21、thasbeenusedforover150yearsinindustrieshavingpotentiallyexplosiveatmospheres andagreatdealofexperiencehasbeengainedintheapplicationofprotectivemeasurestoreducetheriskofignition toanacceptablysafelevel.WiththeintroductionoftheATEXDirective94/9/ECandtheinclusionofnonelectrical equipmentinitsscope,itbe

22、camenecessarytoproduceignitionprotectionconceptstandardswhichclearlydefined theseprotectivemeasuresandincorporatedtheextensiveanddiverseexperiencegainedovertheyears. Oneofthemethodsofapplyingignitionprotection,hadbeentoselecttypesofequipmentnotcontaininganignition sourceinnormalserviceandthenapplygo

23、odengineeringprinciples,sothatriskofmechanicalfailureslikelytocreate incendivetemperaturesorsparks,wasreducedtoaverylowlevel.Suchprotectivemeasuresarereferredtointhis standardasignitionprotectionbyConstructionalSafety,ortypeofprotectionc. Thepurposeofthisstandard,isthereforetospecifytherequirementsf

24、orequipment,protectedbythetypeof protectioncwhichmeetstheessentialsafetyandhealthrequirementsdescribedinDirective94/9/EC. 1Scope 1.1 ThisEuropeanstandardspecifiestherequirementsforthedesignandconstructionofnonelectricalequipment, intendedforuseinpotentiallyexplosiveatmospheres,protectedbythetypeofpr

37、lishedbythemanufacturerthroughouttheirforeseeablelifetimeandbesufficientlyfirmanddurable towithstandthemechanicalandthermalstressestowhichtheywillbesubjected. 4.3Ingress Protection 4.3.1General Thedegreeofingressprotection(IP)providedbytheouterenclosuresofequipmentdependsuponitsintended dutyandthety

38、peofenvironmentitisdesignedtobeusedin.Anappropriaterating,accordingtoIPcategory1,as specifiedin13.4ofEN60529:1991,shallbedeterminedaspartoftheignitionhazardassessment(see4.1)and shallbeabletopreventforeignobjectsorwaterenteringtheequipmentwhichcould: i) reducetheignitionleveltoalowervalue,byforexamp

39、le,allowingcombustibledust,withalower ignitiontemperaturethanthepotentiallyexplosiveatmosphere,toformalayeronhotinternal componentsorpartsoftheequipment;and/or ii) makecontactwithmovingparts,resultinginthecreationofapotentialignitionsource,unsafe malfunctionorfire. Thefollowingsubclauses,4.3.3to4.3.

40、5below,specifytheminimumdegreeofingressprotection(IP)forenclosures usedinthecircumstancesdescribed. 4.3.2 Inthecaseofequipmentintendedforuseingas/vapouratmospheres,whereentryofforeignobjectscan causeignition,butentryofdustisharmless,entryoffallingobjectsshallbeprevented. 4.3.3 Inthecaseofequipmentin

41、tendedforuseingas/vapouratmospheres,wheretheentryofdustsorliquids couldcausemalfunctionleadingtoanignitionsource,theenclosureshallbeatleastIP54. 4.3.4 Inthecaseofequipmentintendedforuseinpotentiallyexplosivedustatmospheres,whereingressofdust canresultinanignitionsourceorfire,theenclosureshallbeatlea

42、stIP6X. 4.3.5 Inthecaseofequipmentintendedforuseinpotentiallyexplosivedustatmospheres,whereingressofdust andforeignobjectsarenotlikelytocauseanignition,noenclosureisnecessary. NOTE Anenclosurecanberequiredforothersafetyreasons,e.g.IP2Xtopreventpartsofthebodycomingintocontact withrotatingparts. 4.4 S

43、ealsformovingparts 4.4.1 Unlubricatedgaskets,seals,sleeves,bellowsanddiaphragms Unlubricatedgaskets,seals,sleeves,bellowsanddiaphragmswhicharesubjecttorubbingcontactinnormal operationorduringforeseeablemalfunction,shallnotcontainlightmetals.Sleevesmadeofelastomericmaterial, PTFEorsimilarmaterial,gra

Nonmetallicmaterialsshallberesistanttodistortionanddegradationwithoutreducingtheeffectivenessofexplosion protection(seeEN134631). 4.4.2 Stuffingboxseals Stuffingboxsealsshallonlybeusedifatemperatureriseabovethemaximumsurfacetemperaturecanbeexcluded. NOTE Adevicetomonitortemperaturesandswitchoffequipmentshouldbe
