall withstand a 60 Hz ac potential of 2000 V applied for 1 minute between coils and between coils anddead metal parts; and a 6

、0 Hz ac potential of 500 V applied for 1 minute between the parallel wiresdescribed in 4.2 to simulate the turn-to-turn condition or between the twisted pairs described in 4.1.5 Test Environment5.1 The test refrigerant to be used as a reference is monochlorodifluoromethane (R-22) along with thealter

、native refrigerants specified for the motor-compressor. If R-11 is the refrigerant replaced, then R-11can be used as the reference.5.2 The test samples (i.e., film or film and fiber coated magnet wire and motor ground insulation ormotorettes, etc. as chosen) are to be placed in test vessel(s), toget

、her with other system insulatingmaterials as may be used within the compressor-motor enclosure. The test samples are to be arrangedso that they will be partially immersed in the refrigerant-oil-mixture. The extent of immersion is to be suchthat turn-to-turn (i.e., parts will be exposed to both the l

、iquid refrigerant and the vapor refrigerant as wellas liquid oil) layer to layer, and turn-to-ground insulating materials are in contact with the boundary layer.Installation of the samples and introduction of oil and refrigerant in the test vessels are to be accomplishedas specified in (a) to (d) be

、low. Other parts of the insulating system of an amount approximatelyproportional to their use in the system shall also be included.a) The test vessels shall be sealed and evacuated to 100 m of mercury or less for at least 1hour with the contents of the vessel at 149C (300F). Alternately, the samples

、 may bedehydrated and stored in a moisture-free environment until introduction into the test vessel.b) Oil that represents intended use, is to be added into the test vessel to a level that results inpartial immersion of the samples as indicated above.c) The test vessels are to be sealed and evacuate

、d at 100 m of mercury or less for at least 1hour with the contents of the vessel at 70C (158F).d) The test vessels are then to be charged with refrigerant vapor in such a manner that air isnot introduced into the test vessel (i.e., less than 0.1 percent by volume air).CAUTION It is suggested that th

、e test vessels shall be provided with a pressure limiting device andpressure relief means to limit pressure buildup to less than the rated pressure of the vessel. Other typesof safety controls or other methods may be used if they serve the purpose of avoiding the risk of injuryassociated with ruptur

、ecified in 5.1.This reference set is to consist of a combination of materials already evaluated according to therequirements in UL 984/CSA No. 140.2-M91 and known to have an acceptable field-service history inhermetic motor-compressor systems.6.2 The samples are to be exposed to the refrigerant and

、oil mixtures for one of the time periods andtemperature as specified in Table 6.1. Pressure shall be between 1.03 and 2.42 MPa (150 and 350 psig)during the exposure.Exception: At the manufacturers option, a cool down period may be employed during this exposure. Thetotal number of hours selected is t

、o be divided into five equal heat exposure periods, each followed by a48 hour (minimum) cool-down period.CAUTION MIXING OF SOME CHEMICALS AND/OR LUBRICANTS FOLLOWED BY EXPOSURE TOHIGH TEMPERATURES COULD PRODUCE TOXIC FUMES AND/OR MATERIALS. EXTREME CAREMUST BE TAKEN WHEN CONDUCTING THIS TEST.Table 6

For slot liner materials comparative dielectric voltage withstand tests shall be conducted inaccordance with the test metho

The results of the dielectric voltage-withstand testconducted on the slot liners and twisted pair magnet wire samples and between parallel wires ofmotorettes or coilettes shall be at least 80% of the reference. If six samples are tested, acceptance canbe based on the performance of five samples with the highest dielectric voltage retention values.OCTOBER 18, 2001SUBJECT 984A8
