27、ing disease (CWD), also known as “zombie deer disease”, was first observed in deer populations during the 1960s, and now in some areas, the disease has infected 25 percent of the local deer populationand those figures are as 79 percent in highly-infected areas, according to the Centers for Disease C

31、ch Institute recently discovered that the disease can be spread to monkeys whove eaten infected deer meat. The primates chosen for the study were selected for their genetic similarity to humans. “The assumption was for the longest time that chronic wasting disease was not a threat to human health, ”
